The Real Conversations of Grindr (warning: contains explicit content)

Real-life exchanges from mobile dating app Grindr are at the centre of a powerful new awareness campaign spotlighting HIV stigma and its effects on the LGBTI+ community.
An initiative of the HIV Foundation Queensland (HIVFQ) in partnership with Queensland Positive People (QPP), the Real Conversations of Grindr campaign started as a filmed social experiment at Queensland’s annual queer arts and culture festival at Brisbane Powerhouse in February, shedding light on the online phenomenon of online dating apps.
The Real Conversations of Grindr campaign is part of HIV Foundation Queensland’s overarching efforts to address HIV stigma.

What right do they have not to want to be exposed to the enriching cultural phenomenon of HIV?

According to the U.S. Center for Disease Control: "Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with mena made up an estimated 2% of the population but 55% of people living with HIV in the United States in 2013. Gay and bisexual men accounted for 83% (29,418) of the estimated new HIV diagnoses among all males aged 13 and older and 67% of the total estimated new diagnoses in the United States." Also, PrEP (Truvada) costs $1300 a month without insurance. I as John Q. Taxpayer don't want to pay that in order to subsidize your irresponsible behavior.

I can understand that there are people who aren't comfortable sleeping with someone who is HIV positive, but that's no reason to be nasty to anybody. You can politely decline or just say nothing. Going on a tactless tirade is disgusting behavior. But gays attack gays for other things too such as too old, too young, too fat, too thin, not hot enough, and so on. This is more of an issue about teaching common courtesy, compassion, and etiquette to gays in general.

Grindr could help by talking about this issue with some of the pop-up messages they send when you log on. Grindr had some of the most hateful people. and I thought that community was accepting of everyone.

Where did you get gays were accepting of everyone? That's never ever been the case. It is most definitely no longer the case today. People like to push this whole 'gay community' thing, but there is no community with gays. The only thing that gays have in common is they are attracted to the same gender. That's it. Nothing more.

To all the people asking why they are trying to force you to fuck hiv positive men. They are not, this video is about the stigma that they have. If you don’t feel comfortable sleeping with someone hiv positive just say so politely. It’s not that hard, and I can’t believe how far this message flew over so many heads

Wow! That is very sad...What makes people think it is alright to say that to someone? I am not a fan at all when people say "clean." It is basically saying people with HIV are dirty. I understand that there is a fear of exposure or fear of being infected, but that doesn't give people the right to treat those with HIV as inferior...

I'm sorry but there is nothing clean about having HIV in your body. That virus literally destroys your body from the inside-out in this most horrific painful way possible if you don't take the meds. To think that a poz person is clean is very naive.

The problem is human nature itself. It naturally attacks the most vulnerable or the perceived most vulnerable. There needs to be more education indeed but education is not enough to dissolve human nature cruelty. There needs to be a change in morality but that's extremely difficult. The bullies are always put on a pedestal, no matter what, that's why they become bullies in the first place. That's exactly what has to change.

TayTay you realise very few people have AIDS in countries with even half decent medicine anymore right? And HIV is *not* AIDS. HIV is a disease, AIDS is a term for late stage illness when someone's CD4 numbers go below 200.

This is so true and heartbreaking that it's from within our own community. It's up to all of us to end the Stigma and educate ourselves - people also really need to stop using the term 'clean' as it implies HIV is dirty 😔

... this is about HIV, not about other STIs. And honestly, HIV itself, if you have a decent health care, is literally just a pill a day and seeing your doctor every now and then. The stigma however, well, you've seen the video.

It was a bit hard to follow, switching between so many people so quickly. If you had continued the text of what they were reading, I think it would've been easier to follow. But, as for what's being said, is it really so shocking? Sure, lack of information and misinformation on HIV effects people's perception, both gay and straight. But other gay people have more to lose and more to fear from HIV positive gay guys than straight people do, if the misinformation they have were actually true.
