    I love the idea of an accountant bounty hunter that can suck all the cool factor out of the romanticised profession

    Thats not even the real Boba Fett. Thats Don Bies who was in the costume for the special edition reshoots of ROTJ. That photo wasn't the original guy in costume. So thats not even "Real". Jeremy Bulloch was the original actor in the costume, and he played a few other background characters you can spot.

    I also always found it weird that boba fett had such a cult following. He's some random faceless henchman who never does anything meaningful and then dies pathetically.

    It was kinda just his his costume. The documentary on Disney+ highlights this, by the fact his first ever appearance was a little parade with Vader, but he got way more people wanting autographs and such, despite never having appeared yet while Vader had

    I think it's the fact he's a cool looking mysterious baddass. It's the same deal with Darth Maul before the star wars universe got over saturated with his appearance later on. Though Darth Maul was definitely more of a badass in the Phantom menace than Boba Fett was in the original trilogy.

    I'm not sure, because the cult following could have been there from day one. But when I was growing up, we had tons of star wars comics coming out and bounty hunters were featured in lots of them. Despite Kathleen Kennedy's statements, there are in facts thousands of star wars sources outside of just the movies

    I thought so too! I feel like I'm having a Mandela effect moment, I can't find the other conversation anywhere, which is really similar to this one but includes a bit about how they can't go for a ride in Slave One because then it wouldn't be tax deductible...

    It's actually a bit misleading to say the 'real guy', since there were a few. I watched the Disney mini-doc on the conception of the character, pretty interesting. You had the first guy to wear the suit, before Boba even appeared in a movie. Then the guy in Empire, who was probs the most 'indentifiable' OG Boba. Lovely guy, all told, did the cons and stuff for years, and passed not long ago. But you also had some stunt men stand in as Boba for RotJ.

  • @MellyMelon1331

    Yeah the guy in the photo here is Don Bies, who was an ILM modelmaker, who they had wear the costume when shooting addition footage for one of the Special Edition versions of Return of The Jedi (pretty sure was the 1986 version, but probs wrong on that. Just know it was one of the Special Editions, but forget which year). So this guy only wore the costume for a scene or two

    Okay okay but... who was the MAIN actor? Not the stunt doubles, not the one they used for extended editions, but substantially, who was it that had the most prominent screen time? All the others are posers. TEMEURA MORRISON IS A SHAM!! WE KNOW THE REAL BOBA NOW

  • @Blisterdude123

    @Blisterdude123

    Jeremy Bulloch 'performed' in Empire Strikes Back, and probs was regarded as 'the' Boba, for the longest time. Also that's just silly. Temuera Morrison is great. It's not an either/or, it's so easily a 'both' situation.

  • @MellyMelon1331

    @MellyMelon1331

    @@Cotif11 That'd be Jeremy Bulloch who was in the costume the majority of the time. And then it was Jason Wingreen who performed the original voice for the role, before later being dubbed over by Temuera Morrison for the special editions. The guy in the photo Tom and Ben pulled up wore the costume only once for one singular scene when reshooting, cause they needed someone who had the right body shape to wear the costume and match the other performers who had worn it

    He's talking about Fett's cult following before shows like the Mandalorian were even conceived. He's always had one, even before the expanded universe stuff which Disney has recently disavowed, and it's literally just because he looks kind of cool. It's a bit weird, but hey, people like what they like I guess.

    The Mandalorian is all over the place in quality, and it seems that the Boba Fett show is gonna be similar in that regards since it's also doing the multiple directors thing. Like there's some great episodes, but it's definitely balanced by garbage.

    Yeah, one of the weakest episodes IMO of The Mandalorian was directed by the same guy (Robert Rodriguez) who directed the first episode of Book of Boba Fett. I remember watching it and saying the fight scenes looked like something out of a high school film project, real strong "we didn't rehearse this" vibes. You can even spot an error in the first episode with the gamorrean guards, they disappear after a camera angle change and then reappear later when needed.

    Most of Boba Fett's "cool factor" comes from being a clone of Jango (who managed to outplay Jedi more than once), and from his Extended Universe appearances. So to most people...... it's mostly just because of Jango. Though the Book of Boba Fett *does* do some work to rectify this.

  • @Blisterdude123

    Uh...what? Boba's 'cool factor' goes back a lot further than Jango Fett lolol

    What are you talking about? Boba has always been a fan favorite since the original films. You can find evidence of this everywhere. He was beloved way before Jango was even a thing. Even before his first appearance, Lucas had a mini parade with the Vader and Boba costumes, and more people wanted autographs from Boba, despite never having even appeared in the Holiday Special, never mind the movies. He's always had a fanbase

  • @vegladex

    I want to make it clear that I know Boba was well-beloved long before Jango existed, but Tom and Ben make a good point that Boba *himself* conspicuously failed to do anything cool in the mainline films. I've identified some things that make him cool *now*, and the EU has existed long before Jango has too, but I've never seen anything to sugest why people liked him at first (Other than the cool armour I guess, but that's not exactly a good reason).

  • @Blisterdude123

    @Blisterdude123

    @@vegladex It's one of those nebulous 'right time, right place' things. Your opinion on it is fine, but it's not really 'the' explanation. Why Boba is cool is just...there is no mathematical answer. He just was. He popped up, looked good, had mystique. He had that indefinable cool factor. Good reasons, bad reasons, it's just not relevant. If you can't make sense of it, that's okay. You don't need to. For some people, that's just how it is. You think Boba is cool, or you don't. It's the cool factor. So much so, that for decades 'before' Jango, Boba featured in Star Wars novels, comics, games, and other media 'because' people grew up from kids, into adults, wanting to explore 'why' they thought he was cool.

  • @vegladex

    @vegladex

    @@Blisterdude123 You're right, really, Tom and Ben asking for "reasons" just doesn't make sense for this kind of thing.
