    Always really hated the retcon of the lone, unnamed guardsman. The whole point of the story is that even the smallest, weakest man in the Imperium can make a difference by holding the line and never giving up, and it brings up a question of whether it actually happened or whether the Imperial Guard made it up as propaganda. Turning him into an immortal buddy of the Emperor entirely ruins the point and controversy of the story.

    Legitimately I feel that all warhammer and 40k lore gets worse every year.

    yeah, they ruined him :/ the unnamed guards man, sometimes refereed to as Ollanius Pius, was the prime example or humanity, why the Emperor kept fighting for humanity even though he felt like he was beaten and defeated. Ollanius Pius was the perfect symbol for Imperial Guard regiments, the average Joe stepping up for something greater than himself, sacrificing himself for the future of mankind. Everyone could be an Ollanius Pius. Now he is just a stupid never die, the most boring type of character. Warhammer lore can only be good and fun if you ignore the bad and dumb parts, and that's like 80% these days.

    @@sweatilaa5325 Its kinda funny how I jumped from being a Stars War lore nerd to Warhammer lore nerd because I felt Star Wars lore wasn't fun anymore because of how much bad and dumb parts they added and now it feels like Warhammer lore is undergoing the same thing

    @@TheKsalad Technically now everything is the Primarch's mum's fault, since she decided last minute that instead of letting the Emperor use their children for war, the best thing to do was to throw them into random warp portals as babies.

    Theseus and Odysseus are named. Jason and the Argo are the actual myth being referenced.

  • @khaldrakon
    @khaldrakon2 жыл бұрын

    Theseus was the one in the labyrinth with the Minotaur. Odysseus was the one in the Odyssey, that's why it's called the Odyssey.

    If perpetuals were used far more carefully and restrictively they might have been interesting, but most of their stuff is just "Oh yeah this dude was in that myth or that conspiracy theory"

  • @purebloodedgriffin

    @purebloodedgriffin

    It's also an issue that Perpetuals used to actually do shit in the current plot, they were a whole conspiracy thing and their immortality was kinda part of the whole 10k year long plot, not a matter of "Here's Jeff, he was from ancient Egypt"

    Off the top of my head, I remember the Welsh tradition of Mari Lwyd, as well as the "Gelert the faithful dog" story. Some folkstories that I know are in folk songs, like: - The Cockerham Devil (where the devil lands on a roof in a village and a teacher has to outwit him with 3 tasks.) - The Dreadful Ghost (aka Flame of Fire, where a man wrongs a lady, so she dies and haunts him and chases him to the ends of the earth. She commands a ghost ship and tracks him down. Then she forces him down into the ship, and then sinks it in a blaze of fire.) - King Henry (song where a king has to please a horrible Beowulf-like monster, and in the end it turns into a beautiful maid and marries him) - Reynardine (where a fox man lives in the mountains of England and woos passing ladies) - The Golden Vanity - Long Lankin

    Oh and the "Hand of Glory," Which is an English legend, where you first pickle the hand of a dead criminal, and then make candles out each of his fingers, using his hair as the wick. Then, if you light it and hold this candle-hand up and break into a house, all the residents will instantly fall asleep, and you can rob the place blind.
