I can't put into words how much I love Tom and Ben's Star Trek chats. Getting updates on Tom's progress through TNG and him slowly becoming a Trekkie really makes my day.

Oh no, I can't believe Tom has become a nerd. I don't know if I can continue watching him now.

Personally, as a major devotee to his youtube channel, this is a terribly sad moment. How am I supposed to enjoy the next 60 videos of Creeper World 4 or the next hour-long Superchill of him talking about dice when I know he might mention Star Trek? This has ruined Tom for me.

I know nothing about Star Trek. I assume the alien dudes are super smart, that’s how they know it’s a 2% chance he’d say no - surely they could just figure out what they have to do to avoid refusal if they are smart enough to calculate human decision making lol

they aren’t just super smart. They specifically think in Binary, they are really good with. computers because there brains are functionally computers.

@@hurgleflurp6089 As a software dev: oh no, imagine the compatibility issues between some random alien species and a ship computer. Using binary doesn't help in the slightest, I'm more concerned about the APIs for data transfer, instruction sets/architecture, representation of data, etc

@@TomDufall thats a major plot point in deep space 9. The show is about an alien space station that the federation take over. Cheif O’Brien has to repair the alien space stations computer with federation computer parts so the station is constantly breaking.

This is the episode where Riker throws a tantrum on the bridge, tells Picard to shut up, and insults Fake Data. Good times.

Tom: You know the Episode with the Binars Boba: Oh yeah the Jungle Episode.

It was a kid in the episode he is referring to, but they go on the binars tangent because minuet appears in the episode and her origin was the binars episode
