The Re-birth of Souls - The Unknown Jiu-Jitsu champion factory in the middle of America.
This next story is one that is close to us here at Shoyoroll. We take you to Mt. Vernon, Illinois... East of St. Louis, to Pedigo Submission Fighting aka Daisy Fresh , run by head instructor/ owner Heath Pedigo. A man who’s heart and dedication to train champions on and off the mat is his life’s dedication. Under any condition, no matter the condition, the guys and gals at PSF are putting in the hours and training that forces them to realize their full potential in this thing called Jiu Jitsu. “All you have to do is walk through the door” as Heath says welcoming anyone serious about winning. We hope you enjoy this as much as we enjoyed working with these amazing Jiu Jitsu humans.

I would just like to say this is an amazing gym. I train here. Nobody has ever EVER had staph or ringworm. We get to pick our goals, heath, even tho it may look rough, shows us how we can do it. He helps us. We are all dedicated to make our goals, so we work hard to accomplish them. For all the people asking how we get shoyoroll gis, we are sponsored by them. And as much as some people may like to think, jiu jitsu isn't ALL technique. If you weigh 120 and you have a 300 pound guy on you, your gonna have to have a bit of strength to shrimp. And to all the people who say we don't take care of our bodies, we do. We stretch every night, before and after practice. We have people who have been training for years and are in their 40s to 60s and they are pumping out gold ibjjf medals like nobody else. We take precautions on everything. Like I said, amazing gym, the doors are open to you if you would like to train. 😊

Technique is essential, you can train as hard as you want but will only get so far if you don’t have a coach that’s been with the best and beat the best and that’s developing you into an adult that has respect, honor, hygiene, class, strength, durability, stamina, technique, and brains. It’s more than just rolling hard and looking hard. It’s been my experience that those people break bones and get injuries the most therefor can’t train as much as a result. Train smart. Looks like any Gracie/Machado school did 20+ years ago, accept, there are more people there. I did classes outside, on a cement driveway, still do allot of training without mats. 2 hours of Cardio before the JJ training even started was common. No matter how strong you are, when you are completely gassed out, only technique will remain. The real lessons were: You will get gassed out. You might be sick or injured in the fight. Self defense was the deal back then, not winning BJJ competitions or even subbing other BJJ people. Winning fights was the goal. Those lessons have been lost in most BJJ schools today. Gentle art my ass, GJJ was purely combative.

This might be a shocker but not everyone trains with the same goals in mind. While I mostly train as a way to "meditate" there's nothing wrong with others who train to win a medal in a competition. I myself come from a self defense style of jiujitsu however there's nothing wrong with sport jiujitsu, not sure why people feel they have to jump down others throat for not training for the same purpose they train for, you'd think after training for a few years a person's ego would be in check enough to not put down brothers of the same craft.

@@DmitriyNotYourDad It's okay, bro, we all know ego has nothing to do with winning medals and getting paid to do sport BJJ. No, ego never gets involved in anything martial arts related. All I did was contrast how BJJ started and how it is today. Sorry you took it personally, it's not all about you, bro, or me, or any thing, it is all vanity and striving after wind.
