The Ravens-Broncos 2013 double overtime playoff thriller needs a deep rewind

Спорт

Whether rightfully deserved or not, the word miracle is often attached to sporting events with dramatic finishes but the 2013 double overtime playoff thriller between the Baltimore Ravens and Denver Broncos is certainly worthy of that distinction. When Baltimore found themselves down seven at their 30-yard line with 41 seconds to play and no timeouts, they managed to work magic and tie the game with little time to play.
Without giving too much away, the play was nothing short of a… miracle. In a tightly contested back-and-forth battle, this matchup truly had it all. Record-breaking returns. Crucial turnovers. Two quarterbacks on distinct missions - one out to prove he’s more than just a game manager, while the other aimed to complete an epic bounce-back season. But to truly appreciate all of that, we have to rewind.

This was my oldest sons first game he watched as a newborn. He was crying and I was trying to watch the game. I was a new dad so I put him in front the tv. Dude saw Ray Lewis lay out a hit and got quiet. Stayed quiet and watched everything Ray did. He’s 11 now. He wants to play football and guess what position. Linebacker. And he’s pretty good. Loves to rush the QB. And can get there. He just has issues with his confidence catching the ball. I think he’s getting better. We have a flag football team I’m QB for and he played one game with me after begging for 4 weeks. He had a big catch and a big run. Dude spun off a grown man. I think he’s ready.

He wasn't the only Broncos DB that happened to, either; Torrey Smith basically ended Champ Bailey's career with this game; if I remember correctly, both of Torrey's TDs were when he was matched up against Bailey. Sure, Bailey technically hung around another year or so, but he was pretty much a non-factor the following season and he retired the year after that when he failed to make the Saints' initial 53-man roster.

I remember watching this during my greyhound days. I was heading back to school from home and kept getting live updates at every terminal stop . That Jacoby catch, followed by Peyton “bowing out” in regulation (& the crowd’s boos immediately after-they were pissed lol), the slugger of OT #1…and I remember confirming to myself in a bit of shock like this game is STILL going…yeesh….but I was able to just see that final kick from Tucker. I was rooting for Ray’s swan song of a career, even as a chiefs fan, and couldn’t help but salute this squad after that season. There’s a few hated franchises out there, but I have yet to come across anybody with any true disdain towards this organization. They have to be one of if not the most respected, even when they “sucked”, you never count them out. All that to say if my boys fall to them Sunday I won’t be mad at all (as long as our unit don’t completely fall asleep at the wheel)

When Jacoby caught that ball I found myself screaming “Go Jacoby, go Jacoby!!” under my breath so I wouldn’t wake him up. Still love the end zone shot of the play because you can see Broncos safety Jim Leonhard’s knees buckle when Jacoby catches the ball. When the Ravens unveiled their 25 greatest games a few years ago, it was pretty anticlimactic that this would be No.1.

An absolute thrill of a game the entire time, I almost screamed myself hoarse when I watched Jacoby make that catch and send a kiss to the heavens, thanking the Good Lord for that gift of a touchdown. That postseason was like a dream for Ravens fans, especially after the previous years utterly devastating heartbreak. Flacco played like a man possessed, proving he was (and still is) ELITE 😂😂😂 and they got to send off the face, heart and soul of the franchise, Ray Ray, on top. This is without a doubt my favorite Ravens win (although that game against the Vikings the next year when like 30 points or whatever was scored in the last 3 minutes is still pretty near and dear to my heart). Loved that this game got a Deep Rewind, thank you!

I love Rewinder. Great work. I would love a Rewinder on Dwayne Rudd's helmet throw or Garrison Hearst's 96 yard TD run in OT. The Charger's upset win over the Steelers in the AFC Championship as well.

Seeing this video reminds me of a thought I've had since that loss: If only Peyton and the Broncos got to play in Super Bowl 47 in New Orleans, Peyton's hometown, and won. How great that would've been for Peyton, especially 1 season back from multiple neck surgeries. If only!

As a broncos fan, i think about this game nearly everyday, as well as the 1996 Divisional Match vs Jacksonville, two heartbreakers, but this 2012 one hurts more.

I think this is my favorite NFL game off all time. It had everything kick returns, crazy heroics, and a game winning field goal. I’m not even a fan of either team, this game was just that good.

You mean this is why you always do try outs for undrafted hopefuls. A team might get lucky and grab a position G.O.A.T.

I dunno man as good as the likes of McPherson has been for Cincy after being drafted, many of the best kickers kinda come out of nowhere. This year's pro bowlers are Tucker, an undrafted free agent, and Brandon Aubrey, a former 3rd tier soccer player who didn't even play the position in college and got his experience in training and the USFL.

I remember nobody giving the Ravens a chance going into this game; the media and Broncos fans were absolutely sure the Broncos were going to annihilate the Ravens. The run felt different in Baltimore even before that because of the energy around Ray's retirement announcement, but Jacoby catching that bomb from Flacco and then Tucker nailing the 2OT game-winner was the moment I knew this was a team of destiny and the Super Bowl was ours to lose.

Next episode should be the Bills Chiefs game in 2021. The "moment in history" can be Mahomes' pass to Kelce to end it, but so many insane moments and storylines to unpack from that game

This game. This FREAKIN game! I will always stand by the notion that if Moore makes that basic play at the end, this Broncos team would have gone on to win the super bowl. This was definitely the most well balanced team Denver had in the four years that Manning was QB. Honestly if I had to pick, this would be the most painstaking game I've seen as a fan of this team since I started watching football back in 2005.

The single greatest football gave I’ve ever seen. From storyline, game importance, legends on the field, on field drama, sun zero weather, back and forth double overtime and a great upset. I think about this game like it was just yesterday. Getting emotional just thinking about it.
