Tom Brady and Peyton Manning's final showdown deserves a deep rewind
Спорт
When the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots advanced to the 2016 AFC Championship, it was immediately obvious that the history books would need to be amended. Tom Brady and Peyton Manning had clashed 16 previous times, often in incredible fashion. With a Super Bowl appearance on the line, this time looked to be no different.
But what did set this showdown apart was it seemed highly likely to be the final time they would share the field. Possibly, it would be the final time Peyton ever stepped foot on the field. The fact it all came down to one final play meant the NFL script writers knew what they were doing.

Also worth mentioning: the reason they're trailing by 8 and going for 2 is because Stephen Gostkowski missed an extra point. The miss snapped his streak of 523 successful XPs, an NFL record. This was the first season the PAT was moved back to the 15, and he had made 55 already that year. A record that may never be broken ended this game.

Yeah at that point Manning was 0-2 in the Playoffs facing New England and had just thrown 4 interceptions in their last meeting. They went down 21-3 in the first half, and it looked like the same thing was happening all over again, until they completely flipped the script after halftime. The best part about the game was that unlike other comebacks one team didn’t just stop scoring and the other team crawls back in and barely beats them, after the score got closer it was a back and forth shootout. I thought they were dead when they gave the ball back to Brady with over a minute left but that interception was clutch as hell.

That 4th and 10 pass by Brady to Gronkowski on their last drive was one of the greatest and gutsiest throws I have ever seen. He put it right where it needed to be for Gronk. Then capped it off with a TD to Gronk. Unbelievable clutch time players making big plays.

Or if Bill just let the Patriots kick twice, or even once. They would have only needed a FG to win or the TD wins it. Don't need 2. Patriots fans are still pissed at Bill for costing them that superbpwl.
Fun fact: Due to this loss, Belichick made the Patriots offence practice a bunch of 2 point conversion; something which they would need the following year to pull off the greatest comeback in SB LI
I became a Broncos fan because of 2015. The storyline, the defense, Manning not being there and then returning. It was beautiful, peak football. It has been very quiet for the last 7 or so years, but I believe we will not be a punching bag very soon. My brother is a Pats fan and me joking and laughing that day and the season game in the snow is one of my favorite memories lol
Was in 5th grade when this happened. I had only just gotten into football a couple of years prior and chose the Broncos randomly. This year I became an absolute diehard as it was my first time playing football. This moment terrified me. That Gronk seam down the middle of the field on fourth down followed by his tip-toe touchdown is engraved in memory. But that 2-pt conversion is my second most memorable moment as a football fan; the first being Cam stepping back from the fumble. We haven't even been to the playoffs since but I am okay with it because we got our first chip since Elway.
There will never be another QB rivalry like it. Period.

As a Colts fan, it was great to watch my favorite athlete off all time beat Brady in their incredible final match-up and go out on top as a SB Champion. I'll forever be grateful for Von Miller for helping make both scenarios happen. Had he not DOMINATED against the Patriots and the Panthers in SB 50, both wins would not have happened. Salute
I was at this game in the end zone where all the action was in the 4th quarter. It’s the loudest sports environment I’ve ever been in my ears were ringing for about 2 days afterwards. My parents were in the middle of a bad divorce at the time but since I had grown up going to every broncos game with them my mom wanted my dad there for once last hurrah as a family of broncos fans. Even though I was actually fortunate enough to go watch my team win Super Bowl 50 this was by far the most emotionally invested I ever was in a game and it just felt like such a weight off bronco fans shoulders to get one last one over Brady with Manning and get a shot at redemption from the blowout that happened to us in Super Bowl 48. Always will remember this game as one of the best moments of my life

This is to me of the most heartbreaking loss we ever suffered. Denver refs robbed us when we played there earlier in the season. Bill pretty much threw away the number one seed the last 2 games.. if only this game was in Foxborough smh. James White couldn’t catch a pass vs Von Miller and Goatkoeski missed a PAT, couldn’t believe it. And this is the game Gronk showed everybody why he’s the greatest.
OH MY GOD I was waiting for this for so long, I requested this so many times and I'm glad to see it up. One of your best ones yet. But if there's anything here for me to gripe on, I was very surprised you didn't mention the Pats' loss to the Eagles in Week 13. They were coached by Chip Kelly, had Sam Bradford as their QB, coming off of three straight losses, including back to back full-on meltdowns against Tampa and Detroit, and stunned the Pats in Foxborough in one of the drunkest games Brady has ever been a part of. A blocked punt return, Malcolm Jenkins' 100-yard pick six, and Darren Sproles' punt return for a TD. Without that loss, the game is likely not in Denver. And the loss to the Jets in OT with that coin toss was weird too.
This video and the billy cundiff video summarize my childhood experiences of football i love it. It was so frustrating seeing the patriots do so well and then just barely do much in the playoffs. By most pats fans even when he had only 3 super bowls it was just expected that hed win any year. I'll never forget watching this game, and the entire second half felt like the Pats were on Denver's 35 and just couldn't move any closer. They'd drive down and then get stopped. Drive down and get stopped. Over and over. Say what you will about Peyton Manning and his lack of physical ability in that season, he was definitely still the leader of that team. The moment he replaced Brock Osweiler in the game against the Chargers the momentum of everything just felt different. Couldn't have been done without him.
"Welcome to a moment in history" is such a fitting phrase in these videos cause that's what they are. Always have to rewind after the moment just to hear it and watch what happens.

The only thing I’d say you got wrong about manning and the broncos is that manning was playing through a torn quad during the 2nd half of the 2014 season, leading to his drop in stats, especially during the last 4 games and their only playoff game that year. Despite that, manning putting up a 112 passer rating as a 38 year old is incredible after throwing for a record 55 touchdowns and 5477 yards in a season the year before
Von Miller made Brady his mare in this game.
Do a deep rewind for the 2006 AFC Championship when Peyton's Colts knocked off Brady's Pats for the first time in the playoffs, which also ended on a Brady INT. That game made it a true rivalry.
2012 Seahawks @ Bears. A seemingly average Seahawks team emerged in Chicago versus a top tier Bears team. The Seahawks went on a historic tear afterwards all the way to Super Bowl 48 and 49. The Bears had a historic collapse. It was Urlachers last time on the field for the Bears and Lovies last season. Russell Wilsons first year.
To break Peyton Manning's records from 2013 on a per game basis, you'd have to throw for 5,820 yards and 59 TDs throughout a 17-game season.

@scarefrow1 Yup, early days of Fandom were during the Kubiak-Schaub Era, not great teams, but always liked the style of offense, Daniels was a perfect TE for Kubiak, and Wade is always a great pick for a DC (not HC imo)

@@DarkDesperado25 oddly enough there were rumors of Peyton coming to the Texans in 2012.m but of course Schaub was playing well.
How time flies by. Can't believe that was 7 years ago in 2016.
Gotta love a new secret base video!!!!
I was at this game. I still remember my mom and I just in shock that the Super Bowl was next.
That 4th down bomb to Gronk down the middle was something amazing to watch live
As a patriots fan, this game still hurts. If only Stephen Gostkowski didn’t miss that extra point… probably staring at a Super Bowl championship threepeat
This season was such a roller coaster with how inconsistent the offense was but that defense was so good! Come playoff time they were locked in. That was a fun post season to watch. Go Broncos!
Broncos fans needed a lil bit of joy after this seasonm thank you SB nation.

facts i felt like a kid again watching this :)
such a good game. work was closed had a huge blizzard that day. got to stay home and celebrate the last time we were happy as Broncos fans😥😥
Even in a video about Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, Mark Sanchez stays catching strays lmao
Brady doesn’t outmatch Manning anywhere but super bowls. I don’t understand how anyone can say Brady was better than Payton. Payton meant more to his team. Tom Brady is the epitome of prototype plug and play.

He covered the 2014 nfc championship game between the Packers and Seahawks
This is the game that I always reference for why Rob Gronkowski is the greatest Tight End of all time, and it doesn't have to do with him playing receiver: On a play he blocked Von Miller into the ground, had Aquib Talib hovering by him in case he broke out on a route, and TJ Ward 8 yards down field hovering in case a double team was needed...he completely neutralized three of the best players at the time...
I remember this game. That entire broncos season could have turned out a completely different way if the defense didn’t get critical turnovers and scores. I remember all the hype leading to it, i remembered how that week 17 played out. Manning struggled all season and finally came back in that last chargers game, knowing that the patriots blew it in Miami, Denver won the 1 seed for this exact game. I knew it could be Peyton’s last game and for sure his last Vs Tom. I remember how dominant Denver’s defense was for the entire game, the two touchdowns from Peyton to daniels, the miss point after by gostkowski the numerous stops on 3rd and 4th by that broncos defense. Von’s interception. Wade Phillips and kubiak are legends, especially the no fly zone. On defense Talib, Harris, Roby, Ray, trvethan, ware, miller, Jackson, barret, Marshall, are names that I remember. Rip DT you champ, that offense had playmakers CJ, DT, sanders, and that Oline was steady throughout! truly was one of my favorite playoff games ever and it was a fitting end to the rivalry. So glad they won the Super Bowl and manning went out on top.
Bruh you got it wrong SB, the patriots played the Steelers in the 2016 AFC Championship not Denver
2008 National Championship. Mario's Miracle deserves a Deep Rewind.

One of the most stacked dance’s ever im regards to talent. The first Final Four with all #1 seeds. Historic matchup between KU and UNC in the Final Four. Then the epic collapse of missed free throws and bad fouls by Memphis.

@@rhetoricaljoke The missed free throws are only part of the story. The other part is Kansas then executing on the offensive end to take advantage of the missed free throws. Arthur knocking down a long 2-point jumper, Collins steal and 3-pointer, Chalmers hitting two pressure free throws on a one and one situation, and then of course Mario's Miracle to send it to OT. And then Kansas executing damn near perfectly in OT to close out the game.
thanks . as a broncos fan..... i needed this after this season.... lets ride *cries*
thank you this made my bronco fan day
Surprised the Gustkowski missed PAT didn’t make it into the video
This game proved why 1.GRONK is undoubtedly the greatest TE of all time and 2.Von Miller was arguably the best player in football that year
You should do an episode on the 1996 Olympics, the Women's Gymnastics Team Finals
this was put together really well
If Belichick would have accepted the field goals earlier in the quarter, the Patriots would have won 24-20. Instead, we saw another episode of Bill Belichick doghouse, this time featuring Stephen Gostkowski, who missed his first PAT in 10 years earlier that game.
You missed the important part. Stephen Gostkowski missed an extra point on that touchdown. If we had made that we would have kicked the extra point and it would have gone to overtime.
I’ll never forget this game
gotta love me some Final game That Can defines a Sports moment of our Life The rivalry Is Very intense to watch It feel like we're watching Muhammad Ali vs Joe Frazier but in American football that we're Witness the greatest ever I'd watch this Is Epic.
Finally! This was a hell of a game and I’m so happy to see it here!
The 2014 Don cheadle intro was amazing
I’ll never forgive gostowski for missing that extra point
As a Broncos fan, proud of this moment ❤
To play the role of obnoxious Broncos fan for a moment--the Broncos defense DID have an answer for Gronkowski. TJ Ward and Darian Stewart, their starting safeties, held him pretty much entirely in check for the first half of the game. In the second half, both of them had to leave the game with injuries, and Gronk started to go off.
This was very tough to get over for me this is a game I’ll never forget
Good one. Now, while we're still on football videos... what made Donovan McNabb finish his career Untitled?
Nothing like it in any sport. Since Shaughnessy came up, I would actually kind of love a Secret Base episode about sports journalism. The refraction from the Prism, if you will.
took me being a fan to 15 years to watch us win a superbowl!!!! 7 years later....not even a sniff of playoff victory smfh
Love the reference to the NFL script conspiracy 😂
