Reggie was so close to getting to the finals in 98 and 99. Then finally got there in 2000. Such a shame he never won a ring. One of the most clutch and underrated players. Imagine how many points he would score in today's 3 point friendly NBA game.

Yeah, I've always liked Reggie and rooted for him...Those Pacers teams in the mid-late 1990s were REALLY good, and they just couldn't quite get there - I am sure for him 1999 probably hurts the most, as they were probably the best team in the east that year (three way tie for the best record with Orlando and Miami), and they end up losing to their arch rival, the eight seed Knicks on that flukey Larry Johnson four point play that completely swung the momentum of the series in the conference final. Then, they have the best team in the east in 2005, and the Brawl at the Palace happens, completely wiping away that year. He got close so many times...but never over the hump.

Gotta feel for him as a coach... finally Jordan is gone and he finally gets his Pacers team to the finals, then runs smack into Kobe's coming out as the closest we'll ever see to Jordan in Game 4. Lifelong Laker fan who grew up on Magic vs Bird. I think it's vastly under appreciated that Kobe, ironically, got his first title against Larry Bird (and naturally his last against the Celtics). Who else?

I think Reggie Miller is a great example of someone who was truly talented and world class in his position achieving more success than most basketball players dream of ( gold medals, franchise star, Nba broadcaster, Hall of Fame inductee, and ranked one of the top 75 players ever ) Whose greatness is eclipsed by the all-time greats he competed against and because of that a lot of his biggest moments are at the hands of the people who were better than him or on better teams than him on their way to a title. It's probably a small consolation but so many championship roads and moments went through Reggie Miller and I guess if the tragedy of his career is that he never won a ring I hope he would take some pride in knowing that he made hell for the people who beat him out for it each and every time.

As a Pacer fan for over 30 years, this hurts to watch.

I remember when the detroit fight happened, the year the pacers would have probably won a championship, feeling sorry for reggie. That was his last chance.

I was at a house party a long time ago, and I mentioned that Reggie is one of my favorite players of all time. People were clowning on me and saying he's overrated. That same night, I RAN HOUSE on the beer pong table all night without losing. I made crazy clutch cups, and dominated everyone, all while talking an INSANE amount of trash. Thanks for the inspiration Reggie! It was definitely WINNING TIME!

Unless you’re on campus at UCLA or somewhere in the state of Indiana, Reggie is underrated if anything. If it’s anywhere in the 1990s and I need one player to make a basket for the win, my first choice is…of course…MJ. Number two, Reggie. He was that damn clutch.

I grew up in the Bronx, and I saw my father's face during those tough playoff series with the Pacers. Reggie really was the 'Knick Killer'.

I was 11 years old and I can still remember my heart collapsing when Reggie caught that ball with that much space I thought for sure it was going in... Even after he missed I couldn't even get happy because I know the Lakers dodged a huge bullet.

Agreed. Ran into the Knicks, lost to them a couple of times and beat them a couple of others, ran into MJ, fell short. Finally got out of the East, lost this one to Shaq and Kobe. His last best shots derailed by the Pistons and the Malice at the Palace.

That was the difference between Kobe and LeBron at that age. LeBron was the go to guy at 22 in the Finals vs a veteran led team In the Spurs. Shaq was so dominant during this series.

He only had to worry about the Knicks and they didn’t have enough firepower, everyone else was completely outmatched in the east because of how stacked the Bulls were. The fact that he led the Cavs to the best record and a Finals at the age, in just a 4 year turnaround (drafted in 2003), is insane.

Excellent video I'm a huge Lakers fan I remember this game vividly watching it at home with my dad(RIP) who was a huge Lakers fan but when the Jazz came to Utah the Lakers became his 2nd team which made for an interesting father/son rivalry. When the Jazz would play the Lakers my dad used to make me go downstairs to watch the games and would constantly talk trash through the vent or stomp on the floor and lay it on thick of the Jazz won and if the Lakers won which began to happen starting the 1999-2000 season my dad would tell me he was a Lakers fan long before I was born lol. I do remember when my dad took me to see the 1988 showtime Lakers vs the Malone/Stockton led Jazz. He had tickets to game 3 & 4 right behind the basket at the old Salt Palace. I caught so much crap from jazz fans( which would be a constant theme at games in the future) but game 4 when the Lakers won I had the bragging rights and I was only 8 years old at the time let the Jazz fans know what time it was ( another constant theme at games in the future which led to numerous incidents which I never started only finished) the Jazz fans behind us kept asking my dad if I was a serious diehard Lakers fan as I was portraying my dad let them know I was. Off topic a bit but great memories this night the birth of The Black Mamba

As a Bulls fan in the 90s, there was basically one guy in the East who scared me, and it was Reggie Miller. No crazy stats (other than 3-point % as a volume shooter), no crazy athleticism, no crazy 1-on-1 moves, but the dude was an absolute killer and always found a way to get open. He's right up there with Bird and Jordan in terms of finishing games.

I think a lot of people forget that kobe didn't come out the gate hot. He struggled for the first few seasons in his career before he turned into black mamba!

Miller's defenders had a really tough job in the 90's. Fighting through multiple screens is physically and mentally exhausting.

Reggie Miller's career was so great, filled with many great moments, and it's unbelievable to think how, just like Charles Barkley for instance, he never won a ring. The Pacers were a tough as nails team, and underrated players like Rik Smiths were pillars of a squad built to squander the heroes. But MJ and Kobe were anti-heroes. Reggie will forever be one of the greatest ever, despite nevery winning the Larry O'Brien trophy.

I walked into the room when my parents were watching game 5 versus the Knicks in 1994 also known as the Spike Lee game. Ben Hoots fanatic ever since and Reggie Miller is my all-time favorite player to this day.

Reggie is the perfect example of it wasn't meant to be for him to win. He ran into so many great teams and players. It just wasn't meant to be. Sucks because he was one of the best to ever play.

As a Pacer fan I remember watching this game as a kid. I wanted this championship so bad. I feel like the Pacers really pushed the Lakers in this series and for a 4-2 win it was such a roller coaster. Kobe stepped up when he needed to, and we did not have an answer for Shaq.

Absolutely. Rik had exceptional footwork for a guy 7’4” and had great spacing and court awareness. He knew he wasn’t going to be the greatest athlete on the court, but he was an exceptionally smart player that knew just where he needed to be. How many times did Rik block out the opposing center enabling one of the Davises to grab the board? Countless.

But in his first go around with Cleveland, he may have still lost but at least he wouldn't have been swept by San Antonio if he would've realized that the help that he needed was to develop his own shot. He called himself the greatest player in the world, and the who's consider a top defender in the league with Bruce Bowen sags below the free throw line while LeBron is at the top of the key. You don't need anybody who's consider the greatest, but replace that with somebody like Byron Scott, not one team would consider giving that much space. And just a little bit of a threat to score with that much space does wonders for opening up a teams offense.

Reggie miller also thought he was going to stop MJ from making the finals in his last season.. “this is it, I am going to retire Michael Jordan”… what a career Reggie Almost had.. hell, the malice in the palace was another year he thought he should have won it.

Can someone explain why the Rick Fox foul on Jalen Rose at the end of the game was 1 shot (taken by Reggie Miller) and the ball back to the Pacers? Was it a weird rule in effect back then? I’ve watched the actual game footage and the commentators treat it as common place and there was no technical or anything.

That rule still exists today. It's a "Away from-the-play foul", read section 10 of the "RULE NO. 12: Fouls and Penalties" NBA rule book. It's posted online for all to read. It basically means if you foul before the throw-in, you get 1 free throw by any player, plus possession. If it's an offensive foul, same thing just in reverse. So if Jalen Rose fouled Rick Fox as an example.

@@Mave-rick thank you, I don’t know why it seems like such a foreign call to me. I feel like I never see it but maybe I’m just not paying attention. I just think it’s so weird that they had a foul to give and this rule kinda makes that not matter too.

Reggie miller was like a poor man’s jerry west: clutch AF, great shooter played entire career with one team gave his heart to them, and always came really close to winning it all.. this could’ve been his one ring like Jerry got but Kobe and Shaq wouldn’t messed around and started a dynasty

Reggie miller is so underrated, just because he does not have the stats of superstars, this guy is lethal in offense and defense. also he plays within the flow of the game.

Content of the video is good as usual with this series, but the narration could be better. It is noticeably inferior to most of the other videos from the series.

This series reminds me of and espn or fs1 documentary and is always well put together! Props ......just could do without the needless cursing every episode!
