The RATTLESNAKE MINE Actually Has Real Rattlesnakes!

I got lucky and had my drone up in the air when a full grown Western Diamondback Rattlesnake was crossing the trail. I wanted to put him in my pocket and take him home but his body language was saying that I'd had better not try.

Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on KZread!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...

Well you finally got to see and put on film a rattlesnake. Yikes, he was a big one. Now stay away from bushes....huh? Neat terrain with many backroads. There was stockyard fencing by that windmill. Some rancher, yrs. back was running cattle in the area. Such great SW scenery! Cactus everywhere! You sure saved yourself some walking thru the "picker brush" by using your drone. Also, with snakes on the back of your mind, that took the cautiousness & worry off you also. This was different today & enjoyable. Thanks for taking us along on your "re-con".

Yup gly, I have a placer claim in Arizona and the only way to access it is by driving a side by side thru the dry wash. There was a jeep trail at one time to get to the claim back in the 20’s-30’s but has since been blocked off by a residential home in the 80’s. We can’t stop people from accessing the property whether they’re just driving thru (which you can’t go any further past 3/4 of a mile from our last corner marker and then you’ll have to turn around) , hiking, hunting or even camping on the claim. But once they start looking for minerals, we can have them arrested and charged for taking mineral's without written claim owners permission as long as we have proof of their activities. Other than that, it’s public property.

We need to provide you with a settling torch. What I do not understand, all of these minds are on BLM property which stands for bureau of land management, which also stands for public lands. That means that all of that land and what is on that land belongs to the people of the United States we pay taxes on that land and we have the right to explore that land. More and more people cannot take responsibility for their own actions, and everybody knows and it is posted on almost every single abandoned mine. Do not enter extremely dangerous, but people that enter and get hurt sue the federal government it is just ridiculous. But if you choose to enter your mind, you do it at your own risk, and they need to stop closing off these minds and plugging them up. Because one day American people are going to have to re-enter a majority of these minds to remind precious resources that are available., Bad times are coming people just need to wake up and see it.

Nice rattle snake, I've encountered many over the last 50 years, many at 29 Palms Marine Base. Heard many stories of Marines getting bit, a buddy of mine cut the head off one, I tried to get him to just leave it alone but no he just had to kill it just to say he did, he did dress it out and cooked it, he and a few others ate it. Great videos Gly, love the Drone shots. Very interesting place there, yes I bet you two are going to incounter water, the windmill and water tanks tells me water is not to far away. Fun snake fact: they don't have ears! Snakes 'hear' through vibrations traveling from the ground into their jaw bones. That's why it was far less responsive to the drone than you or your vehicle. Air vibrations don't register much with snakes, especially the higher pitched stuff (a deep bass drum, like the kind that you can feel vibrating your chest, is probably audible to snakes.)

The cotton woods in the bottoms of those washes tell you the water is pretty shallow likely within 50 feet probably a lot less of the river bottoms. Looks like a date palm at the end of the road of the 1st site, so could be a dump site? the snake was more agitated than I've seen most must be the drone most don't react unless perturbed, but they can strike even if not coiled so don't get too close. The 1st mine site will get colder than the 2nd site as saguaros have a similar frost tolerance to citrus but they are also more tolerant on east facing slopes where the frost period can be mitigated. Not sure if the wind mill was for the mine looks like a ranching operation at least now the stock pen was new. there may be more sealed shafts there has been a kick to close off potential mine drainage into the drainage's that feed Phoenix or the Colorado, at least where evidence of active roosting can be found. Its possible the shaft is loose filled and can be dug out fairly easily if no blasting is required it could preserve whats left if the collar was lost. What was a big mine was San Manuel not sure whats left after the shut down after removing 700 million tons of ore. the underground had 5 - 3000 ft deep shafts...

West of Cleator on the way to Crown King. There are mines that have open adits. One of the mines is called the De Soto. The other one is called swastika. I can show you where they’re at.

@rickcalliham9171 yup, I stop by Cleator every winter during my mining season for a couple of hours of drinking. We get a little to wasted everytime & we never get a chance to get to crown king LOL. I love the cleator bar, cheap beer & it’s not far from my mining claim (about 45 min drive via 17 or 1 1/2 hrs via jeep trails from Black Canyon City if we drive the side by side.
