The RAT • Review for Gilmour and Pink Floyd sound

Музыка

Here's the review for the Proco Rat, distortion pedal used by David Gilmour especially in his live performance during The Division Bell Tour in 94.
One of my favourite distortion pedals because of its versatility: in fact it can cover all the eras, from the 70s to latest tones.
RIG:
Money: Dynacomp - RAT - Nova Delay 310ms
What do you want from me: CS2 - RAT - Nova Delay 500ms - RT20
Castellorizon: CS2 - BD2 - RAT - Nova Delay 440ms
The Rat in Castellorizon is set with Filter 50% and Distortion 55%
I forgot to put the picture on screen.
Recorded with Mooer Two Stones pre-amp directly into Scarlett Solo 3rd gen.
Software: FL Studio

Just bought one after your video, the first distortion I've owned for decades as I was using overdrives & then just my amps (Victory & Orange) cranked. This pedal is giving me a really musical feedback when cranked & notes just sustain forever and that's without a compressor! loving it... thanks

Excellent playing! Very Gilmourish ahah. It's good to hear the rat on Gilmour style leads, a breath of fresh air when on most other rat reviews/demos on youtube people can't seem to break out of the grungy rock zone, all while praising the pedals versatility.

I never knew Gilmour used a Rat. I've used it since it was recommended along with a Roland JC-120 at Manny's Music in NYC in 1986. I had a lot of tube snobs snicker when I rolled that in to many gigs but come up after to say how great it sounded and "that's SOLID STATE???", ha ha. I used two, one with the distortion set at 9pm and one at 1030pm. After 3 Rolands and back issues, I now use a Boss Katana mk100, but I still have the Rat hooked up.

@Francesco - You are missing a Boss GE-7 graphic eq pedal 'after' the RAT (post) that Pete Cornish put wired together as one unit (could use a loop) in Gilmour big Cornish pedal board. He used the GE-7 to fatten up the RAT by boosting more lo-mids-midsand to make the Start-Rat combination cut through on stage & record. Search online for his Cornish board images for eq setting. I stumbled upon this with my early 80's big & small box Rats way back when I bought the pedals new. It is awesome!

@@gilmourtheory - Hey, sorry... I was just trying to address an Gilmoud issue others had brought up but didn't know if you were aware of the post Rat GE-7 eq's Gilmour he had used. Your tone here is great though and playing is super. BTW - I have 2 80's original & 2 90's big box reissue Rats. The can sound like a fender tweed deluxe for country to Neil young & Crazy Horse... then go to classic Marshall tones to grunge. For my money the 80's Rats are the best sounding/most versatile distortion pedals ever made. The with an EQ post Rat it take them to a whole different level.

@@gennadyagafonov9780 yes, the big muff is usually associated with gilmour as he used it primarily from 1977 up to 1983 in the studio, but he also used other drives quite extensively, a fuzz face before 1977, the HM-2 in the mid-to-late 80s, the RAT in the early 90s and the Tube Drivers since the 90s

I shit you not I went on sweetwater to order this pedal 61 seconds into this video. Is that an impulse buy or what😅

A performance do guitarrista é muito top, mas faltou "presença" ao pedal. Em alguns trechos ficou sem a ênfase peculiar de guitarra solo tão característica do Gilmour.

Closest gilmour tone ive heard to date. Always room for improvement but no one has come this close to his tone. The secret though is dave himself of course.
