Would also recommend the GPi Case from Retroflag. Challenging, but a good starting build if you’re ok with with more technical stuff. But definitely do you’re research to see exactly what you need or if you’re ready for a particular build.

I am loving it

Raspberry Pi has always been absolutely fascinating. I remember when they first came out and was floored at how tiny they were with so much power - especially for the time. No cases were even available at the time! And they were sold out for AGES. Just a cool, affordable way to get some basic computing.

Reasons why I was Spawn Wave: 10% to be up to date with gaming news, 90% to see pointless but really cool tech stuff that I'm never gonna buy

Most definitely. I have no use for that but I'm glad that he has one for the channel.

I think this has become the best case for retro emulation this year.

Recently got into Raspberry Pi projects due to videos like this. Very fun and allows for a lot of creativity. Definitely considering doing this one in the future.

I bought one. Mostly going to be playing the Gameboy stuff and plug it into a TV for the Dreamcast stuff or N64 sometimes. It's like having a retro Switch on the go. I don't know why people are complaining. I don't think Retropie can work with GameCube or anything higher yet. This is for like the Atari and up to Dreamcast. I don't think most people understand the low capabilities of Retropie. Unless you overclock it, but if you don't know how to do that then don't try it. Just keep playing on a computer. Don't worry about this thing.

@@18yzfr66 The enclosure doesn't close all the way. And something's wrong with the sound. But the sound happened a while after. Not sure what happened with that.

This is just a great way to play .. Pi 4 is very powerful 🦾 What I like about this model is the USB ports you can still use and HDMI Out 8:07. So it's a 2 in 1 Handheld / Consoles ... Retro Monster Machine !

I want a switch from factor pi case. After using my switch for years, I'm to spoiled to go to a smaller screen now. I realize it would have to be thicker in the spot where the pi would go. I think it would sell like hot cakes

As Anonymous Idea says, if you like the form factor of Switch, hack your switch or get another to have just for hacking - performance is way above Pi 4 in general emulation.

Graham Potter they tend to be super expensive when hacked or hackable, at least, from what I saw on ebay a few weeks ago.

I ordered this I cant wait, This has to be the coolest pi case. Ive never owned a Pi but this definitely made me want to have one.

I would like a shell similar to the Turbo Express. The rear buttons could be directly below the logo on the back panel.

This is a very well built device with great controls and an excellent screen.

This thing looks crazy uncomfortable. I wish we could get a 6-button, 4-shoulder, dual-stick, GBA-style case.

@@BraddahSpliff A GBA-style case puts your hands further apart, which some people find more comfortable. It's not just about the sheer number of buttons, it's about the layout. Though six face buttons is probably a bit much regardless.

Need a switch style case and button layout with 6-7 inch screen. Using my switch over the last few years, I'm to spoiled to go to a smaller screen and more of a cramped button layout

These boards are actually pretty clean. It feels quality.

I have one order. I can't wait until I get mine. I been doing alot of research and so far. Out on the market. They are one of the best out there for running most emulators. If there are better hand held one out there. I would like to see you doing a side by side comparison with them. Thank you and keep the good work up.

I grabbed the 4gb model. Excited for it to arrive but I believe I'll be waiting at least a couple more weeks.

I love that it comes with a rechargeable battery. I've been using the gpicase with a pi zero w. I like using it but it drains the rechargeable AA batteries so fast that it became a hassle.

I would have a switch looking pi case instead. I need a bigger screen and my buttons spread out a little bit

I'd rather see it as an Atari Lynx style case. It's big enough to house the pi unlike GBA. In fact I'd like them to make the Lynx version with a 5" screen since it has the space.

@@polocatfan mine runs flawless, but mine is OC from 1.5ghz to 1.8ghz .... also ETA PRIME has no issue running this even on his 6 month old video ( the emulator is way better now also ) retropi is perfectly adequate at emulating n64

@@polocatfan you have to change the emulator from Mupen64 plus Next and you have to overclock it. Them most games run well (probably except GoldenEye but GoldenEye runs like shit on a n64 in general)

You could get a pi 4 to fit inside a game gear shell. That would work pretty nicely, I think.

creating custom GBA shells is definitely one goal I have with my 3D printer :D

Yes, you have to change graphics plugins for different games to get better emulation out of it. There's a massive compatibility less out there on Reddit that I've referenced to get solid performance out of my Pi 3. This'll be no different.

Great video? Keep it up! Question? How loud is the fan? Is the fan temperature-triggered? Similar to Pimoroni Fan Shim.

For SM64, use the decomp and compile it onto a Pi, then you'll get silky smooth 30fps.

The form factor is the one and only reason I didn’t pick one up...and decided to build my own kit (which, pragmatically doesn’t make sense as it’ll cost me more, take dozens of hours and is probably end up with worst build quality). Definitely looks like a nice kit, though!

To make N64 work better, change the CPU governor from on demand to performance. A lot, but not all, choppyness is due to the on demand governors dropping down to 1000 and then back to 1500mhz constantly. Obviously, you can also overclock. 2ghz gives a nice boost to N64. 2.147ghz isnt really worth the extra power draw in my experience.

I have an abandoned Pie 4 in my closet. I should do something with it...

I really like the idea of it, but I'm not sold on the dmg form factor. I think a landscape layout would be better and that should also open up some space for a second thumbstick.

I would look into the Retroid 2 handheld. The 4 shoulder buttons are on point, plus it’s running android.

That last min win on mario kart was sick!

I love the idea of the GBA. If they do that, I will probably jump on it.

I question the dual shock/dual joystick games for the ps1... I would want a psp or vita shape case or something wide than long.

I agree, a gameboy advance style case would be way better. I would even deal with it being a little bigger to accommodate the Pi4.

I almost bought one but lack of USB C, odd L R buttons, squished layout and such has me waiting for a v2. I know a GBA case is more sought after but I'd like to see a Game Gear one, more space to work wtih. Some analog triggers and a second stick would be kinda nice too. I do like this setup with all the ports outside. Just plug it into a TV and hand over a controller for multiplayer. Would be nice if they made a dock for it too or better yet a Switch like Design wouldn't hurt but in that case a bulky Game Gear style case would work out just fine. I'd also like to see better battery life but again a bigger case would help with that, the gameboy form factor is just too squished.

Could you maybe show how it would work with USB controllers attached or some sort? I'm thinking of playing multiplayer on this. Or if there is anyway for 2 way comms to play multiplayer with 2 of this.

If you mean on an Switch you can get replacements joysticks for around $5 on Aliexpress. Get the after market, not the Nintendo original ones. So far I've not seen any drift problems with the aftermarket ones and I've been using one for about a year now.

can you plug and use controllers through the usb ports in the top?

aw man they should have just let the batteries stick out of the back with the l and r button at its top.

I like the idea but I agree with the shape of the case, you said GB Advanced I was thinking maybe the game gear may work better.

I'd wait for a v2 version of this kit. or like a GBA form facotr, or even a DS one, with 2 actual screens, for obvious reasons. DS emulation would be amazing. or even 3ds possibly.

The kit is separate from the Pi itself, but I have seen people shove Pis into a GBA case. If you know what you're doing you can build a DS one for sure.

How is RetroPie handling Atari Jaguar these days? If they've successfully emulated that system, then I am interested in upgrading to Pi 4.

Look into freeplay tech for a game boy advanced form factor. But that is a diy kit... which you obviously won't have any issues with. Just a heads up.

This is cool, would be nice to get a GBA shaped one. How does Arcade/MAME work?

Mame runs awesome on a pi 4. Don't expect to be running Killer Instinct but a lot of stuff runs great.

I just got mine and find the fan to be very noisy, and it rattles when I move the unit. Do you know if there is an alternative fan I could purchase that would be quieter?

You should check out the Odroid Go Advance, it's even extremely simple DIY

Where do I get roms that work with the 8gb version? I can only find 2 to 4gb

When I emailed ExperimentalPi they replied that they might have an update with USB-C but only after the initial run was fulfilled

I want a Game Gear version but a V2 with USB-C would be nice. One of the reasons I held off on buying one just yet. Better battery life, extra analog stick, analog triggers too if possible.

I'm sure you already know this but you can get Mario 64 pc port running nearly flawlessly through Retropie with a bit of effort!

I run mario 64 on the pi 3 and the gameplay is flawless, so idk you got a bunk system there

Would like to know how long it took to receive this. I ordered mine on 28 July and still haven't received it yet

They said they are hoping to have all preorders shipped out by the end of September. So hopefully soon. I can't wait for mine.

you could fix the shoulder button issues if you have a 3d printer

If you want N64 games to work on raspberry pi 4 I would get a case which has a fan and you can easily over clock the system natively. I have a Argon 1 case which is a metal case it’s not handheld but it has a nice fan inside it’s very quiet and it has access to the GPIO pins if your into that!

You can overclock with this case. Its been tested up to 2.147ghz though I recommend only 2ghz. It takes alot more power to get that extra 147mhz.

Is this four hundred plus dollars like the Soulja boy FPGA thingy that sold out in like five minutes couple weeks ago?

Do a NESPI 4 case full install. I haven’t found a good tutorial out there.

Nintendo 64 does work just depends on the emulator your using for the pi. Plus there overclock
