It’s due to blue pigment being extremely difficult to produce naturally. A lot of blue animals use microscopic structures on their bodies (like on a butterfly’s wings) to change how the light is absorbed and bounced, making them appear blue without blue pigment. I doubt that’s the case here though, which is extra cool

Another lobsterman caught and documented a half blue/half orange lobster split almost evenly down the middle of the shell. Even more astounding was that underneath the tail it was half male and half female. I think that would be the rarest lobster ever known.

Akron Zoo actually has a blue lobster! It was found in a Red Lobster nearby for some reason, and she was brought into the zoo in her own tank. I think her name is Clawdia, or something.

I used to have a couple blue crayfish in my 150 gallon aquarium. The Oscars and Jack Dempseys would eat them so they would climb out on the air tubes and jump out the back where the filters were. They would walk down the hall and try to sneak past the pit bulls to the floor drain in the laundry room. The dogs would start barking at them if they seen them trying to escape lol.

My uncle had a blue lobster as a pet when I was a kid. I didn’t see him often but he was very wealthy. It’s the one thing I remember the most out of his whole house. Almost correct. They can keep females if she's caught without eggs, is the right size and doesn't have a notch. They only notch the females if they see her with eggs or she's too big (or small, I think). But I think that some fisherment also notch lobsters that looks unique. I'm not sure though. (This is how I understood it as not all females can lay eggs)

Legally cannot keep it. She has a notch in her tail, meaning she's an egg layer, has been caught before, and had eggs on her. The notch lets others know she is protected.

@@yaimem its a one in two million because they have a genetic mutation that is unfavourable and makes them less likely to survive in their environments, its the same animal from the same species so breeding it with other blue ones or normal ones isnt just gonna make the same rare mutation happen, theyre like albino animals who just have a messed up gene that makes them lack pigment but it makes most animals blind and easily hunted because they cant blend in with their environments or compete for food properly compared to regular animals without it

@@yaimem Because it’s a genetic abnormality. It’s like albinism where someone would be born with the absence of pigmentation despite have normal parents. That’s not something that can be easily passed down. Even if two parents were to have the albinism gene there’s still a 1 in 4 chance their child would be albino. The likely hood of the lobster passing down broken genes is very low. That’s exactly why it’s a 1 in 2 million chance of encountering one.

That's ABSOLUTELY beautiful. I didn't even know that there were blue lobsters. Different is so beautiful and so is nature!!

I’m a diver and I’ve seen some really beautiful sea creatures. Even things like pufferfish which most people assume are boring can be really varying from your usual grey with white spots to a really bright yellow. They can also vary in size too- you get pufferfish the size of your fingernails to huge fat things almost 2 feet long.
