the RANGEMAN solar charging is BETTER.

More testing is needed, but the solar charging SEEMS better than the GBD-H2000. Not huge, but noticable.

It's the time of the year with the most sunlight. Maybe it's just my imagination, but it seems like the Rangeman is getting more boost from the sun than the GBD-H2000 did last year.
That's just my impression. We'll need to quantitatively test that. So stay tuned.

    I purchased a yellow and black GA 900 after seeing the Casio UK test video on a construction site, I immediately fell in love with it. I've had g digital shocks but now I'm really starting to appreciate the hands, and ga 900 does not disappoint, simple and reliable. I recommend it Jim, see the video if you can!

    If you pay several hundred dollars for a watch, “solar assist” shouldn’t be in the equation, IMO. I found this out with my Garmin Instinct solar.

    The biggest problem of every watch with smart features is charging. That's why I chose to buy GBD-200 instead of my smart watch. Even though I wasn't using every feature of my smart watch, I was tired of charging it every 1 week or 10 days. Many people buy smart watches and experience charging problems even if they do not use its features properly. I'm tired of constantly charging it. I finally got rid of this problem.

    Well sadly you won't want to be changing out the battery either. It's very costly. Especially if you have to have the watch pressure tested.

    Good point. You can really stretch out the time between charges on the GBD-H2000.

    Him Jim.. I bought the same version as yours.. The GPR H1000 can't wait for Your next update, maybe changing the rubber strap to the canvas strap for fun experience.. because I think canvas strap has better grip on wrist

    I got another G shock in the mail the other day, a used GW9300, the JDM version of the G9300. Old watch now, but has solar and cool carbon fiber band and band stay. Almost mint condition too, packaged so well and an origami crane on top, hah. Just another watch for the collection really as my daily is a GG B100. I'd like a new solar g shock (eg. GWG2000) as much as the next guy, but damn some are getting on in price.

    Jim thanks again. Ive been following your videos. I think you dont connect your watch to your phone via Bluetooth? If that is the case is it possible that the service center updated your firmware to the latest one and perhaps the latest firmware has updated the solar charging algorithm?

    Solar watches have such quiet alarms...so they don't run down the battery....pointless having the alarm function.

    Great video Jim. Can you run your solar assist watches to dead and then put them in power save mode, then place in the sunlight to see which watches get back to functional, then get to 50%, then to 100%? Variable are plenty in that each module may have different energy requirements to run. Also, solar cell density on the watches may be different causing different recharge rates. The wispy clouds you’re referring to are cirrus clouds, ice crystals in the upper atmosphere. Those clouds typically indicate precipitation will happen in 24-48 hours. I’d love to do a collaboration video with you. @realidealgear. I think we’d have a grand time talking Casios and our faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Take care, Tim

    That’s the general rule on how many charge cycles a smart watch can take. But, if you do the math that comes out to lasting for about 27 years. In my case, I have a Garmin I charge every 3 weeks. That comes out to about 18 charge cycles per year. Even if I bump it up to 20 charges per year it will still last 25 years with the “500 charges rule.” If I double the charges to 40 per year, that’s still 12.5 years of usage. The technology is likely to be obsolete by that point. And I’ll probably still be wearing a mechanical diver watch I bought a decade ago anyway… Good video on the Casios.

    Well Mr. Jim, you should consider buying some cheap watch box in order to avoid a solar watches discharging because that's not so good for a battery. And also, you should consider leaving your job and starting to work as a Casio tester, from your home 😀😀😀 I don't think any Casio engineer is able to test the watches better than you. I don't know how much solar watches I got, but I've never experienced even the ''medium'' level, just because watches are in the boxes.

    Casio, Gshock, Protrek, all they do is tell the time. All their watches with altimeters and barometers need constant attention. This means having a proper topo map or a Garmin as well. Which then begs the question, why buy one of Casio's sub-brands? Look at the features and capabilities of the Instinct 2X and Fenix line. Casio again, just tells the time and has god awful color schemes.

  • @JimKinkade

    @JimKinkade

    Yea I need to calibrate the barometer a lot. I understand the Instinct has better functionality than the Casio. But when you DO want a watch that just tells time the Casios are the way to go.
