Despite facing different kind of horror, they all have one thing in common. They all come from the same town, and possibly, all of their horror starts here. Now its up to them to put a stop to their curse, and maybe, save this town. At the same time, an elusive cult that secretly runs the sleepy town spring to action. Tireless in their pursuit to bring back the eldritch being that once ruled over humanity ages ago. Before being struck down and sealed by the brave ancestors of the sleepy town. Unintentionally, their descendant continue their legacy.

As someone who visited Japan. Boss Coffee is fucking great.

This artist is probably the most recognized Japanese horror game maker I’ve seen. Either that or I’m horrible at telling game devs apart.

chilla's art has gotta be the most well-known indie japanese game maker i've seen, they've even made it international. i think they also made aka manto iirc. they're like the puppet combo of japanese horror indie

He's definitely getting there, but I wouldn't call him "the most recognized". There's still people like Daisuke "Pixel" Amaya, Kikiyama, ZUN, and Kowloon Kurosawa just to name a few indie guys. Not to belittle Chilla, but there are a lot that already exist.

Just a fun bit of a trivia even if the art doesn't appear, but the original piece of artwork that's commonly associated with the Tomino's Hell poem (I believe it was creepypasta that started it) is called "I don't want to be a bride anymore" by Yuko Tatsushima.

Yep! No idea how it got mixed in with it, probably just someone using a creepy image and it just sticking. That said, she's an absolutely amazing artist and she's done a ton of other works that I'm sure people would like. I think her website has basically all of them. She also does photography of flowers and stuff too. If you want something more cheerful and bright lol.

@@brandonmojica9693 it's difficult to find any information in English, but the artist has been through some very traumatic experiences, has been in and out of psychiatric care, and is probably not the most well-adjusted and healthy person you could hope to know.. but to her credit she's an amazing and prolific artist.

I really like how the radio gets dimmer and dimmer as you explore the room/get farther away from the sound source, it gives a really horrifying ambiance

Damn this game gave me the chills. I even skipped parts of the poem. I can't believe Manly just read it with no problem at all. His nickname ain't for nothing.

I feel this was actually pretty effective as a horror game for what you actually do in it. The over all atmosphere of the game carries it well for me, especially during the tape listening and the driving (which was a lot better than I was expecting) parts.

That whole sentence he said was just timed to translate "okay"

"made by chilla's ar-" me: WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO YEAHHHHH BABYYYY THATS WHAT WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THATS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT

As soon as I pieced together "Tomino" I knew it was going to be in relation to "Tomino's Hell". The poem is damn near famous.

Gotta love how his reaction was "better turn this over to the police who will never believe me" rather than immediately grabbing that poem, the tape, any and all records of it and burning it in a barrel til nothing is left. XD

when the capital letters appeared, I thought it was tomino shell, after mumbling that for a few times I searched it on Google and it was tomino's hell instead of tomino shell lol. That one poem that you shouldn't read aloud

"Text is going really fast..." **Okay stays on the screen for ever**

One of the stronger stories from Chilla's Art in my opinion, but just standing around listening to the tapes isn't the best. I do wonder if it would have been better if you had some sort of tape player in the car, so that you could have listened to the tapes as you drove around looking for the next one. Might have made the driving even more awkward as it's another thing vying for your attention, but it would mean you're not just listening to them all in a row.

Especially if it's a radio station. You could put the tape into the player and listen in on your car radio!

I will say that since I don't understand Japanese, I'm forced to watch the screen in order to know the story. Because of this, I can't just tilt my head or squint my eyes, making me more vulnerable to any imagery.

I liked what you said about it being a more “realistic haunting” type of horror because I agree situationally, sitting in this abandoned radio station in the dark and listening to your brother read ghost stories after his death and you hear a noise in the other room- that’s scary 😨

Imagine an open world game like this that contains all of Chilla's Art games organically.

In my country, we have a former radio DJ who hosts a channel where he reads horror stories too, but usually he doesnt read them word for word, but reads a couple of sentences ahead of what he says out loud so that he can summarise or tailor the story to suit the listener. Its interesting, cuz he has been called on air and asked if he wants to see ghosts, as the caller said he/she can "send" them to him. Thankfully the guy is still fine, and still sharing ghost stories on his YT channel.

I feel that they should have allowed you to possibly play out these ghost stories being told through tape as opposed to having to sit and listen. The stories made sense it just got a bit boring at times.

Damn, this feels like a nod to “Tomino’s Hell” same rhyme and feel and the legend to that poem is you’re cursed to die upon reading it, the exact same concept as this poem, (I’ve seen a lot of Japanese horror story authors who have AI read the story out loud for them for fear of the legend) that would be interesting if they pulled from that legend, I’ve read the story, and it’s about a brother and sister in hell, it’s dark stuff tbh! If you listen to this story, it’s a brother and sister, not the exact same flow and story telling but the same darkness is there as Tomino’s Hell and kudos to you, game developer, I didn’t think anyone would ever make a game that makes a nod to this legend if that’s the case, bc I read the story of Tomino’s Hell and even “Cowhead” another cursed story apparently so cursed that the legends say the Japanese in an attempt to save their own ppl from reading the story took it apart and separated the pieces and burned the whole story, pieces of the story apparently survived and the stories say that if you read that story aloud you’ll lose your marbles and die from insanity.

Oh my gosh, I love Masaki's voice actor. He sounds so excited every time he opens his radio show.

I love Chilla's Art but I think there's not enough going on with this one. Still a fun watch

I liked this one. This...semi-open world thing,driving around and finding secrets. Just sitting in the darkness listening to tapes while nothing happens just ignites the imagination and you're anxious to see what changes and what happens next. What I'd like though are more random things happening. Like the ghost standing outside the radio station looking in,or the boar and the scratching in the car. This was cool,I like that kind of stuff

The real horror here is Manly not closing the fridge at 18:00

This must be what Fukawa was doing before she started writing romance novels. Also the ghost sounds like a chocobo.

The creator of this game and the Convenience Store is looking to make a permanent mark in horror game history, similar to Puppet Combo... but higher quality games mostly. Edit for clarification: To be clear I wasn't really comparing the two in anything other than the retro style graphics and both making horror themed games. Puppet Combo tends to focus more on the chase and old school slasher film styles and makes his games at a more rapid pace, they aren't BAD in anyway, They are both really great creators and I respect both of them a ton, I could never do anything close to what either of them have managed.

That's a key part of American horror too though. "Average american family faces horrible demons," "killer in them woods will hunt you down," "mass murderer in suburbia," all of those types of stories aim to do the same thing

@@alphahunter4791 with those too though, isn’t it just the characters in creepypastas being targeted by the cursed media that they stumble upon? I could just be under-exposed to creepypastas, but I’ve never seen one that itself contains the curse that actually threatens *you*, the reader. I’ve seen a few stories like that on r/nosleep maybe, but still I’d say that J-horror does it more often, and imo, much better.

finally, i was telling myself a few days ago that i was missing you playing Japanese horror games lately, finally you got another chillas art game

I think this is the scariest one of Chilla's games that I've seen so far. Idk there is something really unsettling about being stationery and listening to tapes while for the most part nothing happens around you, but you feel like it's going to happen at any moment. Found footage makes everything scarier.

Imagine writing a poem that’s so bad that anyone that recites it gets killed by a demon. No matter how you look at it, that’s actually impressive!

I’ve never been motion sick in my life but that driving was something else 😂

If I had an experimental late night radio segment I’d spend it walking around and scratching stuff into the mic or dropping things and a volunteer would be aggressively wheezing in the background the whole time, and then I’d end the segment with a “thanks for listening to Ms. [name]’s secret basement experiment day number [whichever segment we’re on numeircally].”

I didn't read the full title or description so the second I heard tomino I was like "this is a neat take of a creepypasta" after not realising that's what it was like- most of the time-

I get what you meant by acquired taste but I really liked it, just listening to the narrators soothing voice and interesting stories and lore, it felt very world buildy. as an RPG mega fan that really appeals to me haha
