Funny, I was told a true story by a man who grew up in East Germany, escaped, became a US Citizen and went back to visit family years later. He wanted to rent a car so he went to the car rental place and they showed him a laminated poster with all their models. He kept pointing and they said it was not available. He finally asked what they had that was available and he was told he had to choose. They were not allowed to pick for him. After going through the charade, he got some sort of Yugo like car so poorly made he imagined it would crack like a walnut if they hit anything. They had the appearance of choice, but they only had one type of car available.
