QUOTES:
“Lattes is a classic example. Everybody tells you not to spend money on lattes. That’s the worst advice ever! Buy as many lattes as you want.” [11:12]
“When I ask people what’s a rich life to you, they usually say two things. Freedom, which is a very nice word, but kind of generic. And they say a number, usually a million bucks.“ [14:58]
“No matter what, you will get the shit kicked out of you at some point in life. And you can take two routes. You can say, Oh that sucks I’m never gonna do that again. Or you can say, oh, that did suck, what did I learn from that? How can I improve?” [20:33]
“I routinely show people how to negotiate 10, 25 thousand dollar raises.” [24:55]

As a black man I totally get that we can get in our head and try to fight a bigger fight then needed. Losing sight of our own place in the world. The prejudice and struggle does create a callous heart and mind. During the video I was doing alot of the things they said. Playing victim and making excuses for why them and why not me. As I continued to watch I took a self inventory and that ball in my stomach that was resisting the belief that I will prevail if Im put the work in went away. I am going to continue to push forward and not lose myself in societies issues. I have a goal and a family that means more to me then any things else. Staying Hard. Thanks!

Wow. Loved the psychology talked about in this interview... rather than just another "tips to get rich" kind of advice. The part about people racing to be the victim was very interesting. Some golden nuggets I'll take away is things like "it's much easier to go from 15 to 30% than it is from 0 to 15, but people would rather dream of doing 30% than even start with 15%" so true! Thanks Ramit and Tom, really enjoyed this interview! Impact Theory is really the place to be if you want more than just the generic advice! Really grateful for this channel!

The second credit card will be paid off by the end of the year. Together combined is under £5,000 and I am making all my minimal payments. My next goal is Target day funds, already did my research and know which one I’m getting. Ramit, you’re incredible. Such practical advice. Thank you!!

I can relate to Ramit's suggestions on how to be happy and successful. My husband and I were taught by our parents (Silent Generation), to always pay yourself first no matter what circumstances you are in. You will ALWAYS have bills and will ALWAYS have to pay them to survive. But if you don't pay yourself first, then you will miss out on self fulfillment. Greatest advice we could have received. We've been in the work industry for over 40 years now and it still holds true. Pay yourself first. We started out paying ourselves at least 10% of our gross pay each pay period. That wasn't much but it was a start. Once we saw the benefits of this, we started contributing more each year that passed. You make adjustments in your lifestyle just like you do in any other area. It can be done if you work at it. Thanks for another great guest Tom.

I just want to say Tom, I’ve only recently started watching your KZread vids and O.M.G I’m stunned and amazed at how these extract intrinsicly relevant core content and fresh concepts/ principles/ “cutting edge” ideas to raise the bar and grow further from for all. The interview with Ted Herman uploaded in 2019, for me seeing this 12 mths later, has so much powerful content for me to process, that was like “manna” that video. So I’m eager to follow/ see contemporary progress developments in new understandings/ techniques unfolding in your 2020 media and beyond into the future [ my own biggest personal inner-war, is sustaining goal-worth & value, I’m really fighting to be passionate, it’s hard to get back on that horse when you’ve been smashed so many times. And you talk about all this kinda stuff throughout your interviews/ media series - thank you hey ] --- unfortunately regarding today’s host, he really hasn’t shared any new material/ techniques; when I see his advertisements come up on the Internet, I just get an immediate sense he [ solely (or soulessly) ] makes his wealth by sucking people into paying for his courses and seminars Soz but he just comes across as a hype scammer. The fact that he tells you how to strategise a salary raise out of your employer, and then uses a similar psychological strategy to raise his personal businesses profile by saying “I have 40k positive written testimonies that my system works”, honestly feels like he is harvesting from eg 800k paying participants with 95% of his (lost) audience not even bothering with a genuine review - “tweaked” statistics. “I can make you rich *in 23 years when you’ve got a terminal illness and someone else benefits from the {$400k} you saved through self-deprivation except coffee & clothes, {meanwhile inflation sees the average house cost at $20mil but you can afford to rent forever}”. The saying goes “there’s lies and there’s statistics”, the only difference is how you use them From a psychological perspective, I find his “authoritive-command” type dialogue style interesting. Sometimes Ive seen “professionals” bluff and scam people’s attention just by confidently sounding knowledgeable ...I think there’s a uni degree for that called PR But what I’ve learned from you Tom, and other “rich” people (eg Oprah Winfrey) is the moral value of “love”/ agarpe etc love of fellow man and healthy self-love, as opposed to negative exploitation and stepping on people to unconscionable-greedily get your goal (accomplishment should be about the journey, achieving the goal is the bonus) As you don’t have time to read emails/ viewer comments, perhaps I just contributed this as a “journaling” exercise for myself lol “Stay legendary”!

Love this discussion of having clarity on the rich life. I spent so much of my life spending money on things that I didn’t care about because I felt guilty about spending money on things that I wanted. What a reversal! I’ve been changing my habits but hearing this here is helping to put it into words and making this tangible. Thank you!

When I first read Ramit's book I called my bank to renegotiate my fees and succeeded. It was the first time in my life I thought "I got this, I can manage my money". I'm still young, but since then all got better. No debt and every money my investments grow. I have a healthier relationship with money. I will be rich because now I think rich. So, thank you.

I love this show so much. I’ve been following Tom for a while and I don’t know why it never occurred to me that the beauty of this show is it’s on a public forum with a comment section so we can give and receive feedback. Right now I’m taking a course on public speaking. As an entrepreneur myself I want to reach out and support young entrepreneurs (under 30) in their journey. I want to give them the tools to get their first momentum and show them they can do it without sacrificing everything in the process. Don’t get that last part twisted. We all have to sacrifice a lot and I’ve done without a lot of things, but we still deserve to be happy.
