Wow, the most impactful interview yet for the stage I'm at: Let yourself and others feel the pain. Push your emotional agility through being vulnerable. Love others, but don't give a shit about what they think about you. Condition and training your mind through mindfulness/being in the present.

I agree with Siim Land on this. From my experience, it seems to me that mental and physical pain is completely unavoidable if you want to do anything worthwhile in life, but you have a choice whether or not you become a victim and suffer from the pain. You will experience the pain no doubt. But you can choose to feel sorry for yourself and cry, and be in misery and be a victim. Or you can experience the pain, and say OH YA, THAT'S GROWING PAIN, AND DAMN IT IS GOOD! Pain should become your good friend. Of course, it takes time and conditioning to gradually improve your ability to choose otherwise and stay in a good place, but it is completely valid and true.

At 27 minutes - yes. This is what I needed to understand about how my brain works. This is the lesson I've been looking for. I've thought for a while about training physically and how training increases lung capacity. But I haven't quite figured out how to train my "brain capacity" to handle strong emotions. I've also been trying to do a lot right now and I have a "fear of overwhelm" which causes me to take steps backward instead of forward in my goals. I want to train my brain to maximize my potential even when I feel overwhelmed by all that I'm doing. Thank you!

I have to say this is one of my favorite interviews, I got into Dr. Michael Gervais' podcast because a friend of mine completely changed his life in the last year. He attributed his mental change to Dr. Gervais, which got me listening to him immediately. And currently I've kind of hit rock bottom, or at least that is what it feels like to me in my career. It definitely has me in a very uncomfortable place, great to hear it's okay, and that it can be the driving force to get me to my goal. Thank you @Tom Bilyeu!

The interview has enough utility that i too like it. But I can easily think of reasons that people would dislike it (ratings wise). One reason would be a distaste for how he spoke about research articles on "mindfulness" becoming more numerous and somehow "proving" the validity of "mindfulness". However, as he himself says, meditation is a practice that is thousands of years old. Also, the practitioners from thousands of years ago were scientists themselves of the mind, therefore the research has already been done, the benefits are already known but the work was carried out by the Asian branches of the human family and not the Western branch; and the recorded results of the research lived, outlined and depicted in a way that is not the way of academic research. The results and investigations were recorded in organic religious practice, in stories/scripture, etc. To speak about the West carrying out its research on mindfulness/meditation as the "real" research is very problematic (to be polite about it). So, the above is just one reason to give a thumbs down, people being the complicated things that they are, we can expect that many more reasons (thoughtful reasons, not just dislike for the sake of dislike, or as you chose to put it, "so rude") exist for dislike of the video.

"Finding clarity in the mess and discovering life through a new lenz so you can live in abundance" is the foundation of my book "Hot Mess to toally blessed". Truth is I wouldn't have that book if I didn't go through the darkness. Im an avid believer that we can not know what Good is if we never go through the bad. We wouldn't know what bad is if we never experienced anything good. Im now in state of "knowing" that everything has a purpose and lesson for each of us. Pay attention to all the aigns. "Knowing thy self" first and getting clarity on who we are, why we act and react in all situations, and how we overcome, will be a reflection of our experience in this life. Tom did another great video! Loved this. My mind expanded and my heart felt appreciation. 💕❤ much love

This one surprised me quite a bit, I came expecting information on how to stay focused and efficient with time but left with so many jewels on fostering relationships. Job well done! I really enjoyed the section that got into Dr. Gervais marriage reconciliation when he discusses how to make those necessary deep conversations happen. Tom does a great job at hearing what the guest is coming to say, but then also making sure he finds something in their speech that makes it personally applicable to himself (and thus, the audience). I have yet again been introduced to another great leader out there in Dr. Gervais and will be leaving this will many more notes taken. -Isaiah Young

I have a 6 year old on the Autism spectrum that I try to teach mindfulness and controlling his thoughts, otherwise he is over run with anxiety. I understand it will take time with his age and Autism, but I do believe overtime, he will have better control and develop resilience to his overwhelming emotions. I sure hope you can get a program into schools. In Canada (BC specifically) they are teaching the Zones of Regulation and it is an excellent start. I think High school men, specifically, would really benefit primarily from your approach. Thank you for working hard at your purpose daily!

Full Context begins @7:30 @8:25 "A rising tide floats all boats" @9:13 "None of us do this thing alone, and if we're really gonna go the distance, and really step into the frontier to do the amazingly difficult challenging things, we need to lock arms to stay in the trenches long enough. And what happens for most people is we lock arms, we say, 'oh yeah, let's go get it,' and then we lock arms, and then as soon as it's hard, the brain kicks in, and the survival mechanisms in the brain are stronger than the thriving mechanisms. So the survival mechanisms light up, and what do we do? We save our own ass, and we unlock our arms, and we take care of ourselves. That is how people fray in rugged and stressful environments--emotionally stressful environments. We unlock. And so the extraordinary are able to stay the course, locked arms, because they're mission-minded, they're really clear about what they want to experience, and they bet on each other." Note to self: He's primarily talking about football, but can you carry this mindset to your intimate relationships? With family, friends, partners? Try it. See what happens.

Great interview! I’ve realised that everyone keeps referring back to the present moment. Every time I get very still I realise my thoughts are focused on past or future as in 24/7 all day long. Whenever I stop my thoughts continue. I’m now really learning how to detach from the thinking person and just be here. It’s actually fun catching myself when I fall out of the moment and go in my head. Thanks Tom 💖

THE BEST VIDEO YET. The BEST... Michael Gervais is SPOT ON... totally and completely. I am currently working on my Ted Talk for material that is similar, from my own life and professional experience and he just articulated it spectacularly. *wow, I am a huge fan suddenly!*

Being on a team, especially in sports, I think is one of the most valuable experiences as a human. I wish I could go back to being on my high school swim team!

I'm enjoying watching this so much! That comment about making decisions for both of us, rather than just me, locking arms through really challenging times, that was impactful for me.
