Son of a Mason here. I’m not a mason myself. From an outside perspective, it seems that the organization itself isn’t nefarious or anything. But what happens is that lodges end up aggregating people of similar interest, who usually end up working together to achieve their goals. Meaning that they’ll favour other masons in business dealings (or other dealings), sometimes at the detriment or exclusion of non-masons. It’s not totally unlike the orthodox jewish communities in that way : keep it in the community, whenever possible. I believe it’s those « clique » dynamics, combined with the mystique/esoterical elements that give the public the impression that the Masons are a nefarious sect.

@@flamingaroow59 As a Mason, I can honestly say that quite a few of the Greek fraternities have very similar structure in their initiation. We would let a few rent out the upper floor on occasion, and I was usually the one opening up and locking up the building for them, and was invited to have an honorary membership in some and observe the ceremony.

Hi! Mason under the Grand Lodge of Texas here. If you're still curious about joining, I think you're better off knocking on the door of a local lodge as opposed to sending an application online. Keep in mind that Masons are mostly older men who are a bit inexperienced online, but figuring out when the local lodge meets and showing up half an hour beforehand will generally make its members curious to know you. Just make sure beforehand it's an official lodge under the United Grand Lodge of England (there's quite a few fake lodges out there!)

Thanks for this video ❤ my dad is a mason. He hasn’t told me much about it but he said if I wanna know then I can find stuff online or join the group. He did tell me about some of the philosophy and symbolism of the masons as well as charity and philanthropy such as food drives, donations to hospitals, free mini-van rides for elderly and disabled and much more. Very misunderstood community. He’s been a member for a little less than 10 years. Since my stepmother had a stroke he has had to work more hours and take up more duties around the house, very stressful for him. Being able to go to lodge meetings and see his friends is so good for him

My grandparents were in the masons, and from what my dad told me, a lot of the activities were indeed based around philanthropy, charity, and being involved in the community. It's worth noting that there are actually side-organizations that allow women to join. So while my grandpa was a member of the Freemasons, my grandma was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Their list of notable female members includes a lot of pioneering writers, educators, physicians, and nurses, including Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross. A number of the women on the list were lawyers and politicians in the late 19th and early 20th century.

This is still true to this day. We have masons in the community and they mostly do charity work. You'll see they're masons with the symbol at the back of their car. They are most likely from a rich/noble family who is also descendants of freemasons. Fun fact! our national hero (Jose Rizal) is also a Freemason.

Mason here… thank you the the honest approach… you were super close. Point of clarity, it’s not for the upper class. The brothers of my lodge span all classes and careers…which is the point. All masons view each other as equal, titles, careers, and awards are irrelevant. Second point, I was concerned about the men only aspect at first, because I didn’t understand. This is the first time in my life where I’ve been comfortable being vulnerable with men, have found support, and fellowship. Men should be allowed to have a place to feel safe as well.

My grandfather was a freemason. He died before I was born, so I don't know much about him. I did find some pictures of him in masonic ritual uniforms and stuff. Always thought it was a bit weird that grown men would congregate and wear silly robes and hold scepters and such. And definitely they do not rule the world, I doubt a mid-century Greek dentist was part of an international secret elite government. They seem exactly like you said, a self-help and social club with a bit more fanfare and medieval aesthetics

my (still very much alive and well) grandfather is a Mason and a previous Worshipful Master here in the PH. like you said, it's basically just a self-help old men's club that does philanthropy, talks about how governance and administration should be as well as hold small feasts or celebrations for members and their personal accomplishments and even provide financial help for those in dire straits or have medical problems

@@chadwellington2524 if you want a perspective from a victim, one you won't find otherwise, the "hands-on" "masonry" is to be situated for influence, eg. the friends you had in school who seemed to know people wherever they went, or know all the cool stuff ahead of time, or the manager at the grocery store who knows everyone (and leaves you a flyer on your motorcycle), then the actual work is influence, maybe just to be a s.o.b and screw folks up. then there's the whole 3am thing (see my video..) masonry is being the guy on the ground but as a social influencer. the experience of being a mason is very different depending on where you live, eg. masons in rutral france or australia may thik of themselves as noble, masons in urban arizona are going to fcku a lot and get a lot of weed. this is all from firsthand experience. ftr, nonmasons are littles/lillies/lias - a term which seems to indicate subordinacy, also used for women.

Another legitimate function of secret societies is that they allow young, ambitious people to form social bonds with older, successful people, and allow those older people to pass their knowledge and social connections down to the next generation. This is a legitimately useful function; running large organizations and governments is far from an easy job, and one that depends a lot on getting along with and cooperating with other people in similar positions. Society works a lot better if your leaders are properly trained, and if they like each other enough to cooperate. That's not something you can really create a university degree for, and if you tried you'd probably have far more people with the degree than positions to fill. For example, the Skull and Bones society often organizes meetings between current members and powerful former members like George W Bush. If you're a member, you get to have dinner with Bush and get personalized advice and assistance in your political ambitions. Or at least, it used to be that way up until a few years ago when some Skull and Bones members used it as an opportunity to express their political disagreements with Bush to his face. Bush and other alumni have since stopped participating in such dinners. These secret societies aren't what they used to be.

I get where you're coming from with the social networking aspect of secret societies, but I disagree with some of your other points. Good doctrines, beliefs, and practices benefit more people when they are more available. The world would be a better place with an excess of qualified people competing for leadership positions than it would be with a lack of qualified individuals, who only get the job because of their connections. Additionally, healthy organizations have room for dissent. If members can't publicly disagree with each other, you wind up with an echo chamber. Without new ideas the organization stagnates. There's also an unfortunate precedent for secret societies (and similar fraternal organizations) to shield the criminal behavior of thier members in order to protect the good name of the society. I believe that secret societies can be beneficial when run correctly (especially when it comes to charitable causes), however, that requires a level of accountability that's difficult to maintain without transparency or outside criticism.

First time commenter and new avid watcher of your videos here, I'd like to add a thing or two just to clarify: it is not so that there is 1 Grand Lodge that controls all others, they're actually quite independent, but can work together; like a confederacy. Also, the bad reputation of Freemasonry can indeed be traced back to the Pope and his stance against Masonry, but his stance was a bit unnuanced: there were certain lodges in the southern of Italy that turned radical and had ties with such radical groups, the Pope got notice of this and decided that *all* Masonry is to be denounced. I hope this helped a bit :) I really enjoy your videos and hope youre doing well!

@theotheratticus Hear hear. Of course, Popes down the ages cannot ever announce that Pope Clement got it wrong about us...as that would destroy the concept of papal infallibility.

I became a Master Mason around 2010. A few years later, I went through the 32nd Degree in Scottish Rite. I would say that Masonry is about Brotherhood and Growth. Lots of comparative religion with Kabbalah and Christian themes for context. I'm always happy to fellowship with my brothers. I've made some great friends. Maybe it's a particular type of guy who gets attracted to this. I've never heard brothers look down on non-members... My Lodge accepted me, and I don't come from high-class. Personally, I think a lot of the ritual is based on Christian grace... The great thing is that brothers are allowed to read what they want to in the ritual. It's not a cult.

Gatekeeping is literally the point. A group of people with financial power and connections make an exclusive list of who they consider like them, let only those people in a club, and then everyone in the club favors club members. That's literally what they are, not just a protective trait they have. They may not be some huge conspiracy running the world, but they're clearly a bunch of groupish dicks.

Freemasonry is a Fraternity- of men, fellowshipping to be better men. Women have no direct function in that relationship. If you ever hang around a lodge you'll see that their wives are very important and share in forms of activity that reflect honor, but Lodge itself is a "fraternal" activity.

I know a freemason. When I was in rehab I met an amazing man, named Mark. He was about 55-60, I was 22-23, memory still isn't perfect yet. When i wanted to go into extended care, I was told it would be $3,500, and I was a broke addict, I talked about it with mark and a couple days later he has over $2,000 he tried to give me in order to help pay for it. He told me he was apart of a group called freemasons, and his group was dedicated to raising and keeping money on reserve for anyone they unanimously deemed "worthy" of helping. While I was extremely thankful, I turned him down. I still love Mark, we talk sometimes. At the time, and to this day unfortunately, his son is in a state pen for doing drugs, and killing someone on a motorcycle because he passed out while driving. Mark and I grew close, and he ended up sharing all of this with me, and continued to over our time together. He told me he saw me as a son, and would do anything he could to help me, as I had helped him cope with the atrocity of losing his son. Thankfully, my extended care actually ended up being fully paid by my insurance because they believed me when I said I never wanted to be an addict again. However, Mark ended up going to EC as well, just so that we could go through it together, support one another. I will never forget that man, we keep in touch at least once a year. I like to check in and make sure he's still able to visit his son, and feel as though even if he can't raise his son, he can help raise me. It's something that brought him joy and hope. One of the greatest men I have ever met. One day, after we were both out of rehab, we saw each other at a meeting and he asked me if I would want to join his group os Mason's. I actually turned him down, I have plans for my future and they include such work, but I didn't find myself worthy to accept such an amazing offer. Every now and then, he'll ask me again, but I just don't believe I could ever be the kind of amazingly kind human being, not like him. I'm too broken for that, at least currently. I know it's an amazing opportunity and for him to invite me was an honor. However, I just can't. I don't deserve to be IMO. One day, I hope to prove to both myself and to him that I am worthy, but thus far - I just don't think I'm ready to put the goodness of others over my own. BIG shout out to you sir, I will always have you in my heart. Thanks for reading, just thought I could give my two cents on this enigmatic, and amazingly kind group.

You should really consider joining and getting involved in charities we do, theres tons of stuff that the community can participate (fun stuff too!) And for nonmasons to have fun and do good for people and organizations that need it most, masons have the largest non profit childrens hospitals and old folks care units and homes.. masonry changed my life.

Freemason here. Freemasons never think that they are the perfect ashlar. That is something that we should strive.

I’m an actual Freemason (as well as a longtime subscriber) and there’s quite a bit of unintentional misinformation here. A lot of it would be too difficult to explain to outsiders and frankly kind of dull details and such, so I’m going to discuss the thing that bothers me the most. You seem to have a fixation on the class distinctions in the fraternity; that the membership is largely upper class and elite and is a means of upward mobility. I’m Canadian, so my experience comes from my country, but my experience has been the opposite-it’s actually quite a working class organization. When I was first initiated the Master (president) of the lodge worked in a feedlot; the guy that came after him was a neurosurgeon; the guy that came after him was a heavy duty mechanic; the guy that came after him sold mutual funds. We come from all walks of life and one of our biggest core tenets is equality and the erasure of class within the lodge. The symbol of the level is to show that no one brother is higher or lower than another. In your tour of the Grand Lodge building, you may have seen lots of men with gloves-that’s a distinctly English tradition as it hides the dirt on the hands of labourers so that you can’t tell who’s a lawyer and who’s a bricklayer. You are correct, however, that the Facebook pages of charity drives and awful cartoons is 100% accurate of the average masonic experience. At the end of the day, we’re just a bunch of guys that like to drink scotch, talk about philosophies of life, and try to make the world a little bit better than how we found it. We vet our candidates so cautiously because we want to find passionate men who will show up every month and contribute to the community rather than kick the tires and ditch after a year. That said, I enjoyed the video; I love hearing outsiders and their opinions because it reminds me of when I too was an outsider knocking on the door of the lodge (in your case, literally).

Are you aware of the true architecture of the universe? Do you honestly feel that the Grand Architect of the Universe created only this place with life out of every single other planet, galaxy, and universe? There is more life in one drop of ocean water than there is in any of these places. I have known freemasons who didn't propagate flat earth; but they did agree on some points... the lie of the heliocentric model. These same people just happened to rise in popularity as the same time as the original Illuminati? I'd say that's pretty good timing. Situational Design.

My grandpa was a Mason when he was still alive - as far as my mum and my grandma were concerned it was just a way for him to hang out with his friends, go on trips with them and make business connections - he worked in technology for a bunch of different companies in the 70s. Thanks for this video! It’s pretty refreshing to get this perspective on such a muddied conspiracy theory. Thinking that groups like these are particularly more powerful or scheming than any other charitable body with political connections, is pretty damaging to people I think

It's only logical to assume people claiming to be a "Secret Society" that afford their members privileged access to people of power and exclusive networking capacities would use those privileges to perpetuate their own self interest. A conspiracy is two or more people working together in secret for a common goal. It's really far more dangerous to shoot down these notions without any real critical thought or scholarly scrutiny.

As a Freemason, a Past Master of my home Lodge, District Deputy Grand Master, and having known several Grand Masters in my 20+ years in the Fraternity I'll say what I tell most anyone interested in joining: 1) there's a LOT of garbage out on the internet about the Masons that is wrong 2) there is a LOT of stuff on the internet about the Masons that is far too GOOD (the "secret" stuff...) 3) anyone who has watched a Lodge attempt to plan a pancake breakfast or public supper will IMMEDIATELY know that we aren't trying *"to take over the world"*... To say that they have somewhat a control over the world might be true but I don't think they're nefarius. Further more, a majority of catholic exorcists in my country also have the same coins they seldom call "Runes" in our mother-tongue, so I don't think they're evil in any way. "Runes" is also what we call relics that aren't even related to them but has a long history/mythology of protecting our countrymen, so I don't think we're necessarily evil.

You could apply this same logic to anything. If I said christianity is evil and i said "Its because the devil wants you think it is good" would that actually give you any real wisdom or truth? No. Just ignorance, confusion and more discord. If I said, "Islam is evil because the devil wants you to think it is good." would that actually be truthful? Probably not. You can apply this simple statement to any religion or thing you disagree with to justify your hate towards it, thereby allowing more ignorance and discord to grow from it. Freemasons are not evil, the world has taught you that they are evil, so will you listen to the world and allow them to tell you what to believe or will you talk to a Mason and ask him yourself? It is much easier to believe in a lie than to go out and talk to a fellow human being and initiate dialogue. Free thinkers love to think freely, unless you decide to think outside their box, then you become an enemy to them. The truth is in front of you, so will you learn to think for yourself or will you let the world decide what is true and what is false for you?

I think 'gatekeeping' is an important part of personal freedom. Being welcomed somewhere should be a privilege, not a right . As a long-time member of the Fraternity, your curiosity (and that of any others) is completely welcome! I am agnostic, and had somewhat struggled with the religious overtones of the Craft. But as the goal of Masonry is that of self-improvement, I came to understand that it's not necessarily the Judeo-Christian concept of God which is paramount, but the ideal of a higher potential, a sense of ultimate morality and thus finding the best within yourself and your Brother (and humanity as a whole). Therefore, it's meant to be a constant source of self-reflection and hopefully improvement...it's is a journey, and not a destination, one where the rewards are equal to the effort you put into what the Fraternity means to you. :)

As a Mason, I can tell you that being an Atheist will stop your becoming a Mason. Atheist are not admitted, and lying to be able to become one is not good.

Master Mason here.. I’m 35 a family man. It took me several years to become a master. I co-sign this video and thank you for making one that she’s a positive light on the fraternity. I too joined to find out the “secrets” and quickly realized it’s a bunch of old guys raising money for kids. I’ve learned a lot and the world needs this. It’s makes good guys better men.

I got to go inside of a masonic lodge with my ex's mom because she needed a helper. Women aren't allowed in the freemasons because they have Eastern Star. They meet in the same building, at least in Boulder, Colorado. I got to rummage all over - in the kitchen, the closets, the bathrooms, the sitting areas, and even the actual podium in the big meeting chamber. They literally just do charity all year lmao

many masons and eastern star members (my grandparents are both members) really just do hold charity events, parties and go for occasional slot machine parlor trips as old people who are bored do. in fact, a large majority of them are devout Catholics.

You won't know freemasonry by joining it. Most membes are not "in the know", even many at the highest ranks. Albert Pike, a freemason of the Scottish rite, explains everything in his writings. A member "in the know" may be told the same thing as any other member, but they know how to interpret different phrases and symbols. At its core, freemasonry is a Hermetic religious order for the study & practice of High Magick. Sure, it may serve as a social club like all religious groups do, but that's more of a side effect. Many workplaces have social events, or donate to charities, but that's not the reason employees go to work.

Pike's influence on Freemasonry is grossly overstated. He did revise the degree ritual of the Scottish Rite but his revisions aren't even used in the second largest Scottish Rite jurisdiction (centered around new england) and in the rest of the US his degrees have been amended and altered slightly where it was thought appropriate, he wasn't the be-all end-all of Masonry even in his own day. Most of Pikes writings have been completely forgotten and few Masons ever read them. They aren't hidden, they just aren't relevant. The Scottish Rite existed before Pike and it will continue to exist long after his influence has been forgotten. It's funny that you say Freemasonry is for the practice of Magick when it was Aleister Crowley's obsession with the occult that made the British Masonic lodges refuse to admit him as a member and publicly denounce him. Crowley wrote a scathing review of Masonry at the time that he founded the OTO talking specifically about how they weren't interested in Magick and that was why a new organization needed to be made.

Also, Christian denominations denounce each other all the time yet they claim to worship the God of the Bible. Lodges denounce each other too. This doesn't really say anything as to whether they were Hermetic or not. If anything, they denounced Crowley for being public about them. Think of how much knowledge we have about the Magick fraternities like the Rosicrucian thanks to Crowley. Obviously a traditional Hermeticist who believed in secrecy would not be happy with his secret beliefs being publicized to everyone.

My grandfather used to be a Free Mason. He mentioned this to me while we were at an event that happened to have the Free Masons symbol in one of the walls. He said they do have a lot of secrecy and require members to host meetings in their houses, require presence in all meetings and demanded too much time and dedication from them. He also said they are divided in "tiers". Also, when you see someone bearing the free masons symbol, be it a sticker on their car, a pin on their clothing or anything else, they are considered brethren and, If one of them needs help with anything, you, as a member, are required to assist. It turns out my grandfather isn't known for his patience and eagerness to socialize, so he left the group. Funny that he still refuses to go into detail about their meetings and rituals. He's catholic, by the way.

I asked why and he said that's always been the rule (I'm not sure if he elaborated on that, it's been a few years since this conversation happened). So I assume the sexist custom from the 13th century has been carried over through the generations.

My dad had a very similar experience. He didn't want to be bothered and quit... and for a loooooong time they called our house A LOT asking where he was, when he was coming back, ect. It was so annoying.... like an obsessive ex. My dad still doesn't talk about it, though. He got pretty high up quickly because they were SO impressed by his talent of being able to memorize stuff so quickly and accurately. But you're right, they demand SOOO much time and attention from their member, it is absurd. It's certainly a cult... they're just not up to anything bad (that I know of, lol) Struck me as a cult of a bunch of middle age and old men with nothing actually productive/exciting going on, so they needed something to do and someone to tell them to do good things... its weird, but weird as in odd but boring, not weird scary.

Hopefully you continue with pursuing freemasonry. I am WM of Ephrata Masonic lodge in Pennsylvania. One of the things I always tell people inquiring to join, is that we are the worst kept “secret” society in history. A lot of points in the video are close, and I wholeheartedly encourage you to keep on this path. Freemasonry has taught me many values, and has taught me how to conduct myself as a better man. A couple of things to point out, symbols are used a lot. The reason behind this is that a lot of our ancient brethren could not read or write back in the day, 1300’s and before, and used pictures instead. But congratulations on starting the journey, and look forward to hearing more on your journey!

@@_DeadBeat_ As a Mason myself, I can tell you that Albert Pike was just one guy. He had some very interesting views on the topic, but nobody is an authority on Freemasonry. Morals and Dogma, written by Pike, is an interesting read. I would also recommend "The Meaning of Masonry" by W L Wilmhurst if you're looking for a deeper exploration of masonic ritual and themes. Just be warned that there are some potential spoilers for the ceremonies in it which might ruin the experience if you ever wanted to join!

My dad was a freemason (but were in the US.) He moved up VERY fast because they loved his gift of being able to memorize things very quickly and very well, its a gift I wish I would have gotten lol. But something happened and he no longer wanted to be a part of it... he stopped going... and these people would call our house a LOT asking where he was and to talk to him. It was so desperate and weird... Idk what they do, i don't know why my dad wanted to leave... It was probably more typical drama than any kind of craziness... But I remember as a kid my mom picking up the phone, telling them my dad wasn't there while he was in the next room avoiding them, lmao. It was really weird...

My good man, I am a little bit more than certain that the Mason's fb page (lol that that was your port of call) is intentionally public, in the same way that the Masonic subreddit is - it attracts curiosity. I can absolutely, unequivocally assure you that what is written on a public forum regarding Masonry is quadruple checked, and even before that the author in question will always have his obligations at the forefront of his mind before positing anything that might be read by the profane or cowans. Don't think we're so stupid as not to consider that others are intensely curious about us.

I'm a master mason in a lodge in Pennsylvania. If you ever find yourself stateside, I am happy to get a couple of Masons together to grab beers with you and talk about Free Masonry. You seem to understand it from this video, and I appreciate that you didn't show ritual or anything else that would be disrespectful. In Europe, it's said that they are secretive because of the WWII "purge" the Nazis went through. There was lists of freemasons available at the local hometown, so the SS just had to check it and take anyone on that list (yes, Nazis believed that freemasons were on their way to rule the world too). Since then, there is no obligation to tell anyone that you're in the society.

There are lodges that require application fees, initiation fees, ritual fees, dinner fees, lodge maintenance, charities, and dues. In North America you cannot invite someone that's correct. I believe in the Philippines they require hefty application fees (which can also be waived) just to even have a vote cast on you, and due to this being an impoverished country it definitely feels selective and invite only.

I worked with a few freemasons at my former job. I wasn't religous but was interested in the esoteric and had thought to join them, but my interactions with them was not the most pleasant. I don't know what degree they were, but they both liked to wear the merch and had the compass and square on their license plates. They were really into it, but acted like it made them superior to everyone else. I showed one of them some of my digital art, and they said "anyone can do digital art". Kind of a put down. That probably isn't representative of the whole group, but I think some guys join to put themselves on a pedestal rather than for self improvement. Also, the fact that women still aren't allowed to join is very odd to me. Today I view them as an exclusive club for wealthy men to larp as masters of society, but that's based on my limited experience with them.

The problem is you tried to join the free masons. It’s not until you join the DLC Masons that you unlock the really juicy paid content.

great video. My only complaint is painting it as an "upper-class gentleman's club". At my local lodge, most of the members are middle-class men, though I suppose that's just due to the demographics of the area. As for women not being members, there are several affiliate organizations here in the states that allow both genders (eastern star being The Big One), the two of the three major youth organizations (job's daughters and the rainbow girls) are women-only, and some grand lodges allow female members (but that is a very contested topic oh boy). That's all for the US though, so YMMV.

One thing I also want to point is that, every organisation has rituals, but few still call them such. The point of rituals really is to form a common culture among all members from the get-go and is the foundation of any successful and long-lasting organisation. They may be weird, but few are actually illegal or reprehensible. So while some may connect certain rituals to the supernatural etc., how they’re executed/administered is really very human, and more often than not, humane.

It's tricky when talking about what Masons believe since there is no official Masonic credo, nor is it really a self-help program with something equivalent to the Twelve Steps as a means of achieving some kind of spiritual awakening. I know Masons who are evangelical Christians, others who are Thelemites, others who are new-agers, and others for whom the Great Architect is basically the laws of physics. There's no Masonic literature that has the weight of scripture, nor does any Mason or Masonic organization have the right to dictate to another Mason what specific beliefs they should hold about anything, religious or secular, or how they should express those beliefs. Those are matters of individual conscience.

This is absolutely hilarious, how do seemingly intelligent people like yourself completely misunderstand the very simple word 'secret'. You didn't even reach the field where the rabbit hole presides, let alone journey down it.

@@GhostGamer123Ghost thank you for representing your faith well. I'm a buddhist, and use the word God to mean the pattern of the universe, but resonate with the Christian mystics quite a bit. The world would be a nicer place if we recognized we're all made from the same stuff, and there can be lessons of value in every faith that don't require we join them

So, what I took from this is that the Freemason is basically like nothing more than a/the Rotary Club, but with a dash of mystery(?) and intrigue.

Not really. Certainly, the value Freemasonry place upon charity is similar to Rotary. But Freemasonry also prides itself on education and pursuing personal excellence. This is what distinguishes it from charitable organisations.

Every Podunk town has a lodge. The average age of a member is 75. Most of them can barely manage Facebook, if they even know what it is. You can go talk to any of them whenever you want.

My grandfather recently passed and I got to see a mason funeral ceremony because he was a high degree mason. It was a very interesting ceremony but definitely didn’t seem like anything sinister. And it was all about god.

@@tylerramos7633 He was a member of the Scottish Rite- which is a little bit different than Masons. It’s a Masonic organization, but the highest rank you can achieve purely as a Mason is Master (which takes about 6 months to get in most lodges).

There are good elements to the idea, such as helping your fellow man and looking out for their family if they aren't able to. A mutual aid society. I think there may be more problems when this leads to excluding those who aren't in the club. Dressing up is fun, though. Thank you for a great video!

I'm not saying this to say that there is 100% more than what meets the eye, but a lot of people need to remember that there are 33 degrees of masonry. A lot of people will say, "My grandpa was a Freemason, and he seemed normal. He wasn't trying to rule the world. They just did charity work," but he was probably pretty low in the order. The conspiracy goes that freemasonry is built like a pyramid. The vast majority of its six million members are fairly low-level, with little awareness of its actual motives and beliefs. Those trying to establish the new world order exist at the highest degrees. Again, I'm not saying this to say the conspiracy theory is true, just to say that your own personal anecdotes aren't really constructive in dismantling the theory.

I grew up close to a freemason lodge but I was always scared to go in there and ask to join, thanks for making this video and satisfying my curiosity!

That was fun! I really enjoyed the more hands-on approach, like going to the HQ of the Freemasons!

Younger freemason here. Pretty much hit the nail on the head. Although I have no issue with the exclusivity aspect. I find it funny people promote exclusivity until a group is successful or prosperous and then it needs to not be exclusive. And as much as people don't want to say it these days, men and woman are different. Not better or worse than each other, but different. And honestly it provides a place for men to meet and support each other in a unique dynamic.

As a Freemason myself and having a family of Freemasons, I have to say that I enjoyed this video! There was nothing I disliked about it, but also some, but very few, things that I couldn't help but not agree with. I love that there was an acknowledgment of the conspiracies; they are hilarious to observe now that I understand the esoteric beliefs. Your summary at the end was good, but it should be added that the Freemasons are "divided" per se; There are Ancient Free and Accepted Masons and the Free and Accepted Masons. The ancient ones are more classical, rigid in their beliefs, and not so open to newer ideas. Then the Free and Accepted Masons (more modern essentially) have a wider tolerance for things I have learned in my experience. My family was AF&AM, and they moved when I was younger to Florida, which is F&AM. I was initiated a year to the day that I went into a coma from an overdose, went through the Degrees of the Blue Lodge, where I got my Third Degree of Master Mason. I have overall become a better Man but have also learned a lot about Freemasonry, such as the fact that there are female Freemasons, not just Eastern Star, that Freemasons were also persecuted during the Holocaust, that appended bodies such as the Shriners exist, and that there are two different Rites to go into after you get your Master Mason Degree which are the York and Scottish Rites. York Rite includes the Knights Templar, which I am excited to get to. But also, both of these Rites can go up to 32nd Degree, with an honorary 33rd Degree, and nobody is viewed as "higher ranking" or "better" than any other Freemason; instead, they view each other as equals regardless of your Degree. I have had nothing but good experiences and lessons learned from being a Freemason; I have helped others in Lodge, my local church, and college while getting the support and assistance that made a difference for me. Being a recovering addict to cocaine, opiates, and benzodiazepines is hard enough; however, having my Brothers regularly check on me and let me know that they care and that I can keep it going has been a game changer for me. I am now top of my class in college, I have goals and aspirations, my future looks bright, and most importantly, I am sober. You only get what you put in with Freemasonry; nothing is handed to you. "You only get what you put in". That's exactly what my grandfather told me when I joined. I've not been involved with my local lodge in a few years, but I can definitely say that my time I spent with them was nothing short of amazing. The brotherhood and sense of comradery is amazing. Me and my other Mason buddy always told people it was just a bunch of old white guys talking when they'd ask about our meetings.

@@chadwellington2524 no, we help eachothers families, and my family has Brothers in it, so because of our obligations and things we value, they assisted my family when I was in my coma; just as I would do for any of them.

If the symbols and rituals don’t mean anything deeper, then why have them? Or the fact that one prerequisite to join is believing in a higher power that explicitly isn’t the Christian God. Which one is it then? Only if you’re blind to the importance of the spiritual world and the true meaning of satanism you would come to the conclusion there wasn’t anything nefarious going on with this extremely secretive and influential organisation.

I think even most people who have no idea can tell that freemasonry is a country club for old dudes who help each other out over non-members.. Ok but what about when we are talking about people at the top of society who have influence?? Only dealing with other masons and sabotaging non-masons could be a big deal

The symbols were primarily used to explain things to the people around the time of 1300's that couldnt read, so using symbols was a way to explain things easier.

You've got it wrong on this one - many rites actually demand that the candidate for initiation be Christian.

I’m a fourth generation master mason it’s one of the best accomplishments of my life thus far

My uncle is a freemason, and he's shared stuff with me. Their meetings are actually really dull and uninteresting, just secret for the sake of privacy and tradition. He never told me about the rituals but they don't seem to be anything that different than Congress taking the Pledge of Allegiance every day - just repeating some wordsalad. He said most of the time they just hang out and talk about typical guy stuff like sports (they had a Fantasy Football League, apparently) with some snacks. It's just a place to socialize and mingle for a few hours after the obligatory rituals. This might just be the branch he's part of (he's American, from Kansas specifically) but if it was originally more esoteric it's long since abandoned that. Put another way, the Cult of Scientology has a ton of secrets and yet we know they do a ton of bad shit. If the Freemasons were doing anything that actually mattered we would absolutely know they were, even if we didn't know the specifics. I'm not sure I'd describe the freemasons as actually wholesome since I imagine most of what they do is just to dodge taxes but they are mostly harmless.

G’day, while I admit some meetings are repetitive it is nice to hang out with other guys who share the same interests. It’s very nerdy. We are not a religious organisation rather we believe in a supreme being of some description. We most certainly pay taxes.

My mother's father was a Freemason in Austin, Texas. According to her, women were not allowed to join or even attend the meetings, but they were allowed into the masonic logde afterwards for the complementary Freemason Spaghetti Dinners. Unfortunately, my grandfather had left the Freemasons by the time I was born, so I was unable to get that Freemason spaghetti.
