To be fair so is the one purpose! No laws for 24 is a terrible idea. One that also realistically would end with someone who works for the military bombing several cities

The most believable part of the Purge is the fact politicians would rather seak a way overcomplicated solution with a lot of implications on the long run than actually just work on the problem.

Don't forget, the doorframes/windows and the likings are not reinforced at all. You can 100% build something like that to be very durable but instead of you know the wealthiest guy that could have that done for his family has duct taped the metal sheets onto it. Also a sentry gun or automated defense is difficult. Only if you want to stick around however. If you just like duct tape a motion sensor onto an aa12 and a bunch of motors and then hide in the panic room to God knows not set off the sentry then that would be pretty fucking lethal. And turret on roof is a nice idea but you would have to leave the house and could get shot. But the best thing they could have possibly done but didn't: Leave the fucking USA. Grab your bajillion dollars, buy a house in idk, Denmark or so and live a happy safe life. Where I'm from the only people on the streets at night are drunk people. This movie was so dumb that I had to watch it and I found it even dumber afterwards. But I would 100% want an automated turret. I would definately mount a naval cannon on my roof and watch whatever decides to annoy me evaporate XD

Bypassing the clear mental disorders that everyone has in this film, specially the family, giving people a day to purge is just a battle royale between mad people. The only outcome you get out of this is that at the end of the purge you won't have less criminals, just more prepared and trained ones that have basically trained themselves on the normal people that tried to be a criminal.

No... I can almost guarantee you'd have LESS criminals, because many of the criminals are going to kill each other and many criminals are going to be killed by non-criminals. I suspect the major phenomenon would be what we saw in part: people choosing to participate forming large gangs so no finesse is really required due to overwhelming firepower.

When you find out most murder in the US is between family members, you realize that the purge wouldn't result in bands of strangers killing one another. It would be families taking the opportunity to off that brother or whatever they really hated. In which case these defenses wouldn't really help.

The reason for in family murders is easily explained though. They tend to happen in affection, meaning something made a family member snap and murder the other in the heat of the moment. They are after all living together most of the time. On a night where murders are LEGAL, this logic wouldn't apply. Every killing is premeditated and motivated by something other than a "heat of the moment event". I also want to point out that most murders, sexual assaults and beatings happen between people that know each other. It's not just a family thing. That's what makes serial killers hard to catch, they don't tend to know their victims so there's no connections. And a few serial killers do it completely random, not connected to a local area or certain type of victim. Those are the ones that are the hardest to catch and some have gotten away with it.

@@RealCadde Family is mostly a so called "heat of the moment" murder, but so is most murder in general. However of the more premeditated kind of murder, family members again lead. The fact of the matter is that for most murders to happen, you need to have compelling motives. Those motives are most likely to arise with people you know, the more closely known the more likely. They are just a lot less likely to happen between strangers.

When I first heard the concept of the purge, I thought there would be much more shoplifting and robbing banks rather than murdering strangers for ‘stress relievers’. The more I looked into it I did suspect that people murdered strangers for overpopulation. Still, even when I thought about the murder I thought it would have been with abusive relatives or anything around that circle of reasons. Also how did the leader just shoot the stranger? Did he just get no recoil when he fired? Or is he just so tough that he doesn’t get affected by laws of physics? God I hate questions with no answers

such a shame that such an amazing concept for a movie could be executed so poorly

I hate in horror movies when they have 1 character who is just so much more likeable than the rest, who actually has common sense, who isn't a coward and they kill that person off for effect. Im glad you clowened on this movie, the purge series as a whole is the most confusing, agrivating, and mentally deficient universe i think I've ever seen. They expect us to believe that ALL crime is legal, and the only thing people do with that is go hunt down random people like they're the Doomslayer rolling through hell? Hell nah, you know if this ever happened irl, thered be so many random bs crimes going on, like man this one night you can do any drug you want, steal nice cars off lots and drive as fast as you want. Why does everybody turn into murder maniacs, it doesn't make sense.

It did seem like the next couple of movies and the show tried to make explanations for things after people kept poking holes into the premise. "Alternate universe where common sense doesn't exist" is pretty accurate.

To everyone who hasn't seen the movie: The real reason why The Purge became a thing was actually for population control, specifically to cut down the homeless and poverty rate. This movie isn't very good, obviously, but to be fair, it is for much better reasons than "letting out stress". Personally, I would have made this movie about a lower class family that can't just leave the country. I also would have made it so that most killing/robbing being done, was done by people the victims knew (since that's how it is in real life).

I would've made this movie about how all the middle class families get together to tactically strategize how to maximize their financial situation on that day via insider trading tips and tax evasion schemes. Nobody would have locked anything down because they would have no motivation to murder each other because most people don't. And a few of them would be armed just to ensure they could repel anyone who would attack. Nobody would, of course, because predation isn't successful if you attack people who can easily end you, so it'd be largely uneventful. The sequel would involve a 19 year old that gets it on with his 15 year old girlfriend because statuatory laws wouldn't apply. Then they'd continue their committed relationship afterwards anyway, although the parents would disapprove, nobody would be murdered because again, most people don't want that on their consciences. These movies would be extremely celebrated obviously for how accurate they are.

When I have watched this movie some years ago, I could not help but to feel like the script is made by someone who has randomneness in his DNA and all he can think about is: "AND THEN, AND THEN, AND THEN,..." The plot for the theme of the movie, the purge, could have been absolutely different and so so so much better...

The brain cells in this movie amounted to one all shared by the family making 1/4 for each member and as the movie progressed it kept on splitting and splitting making it smaller.

This movie was basically just kid vincent killing his family unintentionally

The thing that upset me about the movies is that they make it legal to do anything, and literally everybody goes straight to murdering everyone. Nobody thinks that they would like a new car or jewellery or anything, nope, lets get to the killing. Its just kinds weird. Saying that everyone given the chance will straight up devolve into serial killers.
