I had high hopes for the PSVR2 on the PS5. I was immediately disappointed when it was announced that the PS5 would not support 3D Blu-Rays, something that was implemented in the PS4 and worked on the PSVR1. It was also announced that the PSVR1 games would not be compatible with the PSVR2. Whoever was in charge of the PSVR2 and PS5 dropped the ball big time. It could have been so much more than the previous generation instead they cut out features and games. I ended buying the Quest 3 and have used it daily. I can watch 3D movies, and a wide variety of games. I regret buying my PSVR2.

Sony really has a thing for not including all the cables. No joke, after all that marketing hype of full 1080p and HDMI support for the PS3, they didnt include the HDMI cable at launch, just the regular video cable 😑. I guess some things never change.

They never wanted to bring PSVR 2 over to the PC platform. But because it can't sell more than 10 units they have no choice. As usual they're depending on the PC audience to actually buy and support their products. With actual money and not fan boy words on Twitter.

Sounds like Sony's intent behind this is NOT to actually enter the PC VR market, but instead just a move to give PS VR users access to more content. Ie they can't or won't make enough VR games themselves so this is their easy low effort solution to make good for all the people that bought PSVR2. If so, that's very disappointing.

So Blunty I genuinely ask this as someone debating getting a PS VR2 after this. With the current $450 sale ($100 off), I see this as an easy way to upgrade both my HTC Vive and PS VR into one unit. I have waited a long time and debated the index for a very long time. However, after looking at specs, I felt the PS VR2 is a good value as a PC headset and PS headset. I have no desire to go through the Quest line due to Meta. I already have been in bed with Sony for quite a long time so it's a bit late there, but if I can avoid Meta, I will. So I genuinely ask, what do you recommend? To me I don't feel at $450+$60 adapter (I have plenty of DP cables) is that bad. This matches near the Meta Quest 3. The cable does not bother me, though wireless is always a plus. Just curious on your opinion there. To me Meta Quest 3 is similar (but better) in specs at $500, the Index is older, but at $750 with controllers plus headset and I am not aware of many other options. So any advise is appreciated and I bet I am not the only other person wondering after watching the video. PS. This is all in USD, just did not want to type that each time. Regards!

Buy the quest 3.... I had this same dilemma until I get this announcement... Without eye tracking and adaptive triggers this is not worth it. If you have a PS5, well than I say it can have more value for you, if not, I don't see how this is a good deal having no features that makes it better than the other headsets...

The most disappointing aspect is the lack of HDR. Sure, all of the other bells and whistles not coming are disappointing, but again, no HDR is wild to me. That really really sucks. It worked so well, that when you looked up at the sun in some titles, you kinda had to look away. The range of colors, the blinding brightness, and those low darks are all gone. Also, this adapter should come with the purchase of a PSVR2, if Sony's push is to sell more units for PC. I thought Sony was bringing the PSVR2 to PC for increased sales, but I guess I was wrong. No doubt about it, the adapter should come with a Display Port 1.4 cable too. I don't have a Display Port cable, and now I have to buy one for $10 or $20 bucks + the adapter at $60 bucks = $80 bucks. PC gamers are looking at a $550 PSVR2 (Not the On-Sale Price - Yes it is $450 currently but will go back up) + $60 for the PC Adapter + $20 for a Display Port cable = Totalling $630.00 and that doesn't include the tax, or a video game. With the tax included, we are looking at PC VR Headset costing close to $700 bucks. That is absolutely insane. The PSVR2 headset is all I got for VR, so I'll go ahead and buy the stupid shitty adapter. I am not buying another VR headset, because I've already invested far too much money into the PSVR2 already. Sony PlayStation just continues to disappoint their PC customers, and I don't understand why. Maybe we will see a PSVR2 PC Only bundle that includes the stupid adapter in future, but without that adapter, and without everything that makes the PSVR2 so unique, it's not going to sell well. If you own a PC, and really want to get into VR gaming, do not buy this product. No one should by it, unless modders fix it. I screwed up thinking Sony would deliver great exclusive games to PSVR2, and it was my mistake believing in them. What a total bummer...

Are there are any SteamVR games that support HDR? It may be they are saying its not supported because no games support it. Likewise, are adaptive triggers even a thing on any VR controllers? You'd think so, but if its not part of the SteamVR API then that's a problem. Perhaps there are actual limitations in how PSVR2 works compared to PC VR that makes it impractical to support those features? Firmware size limitations even, given it was only designed to have code to support PS5? At the very least, I hope the adapter can be used with iVRy as its a lot better than needing the DP AUX adapter and a Virtualink adapter. I think until we see iVRy doing things that the Sony solution does not, we can't entirely assume its just Sony being Sony.

"Are there are any SteamVR games that support HDR?" - Well over a Dozen, and those are just the ones I found with 45 seconds of googling. Steam has had hapic support for a VERY long time now.... Including the PS5 controllers IDENTICAL adaptive triggers. And IRVY are doing everything with reverse engineering, workarounds, and hacks.... SONY has EVERYTHING directly available to them, they DESIGNED AND MADE the fucking thing FFS.

I thought this was going to make the PSVR2 a competitive option. Rivalling the Quest 3 on price (in between the size prices here in Oz). The PSVR2 library rivalling the Quest library in quality if not quantity, and both having PCVR. Lack of pancake lenses is a major drawback, wifi and passthrough less so, but the haptics, better controllers, OLED and eyetracking offer something different at least, even if the fresnel lenses feel very dated. ...but no. As with everything else, they are half-arsing it.

So let me just double check - First I have to spend $550 on the PSVR2 Then I have to spend $60 on the PC adapter Then I have to go spend even more on a DisplayPort cable, because the PC adapter doesn't come with one And then after spending all this money on a wired headset that's more expensive than wireless competitors, most of the features that make PS VR 2 so expensive don't work. And there's still almost no native PS5 PSVR2 games that make it worth it from that angle. Sony expects people to buy this... Why, exactly? I'm sure not convinced. Don't have PSVR2, or any VR. If I was to get anything (unlikely) I would just get something that works really well on PC and is cheaper than PSVR2.
