I put my 75yo dad behind the wheel of the 63 Vette he once owned and he was floored. It was like all these memories came back. He went on and on about what every knob and button did, how you get into reverse, the materials, etc. He tried reaching out of touch a couple things 😂. It was an incredible moment with him that I'll never forget and worth every penny I spent on this thing. And btw, this review was the most pleasant and sober presentation of gt's vr mode there is. Cheers and thank you for a fantastic review!

Totally agree! Moments like these are priceless and worth every penny. It's incredible how certain experiences can bring back memories and emotions we may have forgotten over time. Giving your dad the chance to drive his old 63 Vette was such a cool idea and created some amazing new memories for you both. It's a reminder that sometimes the best gifts are the ones that create unforgettable moments.

I can’t go back to flat. No motion sickness and a sense of speed and awareness you just can’t replicate without VR. I hope everyone gets to try it and see for themselves.
GT7 Vr is so realistic. All your real life driving instincts kick in. You have to use your head to look in the mirrors and use real spatial awareness when overtaking as everything is in full 3d at life size scale. It's a stunning experience and far more like real life driving than sitting on a sofa playing a game. If you love racing you need to try this.
Words do not suffice to describe how much lighting and HDR add to the experience. I can literally feel the heat of the sun on my skin.

@Artee771 I'm 30 years into my journey in gaming and man, I built a mx5 like I have in real life and wow. The one in the game dose not feal quite the same, but well its close. The lsd in the game pulls your car straight in a corner more than the factory. The factory is a 1.5 lsd so it's not perfect. The real car kinda slides the rear around so you can make tighter turns. But hay if it was 100 percent perfect my brain would have exploded!
Thanks It is wild how your mind plays tricks on you in vr, it actually does feel real inside these cars, so much so I find myself occasionally attempting to move an arm or a leg to get a better view of something And a how each wheel in vr feels like the wheel I am using irl, no matter the size differences

Once you get used to VR there is no going back, which isn't a good or bad thing, just something to be aware of.
@DigitalRelay

After using PSVR exclusively for 2 weeks, I did go back, and I think where I'm going to land is a combination of VR and TV. Although the VR version is incredible and immersive, I realized going back to TV that it's easier, more convenient, and generally more comfortable. If I'm pressed for time and just want to jump on for a few races, using the TV feels like way less of a chore. Getting the VR headset at just the right position is getting faster for me, but it always takes more effort than looking straight ahead at my TV. I've also noticed my eyes feel a little weird after being in VR. Not uncomfortable, not motion sickness, but just off, and that takes a little while to get used to, and for it to go away.

@@DigitalRelay The fact that there's still the same missing in-race data but only in VR mode as we had in GT Sport is why I have to keep coming back to the TV if for no other reason than to get the data for our league scoring. Not a gimmick. Its Revolutionary!
I can only describe the experience as the same as going to a real race track and driving real cars. It's incredible. It's the most bonkers thing I've ever experienced in a video game in a lifetime of playing. I'm now in my fifties and playing since ever. I will agree it can take it's toll because it's so intense. I would not recommend playing for more than an hour a day and if you're tired don't play at all.

For anyone that isn't a nerd about this stuff and just wants a great driving experience, I have zero doubt the PSVR 2 version is a complete and utter game-changer from playing on a flat screen with everything in a fixed window. It's not conveyed especially well in footage, but in VR you get full stereoscopic 3D visuals at 1:1 real-world scale, wrapped all around you with a 110 degree actual field of view but the ability to also freely and naturally look around at will, running at 120 fps (actually 60 fps reprojected to 120 fps), full 3D positional audio, and the advanced rumble and haptics in both the headset and controllers. Racing on some 50" 2D TV screen or whatever isn't even in the same paradigm.
It did change my GT7. I playing with VR2 every time and don't want to play with my monitor anymore 👍
Most accurate review I've seen yet. 👏 Just got my psvr2 yesterday and I feel it's a completely different game. Every car is a new experience and it makes you appreciate your car collection so much more.

About the camera "lock to horizon" feature, it would be great if they put a toggle to switch to "lock to car" for those of us that prefer that instead.
@b.s.7693

Or a slider between both states.
@sparrowcd
Жыл бұрын
You wouldn't want that. Your brain stabilizes any shaking/head-turning you experience in real life. Polyphony just needs to increase the complexity of this feature. At a certain rotation, the perceived "horizon" needs to change. This is what happens in real life (think about how you perceive a roller coaster if you've been on one). Locking to the car would cause intense motion sickness.
@b.s.7693
Жыл бұрын
@@sparrowcd I not that bevavior from the GTA5 VR mod. There you can switch on the fly between the two states. As long you ride on leveled roads, horizon locked is better. But when it comes to high slopes or canted roads, a transition to a car locked view feels better. Otherwise you feel like sitting in a gyroscope.
@zwenkwiel816
Жыл бұрын
@@sparrowcd not really, I play locked to car in any VR racing game I've ever played and I played a lot of of them. to me locked to horizon is just weird especially if there's a lot of elevation changes. you'll be looking at the floorboards mid race and the whole thing is just generally disorienting. Dirt Rally 2.0 has a slider which kind of makes your view more or less springy, at one end it's totally locked to the car and the other end it's totally locked to horizon. this way it does help with people who want locked to horizon but you don't get this weird stuff where you're looking up and down constantly just to see anything.....
Great review. One point I do disagree with is the sensation of speed is much greater for me in VR. I think this, more so than added depth perception, is why braking is more consistent and easier.
Best review of this godly combo! Good job 😄💪
There's also something to be said about people ( like myself ) that never would have bought/ played GT7 if it wasnt playable in VR. Just like Dirt Rally for PSVR1, I'm in love with this game now. Incredible stuff. Great review!
Superb video and presentation. Very even-handed and pragmatic conclusion. And - thank you for highlighting the lack of a leaderboard and the Daytona banking gyroscope setting. WT players have been submitting bug reports like crazy and we hope PD will have more for us in the future. Your review is the best PSVR2 + GT7 video i have watched so far. Thanks for a detailed and informative opinion. I have a better understanding of what i need to know to consider buying one.
After just couple hours in vr and wheel i can say it can make you respond to car better. Lap times i get pretty similar to flat screen, but i always had problem recovering from slipping, in vr i can "feel" the slip like in real car and countersteer instantly to avoid crashing.
The true cure for motion sickness is regular play , not extended play as long as you take it off and take a break when it starts and get back In when recovered , I can garentee over the days play sessions will get longer until your taking it off when you want too not when you feel sick 👍 the length of time to adapt is different for everyone me personally took about 3weeks to a month before I could play games for 5 hours + , but before that It was an hour tops for the first few days literally needing to lay in bed for 20 mins recovering by second week I was lasting 2-3 hours by fourth week I was more taking it off cause I was done than because I was feeling sick

Thanks for this review! I really like how you pointed out the perspective difference that comes with realistic depth perception. I don't drive on tracks in real life, but I've done a fair bit of skiing/cycling and I know that cameras are not able to capture the real scale and perceived steepness of slopes. I knew the corkscrew was famous for this, but didn't even realize that hill on the 'Ring is actually so imposing. Also curious about Eau Rouge in VR. Really tempted to splurge on PSVR2. My favourite part of GT games is just driving the different cars around the tracks in time trial mode so VR should be a huge improvement.

In a Real Car, the Horizon is pretty much Locked. Although the Tilt angle ( roll ) might change a bit on a banked curve. But Up and Down, it doesn't if your focus is out the window on a distant focal point. Go take a drive in a real car and look out at a distance.. Notice that the interior of the car is what moves up and down, the gauges, the dash.. Your eyes stay focused on the distant view, while the car jostles around. This is what is replicated in the PSVR2...

This is a really great in-depth review.
Full VR support for GT7 is a huge milestone for VR and the racing genre, and I'm so happy so see it being so well-received.
I own a high-end 4090 PC/HP Reverb and although the PSVR2 powered by the PS5(mid-range PC) can not touch the clarity and detail that provides it comes pretty close for the money spent. This is a must buy for those with a modest budget who wants to get the full VR experience. If Sony somehow comes out with a pc-version of their headset it will be the best in class and would justify an $700-$800 price tag in my book. Assuming it has foveated rendering built-in for the PC games.
Great review. I appreciate all of the details.
The first time you get in. Hard to describe, it truly feels like next gen gaming. Ive fallen aslpeep with my VR headset on now twice due to being exhausted from work but simply could not but it down. Also. A racing wheel with force feedback is a MUST

Superb review...👍🏻
Great Review. On the topic of VR Replay. That is one of my Favorite VR Features. It's not for sitting down though. You have to stand up and walk around. It's great to get out on Track and kneel down. the cars race right over you.. Or Pause the replay and walk around the cars. Sure, you can watch it while Sitting, but the sitting experience does not compare to getting up put on Track. What I do miss, and I hope it can be added in an Update, is Watching the Full Replay from Within the Cockpit of the car in VR, Just like you have when Driving. Then you could switch from Car to Car and get the experience of sitting / racing in that car. VR replay from within the cockpit. That is a Needed update ! Oh, in the VR show room, the R3 and L3 buttons allow you to adjust your Height. ( joystick buttons ) Get down to ground level and check out the Suspension and Wheels. or get your face at Headlamp level, you can see all the little details. The custom paints come alive when you can see the individual flakes.
Ive always 'liked' Gran Turismo but sometimes felt it was a bit bland and staid at times but in VR its a whole new experience. I've thought the same, the detail they pour into each car really pays off when you're sat in the drivers seat and you can hear the engine.
The best thing about VR is now you have to drive properly using the cockpit view
'in VR you won't feel like you're going quite as fast...' I think you're in the minority with that opinion. Most reviewers perception, and my own, is completely the opposite - so much so, that I'm not missing the possibility to change the camera viewpoint to the very front of the car (which is my preferred view when playing flatscreen and made a huge difference to the feeling of speed in Driveclub VR)

Motion sickness can be an issue that's why I'm saying to everybody who can invest in one, get yourself a motion rig it will change your life in sim racing! gone is the disconnect between what your eyes are seeing and and your body not moving in response With the pitch, heave, sway, roll, and traction loss if you get a 3 degrees of motion rig, especially important for you sensing when you're about to lose control with oversteering while drifting fun. I am biased because I have had one for many yes but the entry into motion riggs is not expensive when compared to foreign holidays prices [lol] and if you get yourself a DOF Reality rig it's quite reasonable compared to other rigs and you can upgrade as you see fit and financially expedient. just as importantly I have now regrets with sim racing studios software support which now by the way as of February extends to GT7 so happy days with reduced motion sickness. I'm not affiliated with DOF reality but I hope to be soon but in the mean time Get the most out of GT7 with a motion rig which you can use on the PC 10s of racing racing and fly titles and your Xbox please and PlayStation consoles with reduced or no motion sickness for even more immersive fun!
Awesome review!!!
Four months on and I'm still in love with my VR2. I got it day one, and yet did only single player until last week. Still, the racing against even the AI, or starting a new account just to experience things like the licenses and track experience, was worth it. The racing against REAL people, in multiplayer, was just gobsmackingly immersive.

Mine is super grainy and blurry and can't track my eyes, is it like that for you? (I have calibrated everything multiple times and have tried many combinations of settings)
Agree with this review, VR2 is a game-changer that will be hard to turn away from. I have never been this immersed. One of the other glaring omissions on the HUD, besides the standings, is throttle and break input, which is useful in a virtual environment, weather in VR or flat screen.

Is it worth the upgrade from quest 2 or should i buy a pc for pc vr

@@midget420 Yes worth every penny.
Never I felt so intriguing when playing even the simplest mission such as music rally. The interior of classic cars are just quirky, including my all time favorite of Toyota 2000GT. It's mindblowing !!
I'm running faster laps, so it's hard to call it a gimmick.

It's far more like real driving. It makes flat screen feel like a game where as VR feels much more like a real driving simulator. Your real life driving instincts really do kick in when using mirrors, overtaking and taking corners. It's a game changer.

@@donnajones1075 I agree. It's the most fun I've had playing a video game in a LONG time.
I get more excited to buy a PS5 seeing this video. I have always wanted a good driving rig with seat, steering wheel and a big screen but my space has been limited for this. But seeing VR seem to be and work really great nowadays the space issue is not an issue anymore. Only need to get a playseat and a steering wheel which can be stowed away when not used and don't use too much space when used either. This video was exactly what I needed, thanks! 😃
I wouldn't be able to do any driving if I had this! I'd be too impressed at the damn graphics and just standing by the cars! I'd be in the showrooms for days IRL just looking at every car! I don't have this game or a PS5, but gosh would I have a blast in single player or on Tsukuba Circuit drifting an R8!

Perhaps GT Sport on the PSVR1 is for you! Design-wise it's identical, after all, just less image fidelity.

@Color of Grey absolutely not identical. GT sport is not fully featured with VR.

@@DingbatToast yes, again though, that's by the hardware rather than *by design,* know what I mean? The experience, even the missing data, is inherently identical, like Star Wars but on Blu-ray instead of VHS. They changed nothing about the in-car experience, for example, for better or worse, know what I mean? It's what makes it a good comparison by nature.
I want a PS5, so I can get a PSVR2, so I can get GT7 ;-)
Didn't even watch the video yet, and I can confirm that psvr2/gt7/wheel setup is an absolute must have!!!! Oh, and upgrading the psvr2 ear buds to something like the 3d pulse headphones is a huge boost to audio! It enhances the game play greatly
The showroom could be better. I think it would be great if it supported the motion controllers so you could actually interact with elements of the car. You could turn the key to start cars, wind the windows down etc. Combine this with either your pedals or the triggers to rev the car whilst sitting in it. They would need to program in some virtual hands and make use of all the buttons on the controllers, but it would be great.
It’s amazing. Simple as that.
How do you get to drive the raptor trucks on snow? Is this something that has to earned over time or can I just switch it on?
Thanks for being informative and to the point and not wasting our time. It's getting rare these days without obnoxious youtubers that's blasts annoying Rap or trap music and advertising raid shadow legends or manscape
I totally agree with your comments, it's a gamechanger for me, but can anyone tell me what was the blue car he was using with the shifter above the wheel and rear view mirror on the middle of the dash?
I love it, But you are correct i can play std gt7 for hours , but im exhausted after a few races in vr. its draining but in a great way . i cant imagine what it must be like with a force feedback wheel.
when I first played this game in VR I wasn't so sure about this game but after playing it a lot more in VR I can say that It's pretty fun and cool in VR
Can you turn off VR hands??? Also have they updated it so the in game wheel rotates the same amount as the steering wheel controller? ( big game breaker for me) I noticed in past footage the in game wheel animation is only 360 degrees when my steering wheel controller turns 1080 degrees edit: can you set it so that vr is locked to the car not the horizon???? That makes it so I will not play it.
VERY GOOD STUFF AMAZING VIDEO.
15:26 I thought those reflections on the classic car were a graphics glitch at first. Really impressive lighting effects on this game.
I just tried the psvr2 today. I'm getting one tomorrow. The sense of speed and the overall quality is just incredible.
Can you interact with the interior things such as headlights signals etc?
