I am so grateful that we still have Mario, if for no other reason than to share decades worth of great stories. He is possibly the most versatile high-level driver of all time.

This guy is a superhuman, crazy to see how well he does both mentally and physically at 83. Most of us won't statistically make it to this age. He's an F1 champion, Indycar champion, won Monaco, Indy and Daytona. He built a f*cking empire, is into open-wheel racing since the early 60s, and is still fully involved in motorsports, this is just crazy. Hope the best for you Mr.Andretti. If I make it to my 80s hope to be like you, Mr.Petty, Mr.Foyt and Mr.Penske, you guys are living legends.

He is the only driver to win the crown jewels and all three series there is no argument he is the greatest all-around race car driver to ever strap on a helmet and it's awesome that he is still in great physical and mental condition

What Mario described going from a dirt-track race to an F1 race was what made the 1960s a very compelling decade in auto racing. The drivers crossing over to different racing disciplines, in a single season, made it VERY interesting, indeed! That 1968 Hoosier 100 dirt-track race won by AJ Foyt . . . the same driver that co-drove the winning Ford GT40 Mk IV sports car at Le Mans the year before. Drivers back then were truly *iron-men!*

Gotta Admit, Andrew does a great job with this series -- One of the Best Series at Dirty Mo Media for sure!

I can't believe that when Mario drove for Ferrari that he didn't ask them if it were they who protested.

Always enjoy listening Mario’s interviews. Needless to say the respect to him as a driver. But this interviewer guy, when he says : “Maaaanza” 😂

Yeah, as a kid i had his INDY CAR poster in my bedroom.. He was racing in the DAN GURNEY 200 AT KENT PACIFIC RACEWAY… After the race i was first in line to get a autograph and he said wait to me twice and got a little nasty with me the second time …! He went around the car for a few minutes and ended up signing those autographs a few minutes later after a big line developed and i got pushed aside and never got that crummy signature !!! I was 10 years old a lost total respect for mario , took down that poster forever… 🏴🏴 Buy the way i turned around and walked right up to MARK DONOHUE got his autograph and actually had a little conversation with CAPTAIN NICE !!! Mark ended up being one of my very favorite drivers and still is … ! 😇 🏁🏁

Translation: "Mario had just completed a grueling 1-2 hour race and as soon as he got out of the car I immediately started pestering him for an autograph instead of giving a him minute to take off his helmet and catch his breath" Also I love how you boomers say you're not easily offended like those "snowflake millennials" but you're still butthurt about this over half a century later.

@@MrJohansen REAL translation… i was 10 years old and patiently waited until he was clear of any of that.. i stood there in front and he went to the rear of the car and randomly started signing autographs.. My father was a racer and he didn’t like it ETHIER…I’ve been around top drag racers , CUP Nascar , NFL players and this you’re has never happened..CONGRATULATIONS defending mario cookie like a Biden supporter…..LOL…! PS; I do agree with some that Mario was one of the worlds greatest racers period…! 🏁🇺🇸

He is the greatest racing driver of all time for countless reasons. Still glad he's doing well for his age

I can name 10 drivers who had superior skills and racecraft that were greater than Mario's. In this country I'd obviously start with AJ Foyt, followed up quickly by Al Unser, Senior. I might even put Big Al at the top. Mario was a great driver but unfortunately didn't know how to take care of a car. He won only one Indy 500 for exactly that reason.

@@danmetz5112 Some of the fault comes to Granatelli just making fast but unreliable cars in the mid 60s, but yes Mario did push his equipment too hard at times. Still won an F1 championship driving hard.

I'm a huge fan of both, I love the old school sanctioning style Nascar, Late models, Sprint dirt cars and other oval racing categories get to offer us, as well as IndyCar, but I do also love F1, this is just pinnacle engineering along with sports, lack of competitiveness the last few years, but this is fine.

They are trying to be 2 different things. Indy prioritizes close racing by being a spec series but comes at a cost of overall lap time. Formula 1 is the pinnacle of technology and has the fastest cars on the planet around road courses. Both are great, just different.

I’m a stock car racing fan, but have always paid some attention to Indy Car, and find it very exciting. I just can’t get into F1, the start of the race and first lap is great, the announcers are the absolute best at making it seem exciting, but after the first lap, there is no racing each other. It’s basically like watching a bunch of cars qualify for a couple hours. This past race, the 2nd place car was like 15 seconds behind after 2 laps, then another at least 5 seconds for every car after that.
