Scott the video guy has shadows the neighbor Wilson W. Wilson Jr. That we only see his hat and eyes in the TV show Tool Time. He was there to be helpful. I'd keep the name most of the time so new viewers get to enjoy knowing his role and yet keep him somewhat nerdly-elusive

@@whiteangel5416 That would be kinda cool. An actual design built into the surface? Although to be fair he did say his 'art' skills aren't very good, so maybe that'd need an artist's help.

As soon as I saw the crack in the epoxy, I was reminded of the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery known as Kintsugi - using a special lacquer that's been dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum to glue the pieces back together. And I think this idea perfectly fits your idea of rebranding epoxy tables as a form of rescuing the wood or reusing it, because the purpose behind Kintsugi isn't to fix a teapot or a bowl, but to take something that was an every day object and give it new life as a piece of art that's unique because of its flaws.

Rescue: The first "rescue" term my genius wife came up with took her 2 seconds, and it was REPOXY. Sounds like recycle, reuse, and rescue, but it's a brand new word. What a fun project, Cam !! "Scott the video guy" is perfect and should remain his name forever. :)

There is a great section on different wood and what to use for what kind of job and a similar section for tools as well. The projects in it are things you probably would have a go at with clear instructions, pictures, videos and diagrams throughout. Great for a beginner/amateur wood worker.

I like how Scott has been promoted from just the video guy to one of the key materials in the shop. You find him on the shelf in between the walnut and the epoxy ready for filming. Just think about it. Your great Scott!

At 26:40 whilst you're curing the UV coat, the epoxy fluoresces a bright blue at the edges of the wood. Wonder if you could recreate that effect in normal light and make a "atoll table" where the dark epoxy transitions to a bright blue at the edge of the wood. Would be awesome, but probably very VERY difficult.

I think the only way to do that is to make multiple extremely thin layers and let them cure long enough to apply the next one - and then you have to start progressively mixing in black epoxy so that it's a gradual darkening rather than immediate. The amount of effort would be immense - though possibly less so than the jeans table was.

I didn’t even notice that at first but that is definitely a cool effect. Maybe it’s possible to brush on a thin layer of blue and then pour in the black? Once you sand it smooth, you would see the thin blue outline. Depending on how “wet” the epoxy is, it may blend slightly into the black or it may just look like a border. Would be cool to experiment with though. 👍

Rescue is exactly what you did with that wood and it turned out gorgeous! Scott is fine for all regular viewers. Newbies can always ask.

Rescued me from my boredome with a beautiful video. Love the openness around you and scott and the viewers, its refreshing to see the little ways you guys do fake wrap ups and the funny little conversations. Ive only been watching for about 2 days but ive binged a good few videos, love the content, miss woodworking myself, glad to see someone with more patience than me really put together some amazing works.

Rescue Scott the Video Guy! From a personal standpoint, Scott has been more than the video guy for a while. We always see him helping out. Most of the regular viewers know who he is. That said, my vote is to change it to "Just Scott" and mess with the newbie viewers. PS to Scott: I'm sorry for your loss but at least you're safe and back on the road.

Rescue, I would call it a resurrected table. It was resurrected into a beautifully improved table. As always your craftsmanship improves more and more with each project. Your attention to details is so evident in the end product. Keep them coming, Every time you and other woodworkers post a new video I learn a bit more.

As you stated at the end of this video Rescue... 🙃I have just been introduced to your channel earlier today... as a an artist who also trained as a cabinetmaker. I appreciate all the effort you went into resurrecting that amazingly beautiful piece of timber. 20 years ago I found myself in a timber merchants with all these fabulously striking unique pieces of all different kinds of timber. I ended up bringing a 18 inch x 13 inch x 3 inch deep piece back on the plane with me... It is some sort of burl.. its been so long since then, I don't remember what it is exactly. it has like your piece, beautiful medullary rays. My initial idea was to use a book-leaf design as part of a table top inlay. I took it to a timber specialist back where I live as there is many small areas that need to be filled... Over the years I look at it longingly, where little bits fall out when I pick it up. It seems sacrilegious, not to utilise its beauty in all its glory. I was put off by what the timber guy said at that time. And now, having watched many artists do amazing things with epoxy resin and timber an with all of the potentially inherent problems that can happen. I realise I don't have the skills needed to pull off reshaping it into something beautiful, especially given its actual size. Watching your video has inspired me to do or at least, get something done with it.

Would be cool to see if you could make something using standard framing 4x2 timber and see what level of finish you could get out of it? Love your work

Rescue. My daughter doesn’t generally enjoy woodworking. But she did watch this video with me and was blown away, how beautiful it is,and now she wants to build a desk together. Inspiration.

It's great that you've been able to salvage what was a great slab in the first place. You're right, the colours were and are so brilliant. Scott, there's a dilemma. We love Scott. I think adding the video guy is fine but not necessary. He’s so much more than a video guy. Also, my grandmother had a huge clock coffee table where the table top was a giant working clock (batteries and motor were on the underside) and it had a piece of glass overtop to protect the clock but make it visible. Hers was a wood frame wrapped with leather upholstery but it would look AMAZING as just wood, especially if you made the clock wood as well.

Reacue : I highly recommend you purchase a number 8 hand plain. It's the really long one. It's length really helps removing bumps or ridges as it glides over the dips without going in them. Honestly, for large pieces to smooth, it's superb

You are 100% correct - that tabletop is outrageously beautiful. I really like the base, but I think it clashes with the top - a simple metal base would (IMHO) worked better. Still, great work - better than anything I could ever do.

Rescue. That table has to be one of my all-time favourite projects. When you originally made that top, I was really upset that it might never be made into a finished table. I'm so glad that it's finally managed to be completed. That "simple" base was a great call because that top has so much interest in it that a complicated base would have just been too much. Rescue, I just wanted to say I can tell you are a very honest man and of good character. You inspired me to cut some wood today. I made about two dozen water oak "cookies" up to 56" for table tops today. Now I just have to see if I can get a few done in time for Christmas. TY

Re Scotts car burning: I also had this happen many years ago. I was driving my car and flames started shooting out from under the dash. I ran to the nearest house to call fire dept. By the time they got there it was nothing but a burned out frame. It was speculated that while the car had sat in a wooded area for a couple of months not being driven, squirrels or mice may have nested under the hood. Great video! Very informative and enjoyable to watch! Beautiful table! 👍✌️

Rescue and absolutely gorgeous. I really like that grinder pattern that you've been throwing on the bottom of your tables. Think it may be worth playing around with some grinder-pattern "concepts" to take it further, including ones capped with clear or opaque epoxy on the textured parts. Maybe some routed insets? Albeit, I think it fits more of a rustic than modern style, but I've seen you do some badass rustic-modern crossovers. Honestly, I just want to see you throw some clear epoxy over the grinder-claw mark patterns or even dye just that part a little darker and cap it with epoxy so my brain knows what it'd look like. From there: what about 'just the tip' dyed with a darker color? I can just see it working either magically or being an absolute disaster.

Rescue is right! And yes, this is my favorite table of yours so far and the base is just as cool.

Resurrection tables 👌🏻 Stunning looking table top and glad it was salvaged.

"Kintsugi" which is a japanese art form of making things more beautiful by repairing them (typically it was repairing pottery with gold). This totally works with the upscale market as well. I also like "Character" for pieces with lots of knots and cracks and chunks to work with.
