The Problem with Vitamin E Supplements

Ғылым және технология

Vitamin E plays critical roles in immune function, cell signaling, and fighting oxidative stress.
Sadly, according to data from the Nurses Health Study, 89 percent of Americans don’t get enough of this essential vitamin. And while it may seem like supplementation is an easy solution, recent studies have shown that the form of vitamin E that is found in most supplements and multivitamins-called alpha-tocopherol-not only doesn’t help, but it may also increase the risk of cancer and heart disease.
In this video, I explain how to optimize your vitamin E intake so you can get all of the benefits without any risks.

It is funny how year after year we are getting information that something that was previously known as good for you is suddenly bad. And the funniest thing is that immediately after hearing something is bad, we're being bimbarded with the information about something new in it's place that is supposed to be good for us. So, I'm starting to feel that every product we see today is just a marketing trick and will eventually become bad for us after a few years. I also started to question everything I hear online, including what is mentioned in this video. This all sounds like a joke to me. I'm going to forget about all supplements and just live my life eating whatever I feel like.

I feel the same as you way too many conflicting information out every where. I I belive this: my own opinion, as soon as a big company discover something new that will generate huge profits they fund new study to bad mouth the other products so they can sale the new product for way more money. I belive in vitamin E I have read many studies about it, it remove oxidative stress of the body, restore DNA , eliminate cancer...now they say it causes??? Dont believe in that many people have used for healing with great results, also the study he probably is taking about is harmful for health people and when taking too much of it, for some reason is not can have negative effects. If not deficient and have too much it will have negative effects, but for those that are I'll have the most benefit

To put the importance of nutrition into perspective -- those with low vit D3 during covid were the ones most often hospitalized, put on ventilators and the ones who passed away. Many were people with dark skin as in blacks and hispanics are often vit d3 deficient. Not that light skinned people can't be low in vit D3, but melanin found more in the skin of dark people hinders vit d3 absorption, hence people with dark skin have built-in natural sun block and the reason they burn less and tan more, but they were the ones more likely to get more severe cases of covid due to low vit d3. Also, anyone who was obese during covid had more severe covid because obesity can also affect vit d3 levels. Anyway nutrition absolutely does matter and as much as we try to eat nutritious food to increase our daily optimal nutrients, it can still be quit hard, so supplementing is very important and helpful. Don't underestimate your body's chemistry and it's needs. You have to be your own and best advocate as most doctors will not teach you this. This is a good video and truthful -- do more research on tocotrienols -- he is not the only one talking about this. Another example most people do not know-- iron and calcium supplementation are about the 2 nutrients to research first before taking. Unless your doctor prescribes it for like heavy menstrual or internal bleeding, take cautiously and best in food form. Same with calcium food form best and not good in supplement form as can deposit in soft tissue of the body. Learn about the triad synergy of vit D3, K2 and magnesium also. Nutrition does matter and you need to stay positive, hopeful and keep learning what is best for your needs based on your unique health status.

Have to be cautious about recommending high oxalate foods as sources of Vitamin E. In fact I wouldn't recommend that anyone eat spinach or almonds regularly or in any significant quantity due to the high oxalate content. Oxalate is insidious and toxic. Kiwi is also high in oxalate as are most nuts and seeds. Tocotrienols seem promising, but as far as I know there are no long term safety studies on them. Use with caution.

Although I do not intend to overgeneralize, I must say that I have been taking Nature Made Vitamin E (the natural form d-alpha tocopherol 400 IU) for 36 years. My blood Labs each year, which I saved, is almost flawless, except for low neutrophils, which I am now addressing with copper supplements. No flu, no flu vaccine, no known health issues, maybe 2 or 3 occasions of colds in those years. Hair and skin excellent, PSA always between 0.4 and 0.8 (most of those years 0.4). Could it be the synthetic form (dl) that others have been taking?

Of course. Natural vitamin E complex is better. Not sure about any studies here, I read user comments and blogs. But the problem with studies is that the pharmaceutical industry spends no money for studies of substances that they can't patent. So we are our own study subject... I take 400 iu of a natural vit e complex against menopausal hot flushes. After 3 days of taking it I feel already better. But I don't want to risk my health. So we all are dependent on hearing your experiences. Thank you!

Vitamin e works along with vitamin c (ascorbate is actually the potent form) and also selenium (could be taken every 2-3 days since it's a mineral and can get accumulated). So i think it's obvious that not be much benefit from taking E alone since it's not a drug pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23700248/ This study shows alpha tocopherol does not deplete gamma tocopherol and tocotrienols

Vitamin E is essential. It is a family of eight compounds: 4 tocopherols and 4 tocotrienols. Both tocopherols and tocotrienols are found in food, but in small amounts. There is nothing wrong with dietary tocopherols-but over 90 percent of Americans don't get enough from food. This video is addressing the problem with supplementing with tocopherols, and suggests tocotrienols as an alternative.

Vitamin E supplements alone give me headaches. When it’s part of the ingredients in a multivitamin I’m fine. It must be because the Vitamin E supplements sold individually have too high of a milligram. Throughout history whenever a supplement of vitamin has caused high cases of illness or death, they’ve pulled it off the shelves. If this was causing that there would be a massive media frenzy over it.

I just bought VITAMIN CODE 50 & WISER WOMEN, from Garden of Life, and the stupid whoever put tocoferol in it. Now, I want to return the thing, because I am getting wiser.

you didn't read enough re the source of tocopherols in that multi vitamin (it's actually on the same line that lists vit e) - it isn't synthetic. I think that's the issue here - synthetic vs organic.

Never liked it. The smell alone of vit E capsules made me want to vomit.

I’ve read that form of vitamin e is good, as long as it’s not synthetic!
