It is astonishing how they managed to make almost every single group of league fans angry with this one character and campaign. One aspect of Seraphine that pisses off yet another group of league fans is her canonical in game lore in which she is one of the only people who is aware of the Brackern genocide. The Brackern being crystal scorpions whose souls exist in crystals, which many human characters have used said crystals and said souls to power their machines. Seraphine can communicate with the souls in the crystals and hears of their sad plight but instead of doing anything about it she shoved the soul crystals in a hoverboard that amplifies her music so she can be a big pop star all while acting like a good guy. How they managed to piss off even the lore nerds with this character baffles me.

Oh god yeah I didn't even get into the lore side because it's just a whole thing on it's own. She exists in three different universes and has a completely different personality for each.

Even her voice lines are like that. She ACTUALLY ASKS SKARNER IF HE WANTS TO HEAR THEM. Just imagine asking someone if they want to hear the screams of their people, who are in pain BECAUSE OF YOU, and actually think it's a good thing.

this storly line feels really familiar. the crystals that hold souls and can power machenery are a big part of the story of one of brandon sandersons book series. idk if they yoinked that but it sounds so oddly the same.

The fact she's another character with another crystal is just baffling. Even after changing it the second time to her not knowing while Camille promoted genocide with the Brackern crystals before the synthetic crystals. We literally have champions that are killing his people without knowing

I saw a tweet calling this account out, and it took me a little while to realise that it was just a branding exercise. For a few seconds I thought "this person seems to be having mental health issues, that callout tweet seems kind of mean" Then suddenly the realisation, "wait, this isn't even a real fucking person?!" It feels so gross. It's like the evolution of #relatable brand accounts like Wendy's. Let's pretend that we're an actual human being with feelings. We'll manipulate you into caring about a fictional person, not for any sort of narrative catharsis, but just so that you care slightly more about the brand. Capitalism caused a mental health crisis, and profits off that further by emulating a mental health crisis. Truly nothing is sacred. Everything is to be refined and extracted for maximal profit.

The fact Riot is the second company to use mental health issues to sell a skin, the first being Blizzard with negative stereotypes to sell a skin and spray for Sigma. People found it gross because of how they handled it with an Asylum skin and Brain Scan Spray

Hard to put into words just how uncomfortable and... off Seraphine felt by the end of this all, but you did a good job summarizing it. #Blessed is definitely where I started to get annoyed, and the current era of her posting just made me feel gross.

The thing that bother simple players like me is how her runterran persona doesn't have the effort her k/da version got also her gameplay kit is straight up just a rush didn't even bother for kit uniqueness. On her lore side about her hearing the voices of the brackern but still jamming those soul-bearing-crystals to her amplifier/stage/board is so hypocritical imo, it kinda corresponds to what you're calling out on that seradotwav twitter, it's just feels hypocrisy and ruse, that sera is not somebody who's emotionally real no not just that SERA IS NOT REAL it's just a PR team! and I really can't get over her runterran lore it's just so dirty. Lmao last time I even bothered League lore was like a long time ago damn.

I think what hurts is that I took comfort at the idea of Seraphine, I was so excited for her release. When the realization hit that it's just a brand advertising in an awkward attempt to be relatable, the joy it gave went away and it's all empty. Parasocial relationships have become more relevant in the past couple of years and through the release of Seraphine it's clear how easy it is to exploit and how unaware the masses are about it. Something so clearly wrong hidden in plain sight. It's terrifying!

It hurts a lot! I've seen the positive impact Seraphine has had on the community. I think there is a lot of value to having a female self-insert character in League especially this year as you point out.

@@AlexandraOrlando Thank you for the video. I had a hard time understanding why I felt bad about her. It's sad how people don't want to discuss it. Seraphine makes people happy yes but there is an important issue that needs to be addressed. A character can be good and fun AND still be used in a exploitive way for money. Both are true at the same time. We can take in the good but we shouldn't ignore the bad either.

This and nickyboy are the most eye-opening videos on the topic and it honestly hurts so much to see the direction league is taking. Not only will they still profit from this nonsense, they won't stop because they basically do whatever they want at this point. As if this isn't enough the skin isn't refundable apparently. Mans chilling smite just bought the skin to make a video and then couldn't get his money back

The reason why Riot continues to do a disservice of champions who are bipoc is because those champions are not popular in China. China is their #1 market after all. Hell, Seraphine is designed specifically for the Chinese audience in mind. And until China starts to care about characters who's skin tone is not pale as snow, characters with dark skin will continued to be overlooked and ignored.

Honestly I don't even play LoL or know anything about the lore whatsoever.... But heck, these Tweets make me uncomfortable ;; The mental health ones are a big no no to me. And I really don't understand why some of these replies act as if she's a real person? Anyway, great video!

The worse part is that this is being done to sell you a virtual skin for a character in a game. Seraphine doesn't exist, she's a dumb champ in a dumb game that has over 100 other champs. Riot is literally manipulating emotions and using self-doubt and depression, in the middle of a fucking pandemic, to convince the k-pop stans to give buy a $35 skin [and this is without counting the fact many will throw money to buy the champion itself]. It is actually disgusting to see this at work in real time.

As much as I really wanted great things for Seraphine, each time she keeps disappointing me, I had a lot of theories about her being a siren from Bilgewater, to being a relative to Sona, but Riot really did combine pop and art yet made a flop.

What are they trying to do? make a relatable character? No! This is pure cringe that has nothing to with League. Game itself is overloaded and needs to be tuned down. Season 11 isn't even here and I already know that game will be ruined. If game is playable it doesn't mean that it's good. It shouldn't be about win/lose, but about process. People should be able to enjoy the gameplay. I am disgusted with KDA. I know they are focusing on Korean players, but Key pop? Pure cringe.

The movie Glass is another example of mental illness in disguise as it was advertised as a superhero movie. We have a lot of misinterpretations of mental illness out there that are as bad as Seraphine's campaign. Even video games can get it wrong

My shallow reason for not liking the new kda stuff including Seraphine is that I felt the aesthetic, while well made and shiny, was too typical Chinese 3d plastic. I really wish they kept the animation style for the Pop/stars. Kinda feel similarly about the new songs too. I don't think the kda characters' dancing movement was as good as Pop/star either.

But imagine being an employee at Riot and your boss walks up to you and says “Go pretend to be a K-pop idol on Twitter or I won’t give you you’re salary”

How bad champion it is!!! Just copied Sona's skillset!!! Riot just considered about her appearance!!!

Her skills are more similar to neeko compared to sona tho....people lost their shit cuz sona was the only music champ and seraphine also being music champ....her Q and E is copy of neeko, her W kinda like karma shield but with added heal after long time....her ult is kinda combination of yuumi ult and ahri E or maybe sona ult......while seraphine QWE skills are nothing like sona....

Tell me why KDA sera has more character development and lore written on her than not only her OWN canon runeterran version...but also whole older champs?! Alistar, Malz, Cho, Kog'maw, Shaco, Rek'sai, Bard...the list goes on and on some of these champs don't even have updated bios. Garen has a WHOLE NOVEL written on him and it was barely advertised, at all. But this non-canon skin AU gets the ALL-WORKS?! Come on if thats not marketing driven favoritism idk what is.
