The Problem with PS5 Gaming Headsets

Ғылым және технология

Finding the best PS5 headset isn't easy and that goes for any console because of USB compatibility along with latency through the controller for the 3.5mm jack. In this video we test some of the best gaming headsets on the PS5 and also discuss compatibility with Bluetooth, USB DACs and USB-C dongles.

Wish I could give this video 10 thumbs up! Very thorough and detailed. Thank you for putting in the effort and providing feedback on how each product behaved. I like the fact that you guys managed to keep the video short and not fill it with bloat, just to get more runtime. Maybe you guys have already made a video about it but I'm just getting into the headphone space in gaming. I would absolutely appreciate a video about Dac/amp and how to use them with phones, PC, consoles, etc. Thanks again for this awesome video🙏

you will not realised this type of stuff even when you have 3 or 4 headset. Most will mark it off as a minor, one time issue. You will only realised it when you had 20+ speciments to try lol. That is one think but we also had to factor in that most tech antusiast will not really care about consoles and most console users are shill/airhead... This is Dmitry's first console. Because Bluetooth has massive latency for audio in the region of 100-300ms. And the standard Bluetooth audio profile does not support microphone, so you can't have high quality audio and microphone working at the same time. It needs to use the headset profile, which significantly reduces audio quality. These are limitations of the Bluetooth standard and there isn't much Sony can do about it.

Sound Blaster G3 works just as well & it's half the price of the G6. Just use the preamp option and theres more power then you'll ever need (unless your using 300 ohm cans). You get EQs, presets, game/chat mix. Low volume was my biggest gripe with wireless console headsets so I just switched to a sound card and I'm good😊

Didn't think of the battery drain on the controller though hopefully it's not too bad. Sound level is fine I have to lower it on the ps5 when I'm plugged in. Great video by the way, if only you did it a couple months sooner I wouldn't have had to do these tests myself 😅 Anyway the external mic problem is real, more than half of them won't work well on the PS5 and they'll either be too sensitive or too quiet and adjusting it on the PS5 won't help much. After trying about 7 different mics $30-100 I settled on the Fifine AM8 microphone and it sounds pretty good my party chat agrees. Volume level is just about perfect you can adjust the gain and fine time mic level on the PS5. Only problem is you will have to buy a USB 3.1 or better cable to get it to work as the cable that comes with it won't.

Over the years, the only bugs I've run into with the PlayStations and wireless Cloud headsets involve the Cloud Alpha actually. At launch there was a bug with the noise gate, which was resolved by a firmware update pushed out by HyperX. Since then it has now moved into randomly having three times the gain it should have on kind of a coin flip. Putting the console to rest mode and bringing it back out of it may snap it out of it. I've had cloud flights and Cloud 2 wirelesses for years, neither had any issues at all on PS4 or 5. Just the alphas for some reason really hate this thing.

Ok… so great video 👍. I have PS5 mic issues with the (not the Pro) Nova 7P wireless picking up every noise (like my shallow breathing), and especially in PS5 party chat mode. I think the bleed through on standard ear cups is the main problem and wondering if upgrade Wicked Cushions would be worth it? I will try to drop my mic volume both on PS5 and bring it down in the GG app from 100% to %25. Would this act as a type of noise gate or suppressor for the mic? Does anyone have any suggestions for the Nova 7P as far as sound Amp/DAC or should I just get new headphones? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I’m thinking of getting an external usb mic because I’m also a musician to and bought MacBook Air M2 to start recording our band. Wondering if I could kill two birds with one stone with a new gaming/studio headphones… Audio Technica has the studio monitor ATH-50X headphones that has a gaming variant with an amazing mic…

Really good comparison to Halo Benny! Definitely hit the nail on the head with misunderstanding the culture around a character. Id argue the same situation around Luke Skywalker. When it cimes to the Suicide Squad game, i would have had Bruce work more like Amanda Waller without the cape and cowl. Workong more like he did in Batman Beyond serving as intel and support. Maybe supplying tech and upgrades. As things escalate he would make the decision to suit up again and either die a hero or serve as continued support in the field over the course of the game.

I've been struggling with the audio volume output for a while now on ps5. My problem is I have a Class D amplifier that I'm using to power a set of bookshelves with, with my pc and Bluetooth from my phone it's great but from the ps5 the output volume is extremely low and I have to max out my amp which isn't good. Funny enough if I plug a 3.5mm to rca cable from the controller to the amp the audio is loud just like my pc. I have even tried audio extractors and it still sucks, so my solution was to use a creative soindblaster Gc7 but I now get an audible hiss from the Gc7. Why sony decided to get rid of optical output I will never understand , my conclusion is they want you tp buy their products.

The overheating on the back of the console was a SERIOUS problem during Evo last year. People had an expensive dongle they had to buy for their controllers because Sony made everyone play on Ps5, and their dongles were getting melted. They want everyone to just use a proprietary ps5 controller, and FGC players don’t tend to have those.

Depends on the headset. The controller has a dac/amp in it, but it's not very powerful. If you have a power-hungry pair of headphones, the controller won't be powerful enough to drive them or get them loud enough.

Not mentioned here is the fact that the PS5, regardless of whether you plug into the controller or a compatible USB DAC, has reduced audio quality (like a compressed mp3) with all wired headsets. I don't know how wireless headsets fare, but I imagine they aren't any better. The controller's headphone amp is also a little noisy if you're using IEMs or something similar. The only way I've found around this is to get audio from the HDMI out instead, which is incredibly irritating. Glad you pointed out the audio latency with non-PCM formats, though, that has annoyed me for years (it's the same on Xbox).

I show the same legitimate workaround way to connect any Bluetooth audio device to the console that you mentioned, as do 99% of other videos in search. You still have the natural Bluetooth latency so not ideal, but it is equivalent in performance to a native Bluetooth feature. It's also a very widely known feature. Please do research properly in the future before throwing shade at other channels by calling them "fake", when you clearly never even clicked on any of them. 👍 Good video otherwise! 😊
