    2 жыл бұрын

@@TheAgingAscetic Using the old 5W charger is good and preferable for the older models of iPhones. Using it for new models isn't recommended though and can do more harm than good. New models of iPhones have inbuilt software which connects the battery and the software of the phone, making 20W the optimal power input for the battery and also making Apple's new 20W fast chargers the best chargers that you can use to preserve your battery for as long as possible. Using less than 18/20W or more than 20W can both damage your battery sooner. I have spoken with Apple technicians and service engineers who all told me this same story. Apple has made their software as such that charging the new models with anything other than 18W and 20W is not optimal. They heavily advised me on not using anything less than 18/20W. Keep in mind that Apple still doesn't have super fast charging or turbo charging, so there is no reason why you shouldn't charge the new models with their new 18W and 20W chargers.

The last 1% usually dies really quick in my experience. But yes, there is a "buffer" if you will call it that. Not really a buffer but there is software involved. And if you had a iPhone before (I hope they stoped doing it now) then you would most likely never see under 4 or 5% before it shut down anyway since they adjusted what numbers to show in the battery %. They had a feature that showed it had 100% for longer just to give an illusion of having better battery :P So when the iPhone finally said 99% it was basicly between 94 - 96% real battery life left.

I bought an older Kindle 7 for like $20 and sideload google play store and you tube. Not sure if the sales are still going on but Kindle Fire 8 was like $50 during prime day. Or you could just wait until Black Friday for the sales to come around again.

So much good information here! One more thing - “fast charging” is 100% related to the size of the battery. The standard 5W charger is ideal for the original iPhone, but the new 18W charger is the SAME for the ~39xxmAh battery in the 11 pro max. It is NOT a “fast” charger. In other words, a 5W charger would charge the original iPhone just as fast as the 18W would charge the new iPhone (within a margin).

Apple optimise software for sell low produce component on higher price. They dont care bout battery longevity. They just don't want offer this kind of feature because it's will be an extra cost. It's like iphone before haven't oled display. They put only LCD because it's cheaper then they marge better. Apple prefer optimise software so they can sell them produce for an high price even if this produce cost less than a Samsung device or Xiaomi phone to produce. But people will appreciate apple because the app on iphone are more optimised... Same for laptop, they offer the best software optimisation, like they propose that and also because for program on mac Os you can use only mac OS if you want optimise that then develloper often use mac Os for programming so app on mac Os even for app whose are not publish by apple are more optimised than windows app or android app.

I love the fast charging of my OnePlus 5. After 3 years I think I've lost maybe 30% capacity? .. so it still lasts for a whole day when in moderate use. More than enough. And even if it gets low because I forgot to charge it at night or used it a lot, I plug it in and it's full in +-30 minutes. It also doesn't get noticeably hotter when charging+using (though no games, only Yt or the browser). I just love it. Would never go back to slow charging.
