    We find exactly the same. This job took a long time 😩 the biggest problem being that it was hard to spend consecutive days on it and get any momentum. And the weather! But it’s done and we are looking forward to 2024 and the new projects and challenges it will bring 😊

    From the small window into seeing your lives you are an amazing couple and parents. Living off grid is not easy, raising kids is definitely not easy. As a kid I grew up on a smallholding it was on grid but the outside jobs are still the same, I spent my childhood going to school covered in something or another from the various morning jobs but I loved every second of the freedom to explore and build camps and your children will have the same. I am now slowly heading back to the smallholding life and although not 100% off grid it will be 90%. It is a series of tough jobs one after another but they are your jobs your land and your life no other individual gets a say. I wish you every success and prey every job goes exactly to plan in 2024. You are building something amazing.

    Hi, love your content, we are currently looking at going off grid in Dorset. Can I ask did you ever manage to fill up that 10,000 litre tank?

  • @The_OffGridFamily

    @The_OffGridFamily

    6 ай бұрын

    Thank you 😊 yes it is currently full and the overflow caused by the rain coming off from the roof is being used to fill the pond. We have worked it so that it can be pumped either from the pond to the tank or the tank to the pond to maximise what we can capture in heavy rain 😊

    @@The_OffGridFamily would you say then, living the way you live, that you would need a 20 or 30 thousand litre tank?

  • @The_OffGridFamily

    @The_OffGridFamily

    6 ай бұрын

    @MiniLifeCrisis it’s really tricky to be sure, but being in one of the driest spots in the U.K. and having children, as well as the poly tunnel and chickens I don’t think 30,000 would be enough for us. This summer we had 12 weeks without rain and we had to compromise on growing food in order to ensure our other needs were met.

    I don't know if this has been asked before, but why didn't you just sink a well or a borehole?

  • @The_OffGridFamily

    @The_OffGridFamily

    6 ай бұрын

    It’s a long story, involving all of those things. We aren’t close to the sea, so had a borehole installed which cost us £2k. It drew salt. We then dug a 6m well which was still salt, and then a shallow well which was also salt water. It’s been an ongoing disaster 😩 fingers crossed this is the end of it 😊
