The privilege of No Legs: Veins

In this video, Spencer is standing on his hands on the floor in his kitchen, talking directly to the camera. At one point there’s a slow Mo montage, where he model walks down the runway of his kitchen looking very sexy. And of course, as always looking very handsome.

    Fun fact: Shoulder replacements exist! People who walk with their arms (this guy is in the extreme end of that but people who are crutches users do it, too) can tear up their shoulders as they weren’t meant for weight bearing. And most docs will say not much can be done. But Total Shoulder Replacement surgery exists. My old hip surgeon did a bunch of them.

  • @ghoultooth

    @ghoultooth

    Only problem is, he will need to use his shoulders after the surgery. Whether it’s wheeling himself around or continuing to use them to walk. That’s why they aren’t all that common of a choice for people who don’t have legs

    True, but he also doesn't have as much weight on him as most people who use crutches so wouldn't he be less likely to mess up his shoulders? Genuinely curious. I guess it could be more of a repetitive use thing than a weight thing...

    A lesson in the adaptability of the human body. You have larger veins and arteries in your arms because there's a higher demand of blood flow because they are also take on the function of your legs.

    May be the case, but that’d be more subcutaneous. The reason his veins show is due to the position of his hands. He walks with his hands in an extended position. The extensors are being worked every time he walks so they’ll keep growing more muscle in turn and the extensors (visually speaking) are responsible for adding vascularity and details on the forearms, triceps, and maybe(?) the shoulders.

    You are so dang lucky for having huge veins. For a simple blood draw, my arms and hands look like I have a pretty serious addiction. It's like my veins recede to my bones the minute the needle comes out. They usually have to use a vein finder on me. I had to have IV antibiotics for 12 weeks then for another 6 weeks. Normal iv's just weren't cutting it. They kept blowing and it was getting pretty painful. I ended up with a picc line in my external jugular and later my inner jugular. Then a port in my chest. When it needed changing I ended up having 6 picc lines in my inner upper arm when everything was said and done. The anesthesiologist was amazing. I barely felt a thing. Getting blood drawn or IVs are nightmare fuel for not only me but the person having to play where's the vein.

    the nurses who take my blood always thank me for pointing them to the veins on the back of my hand because it goes super easy. it took one appointment where they poked me 4 separate times in my arm trying for one vein to learn the good spot is in my hands.

    I'm a recovering needle junkie, and just started exercising a couple years ago. It's hard not to think that I would be able to hit my veins now sometimes, but I've been clean for over 64 months now 🥳
