CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Westley (Cary Elwes) fights Fezzik (Andre the Giant), and narrowly defeats him, knocking him out with a strangle-hold.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Based on William Goldman's novel of the same name, The Princess Bride is staged as a book read by grandfather (Peter Falk) to his ill grandson (Fred Savage). Falk's character assures a romance-weary Savage that the book has much more to deliver than a simpering love story, including but not limited to fencing, fighting, torture, death, true love, giants, and pirates. Indeed, The Princess Bride offers a tongue-in-cheek fairy tale depicting stable boy-turned-pirate Westley's journey to rescue Buttercup (Robin Wright), his true love, away from the evil prince (Chris Sarandon), whom she had agreed to marry five years after learning of what she had believed to be news of Westley's death. With help from Prince Humperdinck's disgruntled former employee Miracle Max (Billy Crystal), swordsman Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin), and a very large man named Fezzik (Andre the Giant), the star-crossed lovers are reunited.
CREDITS:
TM & © MGM (1987)
Cast: Andre the Giant, Cary Elwes
Director: Rob Reiner
Producers: Norman Lear, Rob Reiner, Andrew Scheinman, Jeffrey Stott, Steve Nicolaides
Screenwriter: William Goldman

    Remember the miracle worker scene? He said,"To Blathe! To Bluff!" but his wife says,"True Love." What was the final scene vs the prince? "To the pain-All or nothing with gruesome death." The Dread Pirate knew he was already getting a gruesome death if he failed, so he wagered nothing he didn't already have on the table. So he did bluff... Then you think about God, how he died on a cross, knowing he'd take the pain, just cuz he loves us so much. And if all I saw was this movie, I'd know humanity was worth dying for. Rest in Peace Andre, see you later. I salute you for going off script in Wrestlemania ... 3 was it? and not losing to Hulk. That was entertaining to see them try and not call pins, pins, and the look of confusion on Hulk's face, lol. You truly were an entertainer mr Giant sir.

If he spoke English, it was scripted and well practiced beforehand. He could probably converse, but not speak intense English with complicated words or obscure words. That line about Fezzik not exercising is more true than one'd think; apparently the late, great Andre the Giant, throughout ALL of his career, never exercised in his life. This, combined with his acromegaly and apparent insane drinking habit (seriously, look it up, Homer Simpson *wishes* he had the same drinking habits as Andre!) explains his sadly untimely undoing.

  • @The1Floyd

    @The1Floyd

    6 жыл бұрын

    He had insane natural strength and in his younger years was incredibly mobile. But he did work as a farm hand, sure he never went to the gym and such but he was naturally working out. Andre's number one problem, and the cause of his lack of exercise was his Gigantism which later caused acromegaly (this is why Andre unlike Paul Wight a similarly aged and sized wrestler has a protruding forehead and giant hands). Gigantism on its own does not cause too many health problems, Paul Wight and other larger people can live long and happy lives while being 6ft 11in (Andre and Big Shows real life heights), but acromegaly can develop series joint problems which plagued most of Andre's life. Unlike Big Show and others, Andre did not grow up in a time when the simply procedure to prevent continued growth due to Gigantism was available (you can get surgery now), and as he stopped growing taller, he began gaining large amounts of weight, which as you can imagine is agony. By the time Andre was wrestling Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania 3, he was wearing a brace on his back and ever step caused pain. That's why the match was so short and sluggish, Andre could barely move.
