My mother passed away a week ago. She loved this so much she would play it repeatedly every day. We are playing it at her funeral - it is such a beautiful hymn. God bless you fathers, you brought so much emotion and joy to my mother whilst mourning her husband of 60 years.

I have been to many funerals in my life. Today was another. Every other funeral I have been to there has been music. Today there was none, there were no spoken words from anyone, it made it extremely sad for me, but in my heart I was singing this lovely hymn!

Beautiful voices! But why did they skipped verse 2?
Abella Vidtfeldt It wasn’t the music I was questioning so much as the reference to the venue - “in concert” implying “for entertainment of an audience” rather than music in worship of God. A beautiful song moving the heart to worship God in a Cathedral built for God’s honour and glory surely can’t be referred to as “in concert”.

Since when shouldn't a house of worship to our loving Almighty Father NOT become a concert hall to his praise?

@@elsbethsutherland624 Oh dear. Your comment makes me sad. Life doesn’t thrive by putting things in tight little boxes. Worship can take many forms. Jesus didn’t live like that He broke all the rules- by doing everything with love and liberality. This song is modern Gregorian chant if you like.

The Original Finlandia was an Orchestral piece with no words. The Hymn version was written before the Finnish patriotic song. So there are no "original words" if anything, the various hymns produced with the music are the "Original words"...
