The Pretenders Nailed It At Glastonbury!

Ойын-сауық

There were some great performances this year at Glastonbury one of which is the Pretenders featuring Dave Grohl on drums and Johnny Marr on guitar! I really wish I was there.

What is even more amazing is that this song is about a particularly traumatic incident in her youth (detailed in her autobiography 'Reckless'.). She has taken this very negative episode and turned into a technically and creatively brilliant piece of art. Women are amazing in their resilience. More power to Chrissie.❤❤❤

The Pretenders have only come to my country once, to open for Phil Collins, and I was lucky to be there. Chrissie Hynde has an amazing energy and gave one hell of a set, and there was an interesting moment: The concert had this special seatings right in front of the stage that cost a fortune, while everybody else had to be standing. Chrissie actually slammed the people in those seatings for not moving along to the music and looking bored, and said: "we're not a rich people band anyway", she's awesome

Best set of the festival for me! I saw Rick Astley with Blossoms, performing Smiths songs, then immediately after on the opposite side of the festival caught the pretenders with Johnny Marr (ironically) and Dave Grohl. As soon as it finished I ran all the way to the main stage to catch Guns N Roses, where Dave Grohl beat me there, as he joined them on stage too. I was so happy I managed to catch them all

Chrissie and another Glasto queen of that era, Debbie Harry 🎶🎸 Rock on girls, keep us in awe. I grew up with these gals showing us how to be strong and true in every day life in the 70's. Along with Patty Smith, on the shoulders of giants I stand. I am eternally grateful to them for their power and strength, long may they rock 🖤🖤

Hello Justin , I just want to say thank you for this episode highlighting the Pretenders. I’m a 58 year old drummer , used to be for many years. I am a big fan of the Pretenders since their debut album. Back in the late ‘70’s and early ‘80’s , we were coming off the Sex Pistols ride and hungry for anything remotely punk. When I heard “ Tattooed Love Boys “ , and ” Bad Boys Get Spanked “, I was immediately hooked. As a young up and coming drummer I was blown away by Martin Chambers style of playing and he was a heavy influence on me. I also fell in love with Chrissy Hynde and her voice made me quiver. My bandmates and I quickly adopted their looks and style. I was blessed to have seen them live during their second album tour, I don’t remember dates exactly but, it was at a Cornell University gymnasium in Ithaca , New York. OMG I can’t tell you how great that show was! I will never forget it. It’s so great to still see them kicking ass. Peace p.s. tickets were like six bucks!!

Lucky you, Justin!!!, You will high five/fist bump Chrissie Hynde icon!!!🤩 or have you already done it??? Brilliant performance!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I also wish I could had seen it live and loud, and had the chance to play the maracas🪇. One of my dreams is get on stage and play any little percussion instrument (triangle, tambourine, maracas, hand drum...) But if I could chose one of them, I definitely go for cowbell!🔔😉 Have a great show tonight!!!🥰 🦅🤓...

Fantastic to see. Back around 1993 or '94 I walked into a bar in Chicago where I met my friend Nate, a guitar player, singer song writer, hanging out with Chrissie Hynde. It was a complete surprise and he quickly introduced me to her. Me, being the introverted nerd I am, I said hello and nice to meet you and that was it... I was at a loss for words at that point. Come to think of it, Nate introduced me to Mike Chapman and Dave Grohl at that same bar. Anyway, gushing over or glomming onto strangers that happen to be famous isn't my thing. The possibility of making someone feel uncomfortable that way makes me uncomfortable as well. P.S. RIP John Rowan

I'm about the same age as Dave G and I was learning how to play drums as a teenager at the same time he was. The best I ever got was being able to (mostly) play along with the Pretenders set on the 2-LP Concerts for the People of Kampuchea LPs. This is like listening and playing along with that. The 1-LP version (as on KZread) has just has Brass In Pocket. Do not be deceived. Find the 2-album version however you can, because the three songs are The Wait, Precious, and Tattoed Love Boys -- THIS version of Tattoed Love Boys. And now in my mid-50s I just learned that young drummer Dave was doing just what I was doing with this FIRE version of early Pretenders: Learning to keep up with Martin Chambers' bass pedal! (Trying again now, I can't. He sure can.)

Tattooed Love Boys is certainly one of their more ripping songs… and I LOVE IT. It’s one of my favorite Pretenders songs. And this performance blew me away. What fun! kzread.info/dash/bejne/ep6M0MqNY82-fZc.html
