The Predator: An Unbridled Rage

Ойындар

Well, well;
Who could have predicted that this would be a disaster? The script was leaked and I honestly didn't believe the ideas that Shane Black came up with BUT it looks like a few of them got dialled back.
That didn't change the fact that he royally destroys Predator and another corpse has been shovelled onto the franchise pile.

Hello there! Well, I managed to finally get this video out, had limited sleep and breaks for eating, otherwise I have been stuck in Microsoft Word and Vegas for what feels like centuries. It tough to get done but after many drafts and corrections, it looks like we made it. For those who are wondering, we got the TFA Critique coming up and i'm gonna take a few days to wind down a bit then i'm back on with that, full throttle. I was going to cover Venom but I really want to push on with TFA now, hoping for a early November release, realistically. So I think I will skip Venom to focus TFA. Next up should be Aqua-man in December and after that.......who knows. I shall be posting updates to the Patreon about the TFA critique if you guys want more details, those are free posts and you can check them out here: www.patreon.com/user?u=4817956

Shane Black, a man who was part /of/ the original Predator, a movie in which 3/4 of it takes place during broad daylight and is one of the tensest, most anxiety inducing experiences of all film history, has decided "Muh Daylight = Muh Boring". The idea of changing Predator lore to make it more... grand in scope(?) kind of goes against what made Predator so effective in the first place. The basic idea is that they didn't see us as much more than sport. We were collateral damage in their rituals or hobbies. It's upsetting. It makes you really root for the human.

Thats also the problem with the new shitty alien movies. Predator was a mysterious and monstrous alien that came to earth to hunt for sport. We dont need to know more. More takes away the mystery and if written like this makes it fucking stupid. Same with Alien. First its some mysterious xeno found on some destroyed alien ship. It made you contemplate the unknown horrors of space and how this creature was a perfectly evolved apex predator. The rest was up to your imagination. Then the new movies made them bio weapons made by an insane robot. I personally love the idea that somewhere in the galaxy there could be planets with these apex predators like xenomorphs and that things even worse could be lurking. But no Ridley Scott just said, “lol so like these big pale bald guys made humans and then made a bioweapon that creates xenomorphs lol”

I would love a predator movie set in the future. Mankind is starting to colonize planets. We have a group of space marines on an outer rim world outpost protecting the engineers there that are prepping it for a colony. Little did we know this planet is close to Predator space. A predator arrives and begins hunting a fearsome alien species from this planet. It crosses paths with the marines and they fight. Because of our advanced weaponry and maybe augmentations or something like this, the marines are able to put him down with minimal casualties. They caught him off guard not expecting human soldiers and his gear was for fighting an alien beast. Before he dies from wounds he sends a SOS and his helmet feed to his fleet. Then a squad of armored and more prepared Predators come to the planet and just wreck havoc.

You know, I have Asperger's Syndrome, and I'm been around for a good while (in my final year of high school), so I can say with confidence... that this movie really is an insult to my condition. The only "superpower" I have is the ability to work out certain math equations in my head with few difficulties- sometimes. Beyond that, it is nothing but a problem for me, making it hard for me to speak in complete sentences without stuttering, to be able to connect with people on any meaningful level, and to break out of regular daily patterns without becoming anxious. I do bad in crowds, and I sadly cannot memorize patterns like other people with my condition can apparently do (especially not to the bullshit levels presented in this film). My only saving grace is that I have been lucky and have not been bullied for my condition, because if I was, I'm not sure how I would react (probably either burst into tears or throw a punch of punches out of anger). I know people think they are encouraging people like me when they write characters like this, but they never get it right, because they fail to acknowledge the drawbacks of Asperger's Syndrome, and instead make characters with only the good parts, exaggerated to the point where it is unrealistic and just disrespectful. I have been trying my hand at writing fantasy novels lately, and I like to think I can write some decent stories on my rough drafts alone. When I make a world, I always write out the rules, so that even if my story becomes a bit contrived, it does not break its rules. I do my best to make sure events flow from scene to scene, and while my foreshadowing skills need work, I do at least make sure the setups make sense. How people like this can get jobs in Hollywood, or any other film studios, with such obvious little care for lore, consistency, and dialogue is baffling to me. I know that I at least try, and the people I show my stories to can tell I try even if they don't like what I wrote- these people put no effort into their stories and try to cover it up with cool effects instead of checking the script. If the story sounds bad on paper before you cover it up with "amazing" effects, then the story should never be produced (yet they still do, somehow). Mauler, you have done a fantastic job with all of your rages and critiques, for movies and otherwise, and you have brought me much joy. You are helping my critical thinking skills for story telling, and have provided me with all the evidence I need for my friends when I tell them I hate Disney Star Wars (am loving the Legends Novels so far, though- I'm on a mission to get as many as I can). Thank you for all the work you put into these videos, and sorry if I ranted a bit. I look forward to your critique of TFA.

Playing as the DM is a great way to learn interpersonal skills. It can be a trail by fire and passions can run high but it's worth it. Autism isn't a chain to a wall keeping you separated from others. It's a weight for sure, it will slow you down and it never goes away for good. But the focus and will power it takes to pull that weight will make you stronger.

Remember when the Predator was an alien hunter that considered earthlings lesser beings with enough intelligence to be a decent hunt. Using it's greater technology to stalk, toy with and manipulate it's human prey. A creature of honour, that would not hunt something that couldn't fight back, only those with weapons. A creature that would eschew it's high tech blaster and tools to fight hand to hand, if it's prey threw it's gun away and drew a knife in futile challenge? One that if you were able to defeat it's Brethren, it would acknowledge your ability, and gift you one of it's many trophy weapons gathered throughout the ages, before leaving in mutual respect? I miss that predator.

I saw a documentary about making every Hellraiser movie. The writer and director for one of the sequels, maybe the 5th film, was being interviewed and admitted he had never seen any Hellraiser movie. They hire him to write and direct a sequel and he had never seen a Hellraiser film. Even worse, he couldn't be bothered to watch even one of them. Instead he hired another guy to watch the Hellraiser movies and tell him the basic story, like cliff notes, so he could write another sequel. Summary: "Puzzle Cube opens BDSM demon portal, people die" Add a zip of cocaine and they write a script. This scenario explains Hollywood films today.

Funny thing is, Predator himself in AVPR was not bad. In fact he was done well: he was battle-scarred, he covered up tracks, he was good at taking out aliens and people (in his way). Just that the overall cheap bullshit of the movies, the human sub-plot and aliens were done miserably. The characters were some stereotypes. But I don't get how one can actually fuck up a Predator movie. You can just make a 80's style detective movie with Predator hunting drug dealers and it will be watchable.

Well most people with Asperger's don't act like weird space aliens, they act like social awkward/impaired people. Intellectually, most of them are right around where most people are, plus or minus a few IQ points, they just don't do well in social situations. They are poor at picking up social cues, reading body language, and understanding how non-verbal communication works, but that's about it. They aren't known for acting like they are completely out of touch with reality, like some of the more extreme forms of Autism can do to someone. It's a weird choice because people with Asperger's are decidedly the least "alien" out of all the people on the spectrum, and I say that trying to be as respectful as I can be to such individuals.

So the original Predator had minimal writing input from Shane Black, who had his role dealt with the fastest. Now compare how this film plays out with him as the director outright and you realize we didn’t dodge a bullet, but a mortar

The original movie is a modern classic, because it's a very subversive movie. The guys from RLM made a fantastic analysis about it. The movie starts out,as your typical 80's action flick, with macho commandos, going to a mission into the jungle and then turns into a slasher, but with the twist, that the killer is not some Jason or Michael Myers character, but a beefed up alien, armed with some awesome tech. You see these manly men ,losing their shit,as they're getting murdered one by one,by the Pred. In the end only Arnie is left, his squad all dead,no weapons left and fighting the Pred one-on-one,isn't an option, because the fucker is too strong, even for him. So,Arnie uses his cunning,to trap the Predator,in the end he won, because he outsmarted him. The new movie on the other hand,is just a Rated-R version of Suicide Squad, with lots of ''yo momma''-jokes,CGI-blood and a story that throws the entire Predator lore, out of the window, similar to what Alien:Covenant did with the Aliens. For example,it is established, that the Preds hunt for sport, not to gather DNA or some bullshit.

This movie is a perfect repesentation of what's wrong with Hollywood nowadays. Back in the day, from the late 70's to mid 90's,you could pitch an original idea to a studio and if they liked it,they would gave you a moderate budget and let you do your thing. This is how we got Star Wars, all the early Spielberg movies like E.T. ,Jaws,Strange Encounters,Indiana Jones,Terminator,Ghostbusters,Alien,Predator,Back to the Future,Robocop etc. etc. etc. Nowadays, the studios won't finance an original idea, they only make movies, based on existing IP's,like comics, videogames, books etc. or they take an older IP,like Terminator,Alien,Star Wars or here Predator and reboot/remake it and completely screw it up during the process. The only exception was Mad Max:Fury Road, because the original director/writer,George Miller made it happen, the studio was actually not interested in it and he had to struggle with them for years,to get it done.Same thing, with the Karate Kid show,Cobra Kai,which was made by 2 guys who are huge fans of the original.

My friend and I are huge Predator fans and we were both horrified by this movie. The main plot is about a CGI monster trying to weaponize autism. Yeah, because that's what the original makers of the first film had in mind.

Calling this 'movie' fanfiction is an insult to fanfic authors as some of them put earnest effort into writing. What the fuck has happened to writing quality where people on the internet can write better than the 'professionals'?

Yes there are good fanfiction stories out there, but c'mon. Get real. The staggering majority of fanfiction merely exists because creative thinking is hard. Their stories thus have huge problems due to their own lack of confidence and often lack of writing experience; ridiculous contrivances, gaping plot holes, and they often break the very characters they seek to emulate. To say something is like fanfiction is not to hark to the very best of the best, the 0.00001% of Fanfiction that isn't total vomit.

Hollywood has an intellectual wall around it and if you don't push their agenda you don't get in, so in a complete echo chamber they write utter shit surrounded by yes men and others devoid of logic or talent approvingly supporting their scribbles.

RyanKaufman Pretty sure that JammyONE wasn't saying that all, or even most, fanfictions are good. He's saying that many of them are young, amateur writers that have actual ideas, even if they aren't good ones. Comparing them to the so-called professionals that create vapid movies like The Predator, who put little effort into anything, is an insult.
