    DUDE Blender 3.2 was released almost a year ago and I somehow I never got told that we finally have Light groups! This is a gamechanger for everybody with a slow PC who cant just rerender a scene just to make small adjustments. Thank you very much!

    well done covering these, Portal was another Light which Blender Guru has a video or two uses, and maybe CG cookie, blender is so versatile. You also have laser if you utilise the free Luxcore Renderer. As a photographer too it's good to learn photo lighting techniques we use in the real world as you correctly mention, good work and hope you have an awesome time in Japan.

    This is always good info to go over again. I use Eevee for my animations. I fake global Illumination by adding lights, for example an area light on the ground pointing straight up imitates light bouncing off the ground. You actually get more control that way, artistic license at the cost of mathematical accuracy. It works for animation.

    You forgot to discuss custom emission lighting methods for specific situations well the standard lights are not the best. Also how to light specific surface to ensure the best render of subsurface, cavity, reflections, volumetrics and ambient occlusions. This I guess was more of a general overview of lighting in comparison to traditional lighting used for photography and filmmaking. Ok thanks for the link to the old build on blender I forgot about the GI Eveeve build. I downloaded it ages ago before and totally forgot about it.

    Nice video as usual. Just one question, do you know if the Blender foundation will enable passes by lightgroup ? Ligthgroup are great, but for VFX, lightgroup + passes will be better. Actually I make a different scene inside Blender to output AOVs by lights but if 4 lights, 4 rendering process, 4x time to render.

  • @KaizenTutorials

    @KaizenTutorials

    Жыл бұрын

    Thank you! I'm not sure if I am the right person to answer this as I don't do a whole lot of compositing etc in Blender. But afaik you can have renderpasses, render layers and light groups all as separate layers. If you then use an addon like Super Image Denoiser and combine all these into proper exportable EXR layers you can just render the entire thing out in separated EXR layers, while still maintaining control over each layer in regards to your renderpasses (e.g. mist etc), separated render layers (with cryptomattes) and light groups. But I might be overshooting Blender's bounds here haha!

  • Жыл бұрын

    @@KaizenTutorials In production I use Renderman, Arnold render, Guerilla Render and it's "easier" for passes and LPE. For my personnal or commercial personnal projects I prefer Cycles because it's faster to produce image using GPU and iterate and if needed, cpu produce the same render. And it's easier to send it to an online renderfam and no converted data textures everywhere lol. The only missing thing right now, for me of courses, it's to have lightgroup that output also diffuse, color and co in one render specific to lightgroup. I use multilayered EXR in Davinci Resolve (Fusion page) And send back my 3D part to denoise after compositing (to avoid problem with sampling when using substractive compositing to extract and modifying data) in Blender to do like, I think Super Image Denoiser (one pass with ODIN and after one pass in command line for Optix temporal denoiser). The denoiser in Davinci Resolve is good but not really for 3D. I need to automate my process with a script for the denoise part but have good results.

    Will Eevee Next include IES lights?

  • @KaizenTutorials

    @KaizenTutorials

    Жыл бұрын

    Not sure if it ever will. But with EEVEE Next there will be a lot of changes to make EEVEE more realistic. Think in terms of making it more like Unreal in a sense and mimicing Cycles more. So it might just include IES and other lighting features!

    I like the soft box idea but blender light bounces tend to have problems with emissive surface lighting and the soft box setup seems to make just as much noise as an emissive surface. Any ideas for how to reduce the noice when using the soft box method?

    That's weird.. did you plug it into the right socket? Also the plane needs to be close to the light source. You can also mix it with a mix shader and a transparent BSDF. Then change the factor to get the result you want!
