Fenderfan1975 analog is a continuous wave where digital is a series of numbers that may have “breaks” in it. Then there is compression of the audio. The upside of analog is it sounds better has a “warm” sound to it. The downside the recording media degrades every time you play it. Digital for all its faults the audio quality never degrades. It sounds the same no matter how many times you play it.

One of the best songs of the world!

It is a remake! The orginal one is from 1980, they remade it in 1986! If you listen closely you'll hear an extra word when he's talking about Nabokov....

Yes this song was remade in 1986,sadly Steward Copeland suffered a broken collarbone in the beginning stages of recording and both he and Sting got into an argument over which type of drum machine to use and it eventually led to their demise as a group as we know it. They did reunite on several occasions but did not tour again until 2006-2007

Timeless 31 years still pumping miss those days badly .........time slippery ng away ...............

I loved this 86 version, to me better then the original.

I prefer this extended version of DSSCTM 86, because in this version there's Andy Summers solo guitar that I really like. Superb solo guitar

I had this in 12 inch vinyl. I wonder where that is now. I hope it has found a loving home.

If anyone had noticed the references in the beginning of the song. The band was finished. Of course in 2007 they reunited because someone needed the money.

From what I read on Wikipedia is that they(the police) were going to re-unite after Sting's 1st solo album. This was the song they decided to "modify" but things didn't work out soooo....

If I remember rightly.. They were going to do a album of there hits.. Re modified... Finished this then fell out again... So they just released a greatest hit instead.. Shame really..

The sound was changing, from ghost in the machine, they were incorporating synthesizers, because in the English new wave Pop was predominating over Punk Rock. I agree that it has a duranie sound like a new moon on Monday. I like both bands. From The Police I prefer the last two albums and from Duran Duran the first 4 over the rest.

I like it but to me it's really a sting/Andy summers collaboration, not the police because the drummer was out with a broken collarbone, hence the drum machine ( for the few who didn't know that piece of history) peace
