The Police - Definitive Edition Demos (Ghost in the Machine)
Музыка
This is a fanmade collection of several demos from the 'Ghost in the Machine' period.
The tracks come from some studio sessions made by Sting, who wrote and performed these songs with the support of Jean Roussel on keyboards.
The bonus track instead is a live version of 'Can't Stand Losing You' performed by The Police in 1979 (unfortunately the last thirty seconds are missing, my fault).
I'm not the creator of this fanmade collection. If I'm violating any of the terms conditions, I will delete this video.
Tracklist:
1. Spirits In The Material World - 0:00
2. Invisible Sun - 3:13
3. Hungry For You (J'Aurais Toujours Faim De Toi) - 6:18
4. Too Much Information - 10:09
5. One World (Not Three) - 13:42
6. Secret Journey - 16:40
7. Invisible Sun (Alternate) - 20:33
8. Secret Journey (Alternate) - 24:00
9. Don't You Believe Me Baby - 27:42
10. Don't Think We Could Ever Be Friends - 31:52
11. Don't Think We Could Ever Be Friends (Take 1) - 35:29
12. Don't You Look At Me - 39:11
13. It's Never Too Late - 44:02
14. Don't Give Up Your Daytime Job - 47:49
15. Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic - 52:34 *
Can't Stand Losing You [Bonus Track 1979.04.03] - 56:41
*This was tacked on to the end of 'Ghosts in the Studio' and is obviously from a different source to the other tracks. It sounds like a complete version of "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" but you can distinctly hear a click track in the opening bars.

I can't believe some of the songs they left off. So good. Sting was on fire. Fucking brilliant.
I'm reading Andy Summers' book "One Train Later" (pg 295) and he goes into detail about these tracks, which are Sting's demos. I am glad that these exist to reference exactly what Andy is explaining.

Don't You Believe Me Baby would have been a big hit if released.
It amazes me how overlooked Secret Journey is. Even Summers said he thought it should have been have a single. I honestly like both of these versions just as much as the official album’s version.

These demos give us a really cool glimpse into Sting's song production process. For instance, if you recall the style of the fade out vocal on the final studio recording of "J'Aurais Toujours Faim De Toi (Hungry For You)," you can hear the same fade out vocal on "It's Never Too Late."
27:45 - 47:50 I heard this demo while traveling through Lima, Peru in 2018, initially I thought it was a Sting song, but then I realized that they were the demos that were recorded at the AIR recording studios in Monserrat de the Ghost era in the Machine......
"Don't Think We Could Ever be Friends" would have likely been a hit. Actually, I think Sting used the blueprint of the song for "We'll be Together" which became a hit later in 1987,
The verse chords in Don't Give Up Your Daytime Job are just like Saturday In The Park by Chicago.
Man this is so cool, very interesting to hear these demos Sting brought into the studio for GITM. I could just imagine Stewart & Andy looking at each other while listening to a couple that didn't make the cut though lol! Much thanx for this.

These demos would have sounded amazing g had Andy and Stewart played on them . We know how vital Andy and Stewart were to the police sound. It's why I think many people wondered why stings solo music was so different . He never could have duplicated the sound without Andy and Stewart. That shows u how amazing their chemistry was despite their frustrations over musical creativity

Don't Give Up Your Daytime Job is gold.
So cool to hear these demos. As a lifelong fan of The Police it's interesting to hear where Sting was at at this stage of his career. The tunes that didn't make the album definitely foreshadow his solo career sound. If I had to pick, I wish "Don't Think We Could Ever Be Friends" made the cut over "Rehumanize Yourself" on the actual album....And as much as I love Ghost In The Machine, respectfully I'd love to hear the tunes with no saxophone.
This is awesome! I was always a huge Police fan and there are a few songs on this demo I've never heard before. Amazing to hear a new Police song after 40 or so years. I gotta say they cut the right songs off this album. Thanks for posting this!!
This sounds like when i was high as hell back in the late 80's and i was listening through my huge Radio Shack headphones played from an RCA tape deck !!!
Interesting demo material. Very keyboard and drum machine driven. As far as I know, Ghost In The Machine is the only Police album that had demo material recorded, before the polished studio recordings were actually made. I`ve never heard any other demos from previous Police album. So, if you're looking for some interesting rare demo material by The Police, this is the stuff to get.

Some of the ideas from early Police songs began in Last Exit. That’s where you find some of the beginnings of early Police material
Imagining these guys gearing up in the studio and Stewart, Andy each have a few songs or so for the band to work out and Sting goes "I have here about two dozen.. fully realized DEMOS!"

Sting played for Stew and Andy a new song by Grace Jones. They really liked it. Sting then goes, "I wrote it!" Haha. "Let's do it." They did but with a Chicago blues flavor. Song's called Demolition Man.
'Every Little Thing she does Is Magic' : At its original speed before Hugh Padgham 'tweaked' it a smidgen resulting in the slight odd key and Sting's voice sounding a fraction higher pitched than normal.
Don’t You Believe Me Baby was a banger.
The demo of One World is so relaxing.

Never heard this demo . great post . thank you.
An amazing demo collection of an album that was life changing.
Amazing! Even these demos are superior to the stuff that passes for music these days.
"Don't You Believe Me Baby" ROCKS!! Although, "I Can't Stop Thinking About" You sounds very similar...
This is phenomenal
This is an incredible document. You can see what a genius songwriter Sting is. But, in the final product, Andy and Stewart give his songs life. As contentious as it was, this artistic collaboration was next level shit.
better then the released versions
Impressive how nearly-complete these songs were of the ones that made the record. One can understand now why Stu and Andy felt they were relegated to a backup band. Yet, this was still a great record that I consider their peak effort. Sting's solo career was very successful but nothing he did was anything close to what this trio put out in their short time together. It's a shame they didn't just take a few years off to do some solo works and then continue their journey in the late 80's. On the other hand, it's clear from this demo it wasn't really a band anymore. It was Sting and the 'other guys'. I never got to see them in their full glory in the early 80's. I did see them twice on the reunion tour however and enjoyed it, even though it wasn't the same band who took the world by storm, it was a just shadow.
new wave
It is my favorite song off that album... And on a great stereo up loud... It truly moves my soul!!!!
Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic - pretty much went out as per the demo. SC said they couldn't improve it.

I Burn for You was a song Sting wanted to do forever, but Stewart and Andy thought it wrong for The Police as an album track. However when suggested for the film Brimstone and Treacle it fitted. So the did it there, adding in the Bass coda that was originally played to Shadows in the Rain. Low Life dates from 1977 and has the same heritage as Roxanne. It's about the red light district in Paris. You can tell it is not from the ghost sessions, but from earlier studios.

Look for Sting and Last Exit 1972, half these songs were already there. In bits.
Every Little Thing She Does is Magic sounds like the album recording before it was sped up. It sounds out of tune because I’m so used to the pitch on the album. The tape was sped up for the final album so it’s slightly faster and about 50 cents sharper.

It would have been great if they stayed together for another 2 or 3 albums at least, but ego got in the way.
