As the music video became the dominant force in promoting new music at the start of the 1980s, The Police were one of the biggest bands in the world.
Stewart Copeland is not only the legendary drummer of The Police, but also a composer, producer, and filmmaker who has contributed to various genres and media.
In this exclusive Video Rewind episode, he shares his insights and memories on some of the most iconic music videos that he and his bandmates Sting and Andy Summers created in their heyday.

Stewart is still one of the best, and coolest, drummers on the planet.

And Matt Cameron.
The only drummer who can say he played a Saturn 5 space ship. Pretty cool.

Hahahahaha.
Quick speech: The term "national treasure" may be overused, but Stewart Copeland has earned it. Patriot, musical innovator, skilled raconteur, prolific father, consummate performer -- this man has left his mark on the world, in the best way. Charge your glasses and hoist them now: Here's to Stewart Copeland -- huzzah! 🤠

international treasure, I'd argue.
We were a boy band. Best comment over! Stewart is a treasure.
Best drummer alive
Dear Sting, say thanks to This Genius.
He gave the world The Police. ❤
It's literally hit after hit, love it! I saw Sting live with my dad last year and he still sounds and looks incredible, I can't believe he's 72!
The police always look to be having so much fun. It’s infectious ❤

in the first videos... yes... I mean, you are drumming with a spaceship! a spaceship !
I have some Police VHS tape from the 90s, that is similar to this. Its Stewart introducing every video, but they show the whole nusic video for each song chronologically. Been awhile since ive seen it
Supergrande Stewart Copeland 🙌🙌🙌🙌
Love Stewart. Really one of three stars of the police.
Excellent renditions of the Police Videos. Thank you. I'm glad I got to see the Police at the height of the band's fame. Rochester, NY, Summer of 1983 at now long demolished Aquinas (Hollander) Stadium. I remember winning tickets to the Synchronicity tour after naming the song question from a local radio station of the Hollies, "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother." Concert line-up - The Flock of Seagulls, The Fixx, and the Police. First song of the Police, "King Of Pain," Sting on Bass, a back-up musician on key boards behind him attempting to play the opening chords to King of Pain, but is doing the wrong chords.. Sting was a "Perfectionist." Quite irritated, he walks back, bends over the keyboard and shows the player how to play the correct chords. Anyway, a fantastic outdoor, afternoon concert. But my one take away was that funny opening moment with "King Of Pain." 🙂
I'm gutted he didn't take a look back at 'Wrapped Around Your Finger'. That was surely a very memorable video.

Three talented pretty boys!
GREAT DRUMMER !
Love Stewart !!!
Stewart jumps high off that high ladder in Don’t Stand video. And you know they spelt Seezer wrong. The actress is Phoebe Cates cousin!

That crazy that you wrote that. I always thought that girl resembled Phoebe Cates! Thank you for finally connecting that for me!
Stuart! Great stuff here. Thanks for sharing! Look forward to seeing you with the Orchestra soon !
Thanks so much for sharing your memories. I had the biggest crush on you when I was in college 😂
1. Ghost 2. Regatta 3. Zenyatta 4. Outlandos 5. Synchronicity (My ranking)
3:45 Technically any drummer that has played a Mapex Saturn five piece drumset has played a Saturn V. Considering the price point of Mapex sets, I suspect that's a lot of drummers.
* "Sting had started out with his (fretted) _JazzBass_ ", is what he meant during the "Roxanne" clip 🙂
Saturn 5!
And he did the Rumble fish score...genuinely Great
Hi, Stew! Looking forward to seeing you with Oysterhead in the future!
Where were you at for the Don’t stand so close to me video? The room with the ladder.
You seldom hear about sibling rivalry between him and Miles. It either was very underdeveloped or very overdeveloped. I can't get all Freud about it, but it must have factored heavily into his association with Sting.
"And there were 'The Police', or, as they're now known, 'Sting'"
Dressing rooms back then were basically the same as a football team’s.
come back to Canada and play the derangements with my other fave band, the mighty ESO?
There's an interview Sting did many years ago where he said he had no idea what Every Breath was about. The stalking thing only came about in the last 20+ years, PR gimmick.
soo funny
When it was about the music…….
