Honestly, that was the funniest line I’ve ever heard on an ATV channel. And that’s also the reason I got out of riding around here. It’s turned into a party with huge sxs, 30”+ tires, big stereos and twinkling lights. Nobody goes to actually ride anymore in south Alabama unfortunately.

Been wondering if Polaris will add DYNAMIX to the Scrambler and make it their highest performance model. Polaris did something like this on the snow side with the Indy snowmobile a few years ago. The name made a comeback in their lineup after years and started gaining recognition over the RUSH and then it sort of disappeared for a season only to make a triumphant return as the new platform and highest performance model. Could happen with the Scrambler. It's a great ATV. 🤔

@@maraudermitchelli truth be told it was my first. IS my first. Started with a school bus. Ranger crew xp1000. I drive for a living and hitting the trail in that monstrosity just wasn’t getting it. Wanted to be IN the woods not driving through them. Seeing how totally nuts people are up there on the weekends I wanted something bigger and more stable to start on. At least that was my original thought and why I bought it. As it turns out it’s a LOT more machine than even I expected. From handling to ride quality and comfort it’s just an amazing machine. That said I want to get OFF “the beaten path” and would like a smaller bike but would still go for a 1000. I’ve been on some smaller machines and although 450-600 class is PLENTY for those kinds of trails and riding I LOVE the added power when you need it. Anyway, that’s my story. Lol

My knee jerk reaction is that I'd cut the Sportsman S before the Scrambler S, but Polaris isn't stupid when it comes to making money, so it must be pretty significant in Sportsman S to Scrambler S sales that they won't risk it. Option 2 is most likely. In consideration of option three: being that I used to work at big P's RD&E center, I can see Dynamix being integrated into the Scrambler. It would probably have to get an uprated Stator-Generator, and likely higher engine output to keep up with the higher electrical demand. With regards to option three's cost... well... We now live in a world where 1,000 cc sport bikes are fairly comfortably in the $20,000 +/- $3,750 range, and those units are not really different to the Scrambler 1000S when considering they are, "built for purpose," machines. Hell, given the choice between the Scrambler and something like an RS1, I'll take the Quad 10 days out of 7. The issue is there probably isn't enough of "us" out in the marketplace.

    1. Pre pandemic my dealer had a Sportsman S and Scrambler S that sat on the showroom floor for months pre pandemic. My dealer is a high volume dealer outside Washington DC. The economy is static in DC. 2. The Scrambler's width is actually illegal in a lot of states for public riding. If you look up the original press release junoets for the Scrambler, they mention the need for lobbying from Polaris to get the rules changed. 3. Polaris dropped all race support and dropped their racing team. The Scrambler was "made" for xc style racing... but can't fit through trees. Conversely it's not great in BOTW or Baja. 4. The 1k Scrambler "Non S" is still made but you can't get it in North America. It has a few upgrades since the end of it's run in the states like e-throttle. The biggest issue is Polaris charges a premium for their products, then they're double the price to maintain. The S also had issues with QC when it first came out, especially with axles. The price and size aren't competitive either with "two-ups" for carrying your Mud Cricket to Whiskey Tango 5-30 gatherings.

I thought the concept of the Scrambler S was stupid back in ‘19. Just what the world needs, a super expensive, 900 lb quad that makes a fluky grown man look like a small child riding it. It is way too big and wide for the majority of my riding areas thus I’d have never been interested. I agree with your statements on SxS’s being more about the social aspect then actually using them simply for the enjoyment of riding/driving. I purposely make new trails too narrow for SxS’s to use because I don’t want to get hit by some drunk driving one too fast. They are so dang big that they take up the entire trail.

I received a Polaris survey a couple years ago, asking my impressions of the 'S'. I replied it was of no interest to have an ATV incapable of traveling on 50 inch trails that even some UTVs can negotiate, or to have an ATV whose weight hovers around 1000 pounds. This just doesn't make sense. In multiple surveys (including one about an electric ATV), I told them the #1 item they needed to focus on was to improve the quality and reliability of their workmanship.

I’m assuming most people have not seen a scrambler jump to understand ? The differences in dimensions, suspension, tires, wheel size, travel, differentials, and weight makes a big difference in performance. Now that Polaris has removed the Walker Evan’s from the sportsman, there is no stock to stock comparison. Sportsman for utility, trails, and moderate sport / scrambler for balls out sport and jumps. Running through a bunch of these videos as I have just found this great channel. Unfortunately manufacturers will charge what the market can bare. If prices are going through the roof and people are still buying them then it is the customer that is setting the standard and not the manufacturer. If customers want, in this case quads, to be cheaper then simply quite buying them. Either the quads prices gets reduced or they go out of business. Capitalism at it's finest. Again, because I want to be clear on this, it is the customer that sets the price. If we would only pay half the price then that is what they would cost.

I honestly hate the idea of bigger and wider. I liked the original scrambler 500 except for the chain drive, killed the ground clearance. An updated Scrambler 570 with a smaller chassis than the sportsman and a reasonable msrp would definitely be a great seller. The older midsize sportsman 400 chassis would have been perfect. The 570 would be plenty powerful enough in a 600 lb machine as opposed to an S model weighing 1000 lbs or more.

@@DirtObseXXion In my opinion, shaft drive was one of the best innovations in atv design. Its basically maintenance free, chains are always needing to be tightened or they pop off. I feel that most atvs other than sport quads have got a serious weight problem. We've simply accepted that in order to have a powerful 4x4 machine with a comfortable ride, it has to be huge and heavy. I'd give up some suspension travel and ground clearance to get a smaller machine that is more nimble. You wouldn't need as much power either. I think if each manufacturer offered a smaller 4x4 option that cost less, they would have no trouble selling them.

I feel like these machines aren't really showing their full potential when buying this type of quad. I'm only saying that because of our past experiences with the quad. My father owns a 2021 scrambler 1000s and during the past 6 months of owning it, the quad has overheated a couple of times on simple flat trails and only recently ripped a rubber boot from going up a hill. Polaris answer when we address these issues to them wasn't very pleasing . They said basically they don't cover these issues from their warranty. The rubber boot that ripped we noticed was more of a design flaw but they claimed it was human error. So buying warranties from them is just not even worth it in my opinion. Our quad was sent to our local dealer a month ago to get parts replaced, we are still waiting on parts. Don't get me wrong, the quad shows what it's capable of in some certain spots when we trail ride. Just what we dealt with on the trails and the response to fix these problems wasn't very professional. I owned a '20 raptor 700 and for the money, I felt like the raptor has proved far better in capability and price point than the scrambler did for what we're going through on the trail. We'll see how the my father's scrambler will drive after these issues are fixed.

@@DirtObseXXion yup that’s exactly my point as I am one of those guys who prefer a quad where you can not only control it using your body but also fit in places a SxS can’t. Really though you can get that from a bunch of other quads for way less money and you don’t lose the ability to ride the 50” trails which are generally way more common at least in all the areas I’ve ridden. I know it’s not the same everywhere but at 55” in my area you are generally going to have to ride either off road parks or buggy/jeep trails. The parks in my state are a lot of fun for sure worth the admission but that’s something to consider. The bigger trails are a lot of fun too but usually they are WAY rougher then the ATV trails from being bogged out by some pretty nasty machines I know plenty where a scramble S would struggle to even make it through and some you wouldn’t want to try without a cage. I think if they had kept it at exactly 50” with a lower price point it would have done really well I mean they addressed pretty much every issue with the original I’d have traded mine in just to get the upgraded suspension, differential and exhaust no question if I wouldn’t have lost the ability to ride local trails. Hell if they took it a step further and offered the new ride command I would probably have even paid the higher price but given it had the exact same restrictions I’d have with a SxS I’m more inclined to keep my sportsman and just buy an RS1 for the best of both worlds.

To be honest I hope the scrambler goes away all together, I bought a brand new 2021 Scrambler 850 in April of this year. I couldn’t be more disappointed with the quad, I ended up paying about 13k out the door, but it was brand new from a dealership so I said fuck it, 2 weeks later my brother came home with a brand new Sportsman 850, nice wheels bumpers front and rear power steering and decent mode, all the bells and whistles and he payed 400 dollars LESS than I did. I still wanna drive my scrambler right through the dealership window that I purchased my quad

This and snowmobiling are no longer a pedestrian sport. Polaris knows this and it's why the crank their MSRP so high. Their margins are a lot higher with LE models.

I think that's pretty accurate... They'd rather sell less machines at a higher msrp than more machines to more people.. That's why the Base Model Sportsman XP1000 is gone

And people constantly bitch about the grizzly and other Japanese bikes not get in a significant upgrade. First of all I love my grizzly and after a few aftermarket parts it's as fast as an 850 and way more capable. I'm glad Can-Am and Polaris are pushing the envelope but at the same time I think it's funny that Yamaha and other Japanese bike owners are constantly asking why don't they do something crazy or significant? Well I think we have our answer. They've been making these bikes for 12 years and there's just not any money to be made in crazy investments that won't guarantee more purchases. Speaking as a grizzly owner. I can sit here all day and say of course I would buy a new 850 or 1000 grizzly. But for every person that says they would only one and 50 might actually do it. I would think I would like to do it, but why when I could just upgrade my Grizzly. This winter I'm adding a cam a piston and some Springs to my grizzly and it will give me everything I could possibly want and I bet you anything I could compete or even beat a scrambler S on tight trails.
