The pointless football club

Спорт

I visited the only team in Scotland's top six leagues WITHOUT a point this season. Strathspey Thistle of the Highland League hold the unwanted record but hopefully they can pick up some points again soon.
What a cool football club and Grantown-on-Spey is in a lovely wee area of the Highlands!

    Ahh, My team! As Executive Season Ticket holder No1, I'm very proud of the mighty Strathspey Thistle. We are never short of goals at Seafield Park. Unfortunately, they are overwhelmingly scored against us. Here's a fact or two about Grantown they forgot to mention at the museum.. Aung San Suu Kyi, former President of Myanmar and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, used to live here, along with the Russian concert pianist Nikolai Orlov, who is buried in the local graveyard, and ex-Rangers owner Craig Whyte, who used to live in Castle Grant until Rangers hit the rocks and when into liquidation. The castle was then bought by a wealthy Russian.. who was promptly arrested for fraud and thrown into a Russian prison. Oh, and we have another famous resident just outside town, Bob Dylan.. yes, THAT Bob Dylan, who could occasionally be seen wandering around the local Coop. Never a dull moment in Grantown.

    Love these stories about the lower tier clubs. I especially like to hear from the club staff about the how and why of what they do. I live in Connecticut, USA and I volunteer for a team in a college summer baseball league, probably the closest thing we have to the 7th and lower tiers of Scottish and English football. We struggle to raise the money necessary to keep the team afloat and we work hard to show the fans a good time. I understand the struggle and I understand why Rob and Donnie McLeod and others do what they do. If I lived there I'd be right there with them. Sam - please consider coming here next summer when European teams are on break. Here in the northeast there are several MLS clubs along with a second tier USL Championship club and many fourth tier USL League 2 clubs, plus a club in the women's pro league. There's excellent train service between the cities in question. With a little planning you should be able to catch several games and create a few reports your subscribers will enjoy. I'm 100% sure you could get the USL and NWSL clubs to cooperate with you, and I'll bet you know the right people who could introduce you to the right people at MLS clubs. I know you can't do it if it doesn't make financial sense for you but please consider it. Best of luck Sam.

    As a former Brit who has become an American it would be great if American 'grass roots' football (soccer) really took off. It's all very well having David Beckham (ex-Man Utd) own a team and bring in Argentina legend Lionel Messi to Inter Miami but the US needs American players to look up to. I am old enough to just remember the NASL with Rodney Marsh,George Best,Franz Beckenbauer and Pele...and it still flopped! 😢

    I liked this video, one of my favorites of these lesser-known teams. That seems like a cool club and area. As for promotion-relegation, 10th in League Two absolutely should go down automatically. Then either have one promotion spot to the Highland-Lower playoff winner or have the winner of that get promoted and the loser play 9th in League Two for a place in League Two the following season.

  • @stevenmcghee6649

    Turkeys don't vote for Xmas, though, so I doubt the SPFL clubs would vote that amendment through. No club has yet managed to return to the SFL having dropped out of it. Even having the Highland/Lowland champions meeting in a playoff with guaranteed promotion for the winner would be better than the current set-up where the bottom SFL club has a 50% chance of avoiding relegation.

  • @GenialHarryGrout
    @GenialHarryGrout10 ай бұрын

    There is no automatic promotion to the Highland League, not that there are many licenced teams below the Highland League able to be promoted. The Highland League needs to open up, so the bottom club is automatically relegated and not have a play off, which doesn't happen every season anyway. Stathspey avoided the play offs last season because none of the 3 tier 6 champions could be promoted. That is a nice setup at Stathspey

    A great place to visit is Crombie Park of Culter FC in the SJFA North Premier Division. It's a typical junior ground in my home village. The shield on the club's crest comes from the nearby Rob Roy Statue. There is an agricultural field at the other end of the village in an area called Pittengullies, where Culter once played Orion (one of the clubs merged to form Aberdeen FC) in the Scottish FA cup back in 1895. They also held Partick Thistile to a 1-1 draw at Crombie Park in the 2011-12 Scottish Cup, earning them a replay at Firhill. Last season they won all 4 domestic competitions. A friendly community based club. I now live in Oban, but I'm still an ST for Aberdeen, but I alway buy and ST for Culter to help support them and attend their matches when I can.

    According to chat Gpt A Strathspey is a type of dance tune from Scotland. It holds a significant place in Scottish traditional music. Here are some key points about Strathspeys: 1. **Rhythmic Distinctiveness**: - The Strathspey has a unique rhythm that distinguishes it from other dance tunes. It's characterized by a dotted rhythm, which is often described as a "Scottish snap"-a short up-beat note followed by a longer down-beat note. This rhythm creates a swinging feel which is integral to the dance. 2. **Dance Origin**: - The Strathspey is both a style of tune and a Scottish country dance. The dance is performed in a slower and more stately manner compared to other Scottish dances like reels and jigs. 3. **Tempo**: - It's typically performed at a slower tempo, which allows for the distinctive dotted rhythms to be expressed clearly. The slower tempo also matches the more formal, stately nature of the Strathspey dance. 4. **Musical Structure**: - Strathspeys are often composed in a simple binary (AB) form, though some can be found in ternary (ABA) form or other structures. They are typically in 4/4 time, and are usually written in a major key, although minor key Strathspeys do exist. 5. **Historical Significance**: - The name "Strathspey" refers to the Strathspey region in Scotland, which is where this style of music and dance originated. It has become a symbol of Scottish identity in the realm of traditional dance and music. 6. **Usage in Other Forms**: - Beyond traditional settings, the Strathspey rhythm and style have influenced other forms of music. Some composers outside the realm of traditional Scottish music have utilized Strathspey rhythms in their compositions. 7. **Instrumentation**: - Strathspeys can be played on a variety of instruments, but are most commonly associated with the fiddle. The fiddle's ability to play slurred and dotted rhythms makes it well-suited to performing Strathspeys. The Strathspey's distinctive rhythm and historical roots make it a cherished part of Scotland's musical and cultural heritage.

    A few months ago, I started an FM23 save with the Scottish lower leagues and randomly picked out Strathspey to play as because their badge was blue and it caught my eye. It was really hard, and I can kind of understand why last season was rough off of my first season on that save, but...yeah,. Hoping things turn around and they stay in the league this year.

    Strath is a major river valley and it's "SpAy", not "Spee". The Gàidhlig spelling is Srath Spè, which gives the "ay" sound in English. It's a good strong, long "a", too, so "Str'thspaay" would be a more accurate rendering.

    While i do think the title was harsh. 😅 You should try to do a Milton Keynes stadium tour and Wimbledon fc stadium tour Sam. 😊 You should go on the Highland League podcast one day. 😮 Scotland should qualify for Euro 2024, they need one win i think :) Nice match vlog. You should go to the highland League more such as Brechin and Nairn county!
