History of french consonants (or vowels) would be awesome. I don’t speak french but I do know it’s gone through a lot of changes, arguably more than English.

Pff. This video is very, very interesting. Even the vowels have been changing in the last years. 👍👍👍

Exactly no one realizes what's happening because the change in ones lifetime is relatively insignificant

I never knew /eɪ̆/ was such a recent diphthong, relatively

Well I mean it's barely a dipthong, the start and end point are very close to each other (it almost sounds the same as long e) some american english varieties still consider it a monpthong, if you would go back in time and someone said "what's your name?" Someone who hasn't heard about this diphthongazation probably won't even realise it, and vice versa. But cool nonetheless.

@@atbing2425 Since I've started learning Spanish, I've noticed my pronunciation of this diphthong shift from /eɪ̆/ back into a long /e:/. (I'm from California) I suspect Spanish has had a similar effect on other people, especially in the southwestern US

Yes, but if you notice the British accent vowel diagram from 3:40 over, you see the diphthong ei starting to become more open, something that isn't happening in us.
