The Phil Collins Big Band - Documentary (1996)
Музыка
The Phil Collins Big Band was a side project of Phil Collins, which performed in between 1996 and 1998. This documentary was broadcast on the BBC in 1996.
This is the 1996 documentary where it all starts. You'll see the rehearsals, the problems they encounter working towards to the first live show. Taken from VHS, so not the best picture quality, but I sill hope you'll enjoy it. Some parts of the live concert footage was cut short due to copyright infringements.
Band members:
Nathan East - Bass Guitar
Daryl Stuermer - Guitar
Bard Cole - Keyboards
Luis Conte - Percussion
Harry Kim - Trumpet
Daniel Fornero - Trumpet
Arturo Velasco - Trombone
Andrew Woodfolk - Saxophone

I watched a VHS of this many years ago prior to the second Big Band Tour (1998) which I got to be a part of. Really quite a remarkable project on Phil's part and a blast to be a part of it. He was great to work with musically and personally. He played with sheer joy and never let up the entire tour. He gave 110% and expected the same of us.
What a thing! Musicianship, vision, togetherness, work ethic and performance resulting in sheer entertainment. One for the records.
RIP Tony Bennett. What a thrill to see Phil working with world's finest musician on this project. It's like reaching his dream with the help of best musicians in the music history.
Interesting to see this after reading about it in his autobiography. Phil is a true professional.

@@phenixreturns I agree with you on Phil Collins but Ringo Starr?? lol You can’t be serious. I can respect what they contributed to popular culture and music at the time but Ringo’s name shouldn’t even be mentioned along side the true masters of the instrument.

wow. just wow. Phil and Co. im glad they got this on film.
I remember as a child. Songs like his. Was awesome sound. ❤ Best of the Best. Great job, Phil.
It's so cool to see Phil work in his area of expertise. Awesome to see. Thank you for this upload!
Start a big band? You can't read a score, no problem. Play for a 'party' for the English royalty at Royal Albert Hall as your first gig. No rehearsal, no problem. Just because you are an international rock superstar....Phil who? Had Tony Bennett ever even heard of Phil Collins? But Tony sure seemed to enjoy the experience. Bravo. Now give mum a hug. (Phil you ARE a good boy) Montreux Jazz Festival, no problem. Lost Mr. Bennett's bags, wonderful. Where is Mr. Mandela? Oh well, the show must go on. Pow! Mr. Collins wears his humility well. This man is cool, talented and so professional. Very cool. Amazing, really.
💙 I've always loved (and miss) big bands!!🥰 I love the drums, horns and the POWS!! 😃And I LOVE Phil explaining his magic process!! Call me crazy but I just looove to immerse myself in music with a good headset! That's my addiction!❤❤❤ Thankyou Phil!!!😘😘😘
Another great documentary. He ran to greet Mike Rutherford and his wife and I loved his mum's comment about "your still going to do the songs you sing too, right?".
It’s awesome seeing him doing his own drum tech work. I don’t have a big list of musicians or actors (Actually very few) that I would like to have meet/met but Phil Collins is definitely one of the top on my list.
Absolutely amazing documentary on my favorite artist of all time. Saw them play in 1987 here in indianapolis
I love Phil such a magnificent man!!

I've seen both Shows on July 17th. of 1996 at the Montreux Jazz Festival. First at at five o'clock, 2nd around seven or eight o'clock. What a fantastic time it was!
45:56 A case of the interviewer not listening to what Phil says, Phil also looks a bit annoyed: Phil Collins: "Tour manager didn't get his wake up call" Interviewer: "I hear someone didn't wake up this morning" Phil Collins: "Yeah, that's the tour manager" Interviewer: "What happened to him?" Phil Collins: "He didn't get his wake up call" Duh!

What a spectacular drummer!
Remarkable and Fabulous Phil. Thank you so much for this documentary. From Paris, Thanks.
Awesome!!! Great job! ❤
RIP to the late Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones, who was very positive of Phil's venture into jazz, and to Tony Bennett, who had the opportunity to join Phil, Quincy and the orchestra on stage.
Nathan East, bass player extraordinaire. David Sanborn on sax, ok. Singer, we need a singer....how about Tony Bennett, he's a pro. Now who do we get for a director? Of course, Quincy Jones!
Sensacional, ótimo vídeo, Gostei muito, sou fã demais de Phil Collins, amo a linda voz dele, canta muito, Top demais, abraços amigos
Great. Thanks for sharing :)
Phil Collins very best singer in the world very best video
"It's not his life. It's another piece of his life" Charlie Watts (RIP) friend of Phil's and drummer for The Rolling Stones
A fascinating doc. Kudos to Phil for taking this on. Swinging a big band is a completely different job than driving a rock band. It's so plain to see (hear) on the "Burning for Buddy" recordings. The difference between the rock and big band drummers tune to tune is night and day. Phil took on the challenge and did a very good job. Learning the tunes by ear vs. reading the charts was smart. BTW, Buddy didn't read, he played by feel and had an amazing memory. Swing is a feeling and can't really be written. Good job Phil!
💙💙 EXCELLENT PHIL, I am so proud of you for this Awesome project, Super Classy. 💙💙💙🙏
Wow! Sorry, Glenn. I think I love your different music styles more than I love you!!! Awesome! Brings such memories! Lol Love you anyway. Wish you had more shows. ❤😊
12:58 the fact that at one point there was a big band arrengement of Wot Gorilla is hilarious to me and yet I am thankfull it exists because I love that song😂
😎🇺🇸Fantastic. LOOKS GR8! LOADS OF FUN PRACTICING FOR THAT!!!🎶

Brilliantly thank you Mr Phil and all........ John 3 16 🙏
Спасибо! Это очень "нежно потрогать". Англоязычный рок.
Music for music's sake. It will all be gone soon.... how depressing.
Charlie Watts, rest in peace✌️! 48:16
I think Phil is loving that pow!!
He's got David Somborne "BRILLIANT "....
where's is that "Wot Gorilla!" jazz version? it's really really cool.....amazing how Mr Collins is such a workaholic!

Absurd. For a time his voice and his music may been ubiquitous, due to primarily hard work and talent, but you can be sure millions of people never even knew he was playing the drums on litterally EVERY song he was singing. Not to mention knowing nothing of his most technically advanced drumming in Brand X.
