    Hi, Amazing video. I noticed that his other arm is tilted slightly upwards when he breathes, which causes a minimal upward propulsion, while the other arm is more horizontal when he is not breathing. Is this common & best practice?

  • @TheFRENCHSwimCoach

    @TheFRENCHSwimCoach

    4 ай бұрын

    Thx ! No, this is not common (it tires the shoulder muscles a little more) although touching the surface with the hand can be an exercise when I have a swimmer who has his arms falling towards the bottom of the pool

    Great video as always! At 1:00, can you please explain in more detail what you mean by the “internal rotation” and why it is important?

  • @TheFRENCHSwimCoach

    @TheFRENCHSwimCoach

    3 ай бұрын

    Yep: "internal rotation" means put the elbow hollow downward toward the bottom of the pool to effectively catch the water. Because the catch is essentially a bending of the elbow... So if your elbow points toward the ceiling, catching effectively becomes impossible. Hence, internal rotation starts from the shoulder!

    Just one question. 5:45 you say that we have less drag inside the water, but at the same time all coaches emphasize the importance of staying up as possible with a straight line, to reduce drag. So which is the correct idea?

  • @TheFRENCHSwimCoach

    @TheFRENCHSwimCoach

    You can be aligned AND submerged also parallel to the surface of the water. By doing both, you allow yourself to be horizontal in the water. If you're "only" aligned, you're not sure you're horizontal. 3 principles of the projectile body out of 5! Is it clearer ?

    In the video a tip he said would be to sink the head below the water so you get less wave turbulence and your legs rise.

    @@Moiatmoi7 No, it wouldn't. If you are going fast enough, the crown of your head should create a small wave that will act as a pocket for you to breath in. Even if you aren't going fast enough to create the pocket, it still isn't difficult to breath (unless you are doing open water or something similar). Try it out, I would like to hear how it went :).

    the hardest part of wellbrook at least for me is maintaining such a constant 6 beat kick I struggle a lot trying to. The catch and Pull I managed to do it like that but since my stroke is too slow I avg about 55 strokes with 2bk in a 5k I am trying to increase stroke to 65 but it is becoming harder dont know if it would be better to upgrade 2bk to 4bk with same stroke rate.

    Your kicking cadence depends on what you are going to put on your arms, in terms of power/acceleration of the stroke. I advise you to stay focused on your stroke rate only. The legs come into play "automatically", I will talk about it in a future video. However, keep your stroke rate so as not to go through. Thanks for the comment

  • @ChandanSingh_80

    @ChandanSingh_80

    This drift happens when extending yourself for long stroke but you see the glide helps to negate the drag. Almost every swimmers who extend and glide with high speed fingers drift upward as they have relaxed muscle throughout the stroke.
