    I appreciate your analysis of Hackett's stroke, but especially your comment about not pulling the arm too wide (the comparison with a muscle-up was well-stated.) He also has tremendous maintenance of momentum, as do all great swimmers. Lots of factors go into that, but as a practical matter for the self-coached, it helps to watch the bottom of the pool - the tiles - to look for that continuity of momentum; all the checkpoints that contribute to continuous momentum should be monitored.

    Thx, yes, momentum is a keystone that is not always easy to master. And it's not easy to know what to do to get there (knowing that it will always depend on the swimmer's acquired/not acquired skills)

    Thank you for making these videos. They contain advanced and complicated technique points, but at the same time cover fundamental and basic principles for freestyle swimming. Your videos are my favourite on the Internet at the moment and I hope you keep making them as they are very interesting. Sun Yang, Muffat and Romanchuk all use the sub merged head technique which I haven’t heard anybody talk about until your videos Another swimmer who seems to follow and use the principles that you refer to in your videos is Mack Horton. I would be interested to know what you think about the different kick tempos, and techniques in terms of overall contribution to efficiency and speed. As I said, your videos are my favourite at the moment and I really hope you keep making these videos as I am learning a lot. Thank you

    I am sure you have this in your French videos but another thing I am wondering about is the late entry, elbow going first into the water. Is that related to staying in a streamline position as long as possible? Some athletes seem to enter more with a flat forearm, and place it on the water surface. These are quite specific questions and not really relevant to basic freestyle, but you seem to be the only channel that makes these advanced freestyle videos. Thank you Pierre.

    @@GB-ib2wn I talk about it in some videos which have not yet been translated. However, even if it works well for an advanced swimmer, it is a bad idea for others because the elbow often falls towards the bottom of the pool.

    Interesting to me is that he seems to use a 90+ degree bend in his elbow. On the opposite end of the straight arm pull and recover used in the 50 meter sprint... He is also swimming more the 'gallop' style while the swimmer next to him has a more even gate/stroke.

    Because he's not breaking down sprint technique for a 50, but rather efficient techniques for distance. A runner who sprints a 100M doesn't use the same form, cadence or techniques as a miler.

    in general, sprinters take more depth, therefore straight arms, and long distance swimmers less, therefore elbow bended.

    1.Which is the key element to focus if I want to be under 4 min in 400 free ? 2. How our kick look like in 400 means fast like 6 beats kick or like sung yang one stroke one kick and other stroke 3 kick?

  • @TheFRENCHSwimCoach

    @TheFRENCHSwimCoach

    5 ай бұрын

    1/ It depends on many things, but with my swimmers under 4 minutes, I was focused on technique 95% of the time. No need big sets every day 2/ The leg kick coordinates with your arms, so I'd say let it happen based on your pacing management for the 400.

    Interesting i've heard coaches say not to submerge your head as Hackett does. Would you suggest holding your breath then exhaling all at once before you turn to breathe, or trickling out the breath gradually. I've heard both methods suggested.

  • @TheFRENCHSwimCoach

    @TheFRENCHSwimCoach

    5 ай бұрын

    Without talking about physics, just look at swimmers immersing themselves more and more over the past 50/100 years! For exhalation, both methods work but it depends on the level: the more you progress, the more you will exhale on the last movement and breath every 2 strokes. I will make a video on it

    You can have a great/good technique but if you're cardiovascular/respiratory isn't up to scratch you won't keep it going I've noticed this from not running/cycling as much as I used to The cardiovascular/respiratory isn't as good as it was when I was younger 60 years old now Can still do sub 1.30 100s but distance swimming takes a hit on times 1.40-1.55 avg per 100
