The Parable of the Sower

What can we learn from the “reckless” way in which the Sower sows the seed of the Word? Is a person always in the category of shallow soil, thorn-choked soil, etc. or are these not static categories? How does the parable intersect with Isaiah 6 and 55 and reflect the seed imagery of 2 Esdras? In this week’s video in Reading the Gospels through Hebrew Eyes, Chad Bird will lead us through the opening section of Matthew 13.

I never considered the idea that we may be all different types of soil in different seasons of our lives. That is incredibly helpful in encouraging humility and ensuring we watch our lives and our doctrine closely.

I had never made the connection between idols "which do not see & hear", and the people becoming just like them. Neat stuff. Thanks.

What a blessed teaching Clearing up that these soils are all of us at various times not permanent and no boasting of the fruit it’s all gifted to us we receive our Fathers good gifts and made aware of what trips us or who can deceive us I’ve never been taught this parable in context it’s always troubled me🤔 Our women’s group is starting this parable this week I’m looking forward to it Blessings!

Thank you very much dear brother for your efforts in nurturing the seeds and growth of faith. Horticulture and faith culture are hard work. As you say, the evil one specializes in creating adverse growing conditions to deliver as many as possible to eternal death. The consequences of root failure are severe, so I participate in liturgy, nurture with biblically rich hymns and follow you to maximize hopeful blooms. Your scholarly and true hand tills the soil for us in this hostile growing environment.

loved this expansion of the parable of the sower. I learned many new details I had never heard before It felt very good on my soul. most importantly the teaching: that it is the Lord and the spirit that gives us the ability to respond to the truth. A soul...specially made to long for the truth. That it is not on me. The Lord will make the way and carry me there as I am shedding all my burdens on Him. What a beautiful day He has made. thank you pastor Bird.

Great teaching, Chad. Thank you so much❤🙏🏽. I really didn't know about that deep wisdom in the parable of the Sower, and that these were not " fixed categories" of people hearing the Word of God. Be blessed in the name of our Lord Jesus. Amen🙏🏽

I am new to your channel I am so glad to come across this. Your teaching on the parable of the sower was so helpful to better understand what Jesus was teaching. How do I get some of the resources you used to explain the parable. Once again thank you.

Thank you for this. I have a question as to what exactly the fruit is. Apart from the parable of the sower in the first 3 gospels, John also talks much about fruit esp in chapter 15. Isa 5 had some mention of fruit being righteousness and justice/judgement. But I still feel there's more to it. Could you please shed some more light on that? Thank you.

I tend to think the fruit is left unspecified because it encompasses all good that results from one’s life.

What exactly is bearing fruit? is it after hearing the Word bearing fruit would be going out to help a widow or help a charity? Or is it the response to the word of God. He says in the parable that some will bear 30 some 60 some 100 what exactly does that mean? Obviously 30 is less than 100. Does that relate where Jesus talks about those who have been forgiven much will love more then those who have been forgiven little?

Bearing fruit is a life characterized by sacrificial love and service to the neighbor.

The Accuser was the first "future faker." Most abusers future fake on some level. They promise what they will not and cannot give. If Jesus is "first" in your life, rather than being known as the very Life you have, Central, Foundational, then the cares of this world will sometimes become "first place." Gold coins, surely mirages, can never be the Seed which the Old Sower gives!

I am not sure it’s ok to tell people there is nothing wrong with riches. Most people can’t handle riches without it becoming a distraction from God. Riches are like credit cards, some people can handle them correctly and most people can’t. As soon as you tell everyone that credit cards are on it used correctly, everything thinks it’s only an issue for other people and not for themselves.
