Lately I’ve been thinking that I could leave this town
I’d cut back on my drinking, stop this running ‘round
Playing songs ’til after midnight, staying up till dawn
There’s something in the dust and wind that keeps me hanging on
And I never thought I’d live to see the day I’d say “goodbye”
I ain’t crying, that’s West Texas in my eye.
I’ll be your blue eyed bandit if you’ll be my renegade
I count a thousand tumbleweeds roll by me everyday
I’d like to grow a rose and stow it in that desert sage
Like a message in a bottle floating down the open plains
Where the Llano Estacado rises up to meet the sky
I ain’t crying, that’s West Texas in my eye.
I’ve seen the thunderheads descend and rip into the ground
The twisted hand of heaven spreading terror all around
Sending farmers into deeper debt and ranchers to the grave
Where towers mark the end of time with slowly spinning blades
’Til the water table falls below the reach of humankind
I ain’t crying, that’s West Texas in my eye.
Lately I’ve been thinking, I could leave this town
Cut back on my drinking, stop this running around
Playing songs ’til after midnight, and staying up till dawn
But there’s something in the dust and wind that keeps me hanging on
And I never thought I’d live to see the day I’d say “goodbye”
I ain’t crying, that’s West Texas in my eye.
I ain’t crying, that’s West Texas in my eye.

I've know Ryan Binghams music for years and didn't even know he acted. Started watching Yellowstone a few weeks ago and trying to get people that watch the show into him. Know a few people who didn't even know he was a musician. Show has a great soundtrack.

I've lived in West Texas all my life. 41 years. It's in my blood. But it's time to move on. I can't do the dirt/wind anymore, not with the asthma my youngest son has. So this song really hits home.

When we moved from California to grand junction , Colorado, (western Colorado , On Utah border , I thought the desert , and wide open spaces were so ugly…at first …then I came to discover the wide open spaces, the huge starlit nights , those cotton candy clouds and blue skies , and Beijing ale to see the storms roll in from mile away, as something truly magical, as you Said , which perfectly describes it (western Texas is so similar , it’s a kind of beauty that one can only appreciate , after living there for years and years , it’s always part of my blood.)

Wow. So yeah like others I was watching Yellowstone tonight and I didn’t even wait until the end of the scene. Paused and did a google search immediately. No ties at all to the West Texas region but holy smokes… really good songwriting always grabs my attention and the lyrics used here to invoke imagery paints pictures that I can not only see but feel without even having to have ever been to the place they’re singing about. Almost like it can start to make you think the same way about where you’re from. I love the stripped-down old school country Americana sound… almost reminds me of the Highwaymen. Love that stuff so I will be checking out the album as well as all the guys’ solo stuff. Pretty stoked lol

I may live in Tennessee now where I was okay with it b/c tons of UT fans, just the wrong UT. But being born in Texas never leaves your blood. From Amarillo, Clute, Lubbock to Big Spring. This song made me miss those vast clear night skies. Even those storms rolling in you can see for miles. Outsiders see West Texas and think 'ugh', Texans look at it and see endless possibilities.

I was born in San Angelo raised in Lubbock. Met Charlie through an associate at work. He was intense. Quiet. Observant. And you could tell he was different than the other folks who come to the counter. Having seen and lived it all including the most recent Tornado in Matador. The baseball hail in Lubbock. Losing so much and seeing others lose so much more… This song hits me right in the feels. Y’all got me Rollin up 27 all messed up. Cause this song is what it is to be a West Texan. And, if you ain’t lived every word, stand by. You will.

Love this song! Having lived in Abilene for 7+ years, I concur that there is a certain draw to that West Texas sunset and landscape. Moved many years ago to the BCS, TX area. Our youngest son graduated with Will from A&M Consol HS. I remember the day our son first brought Will over to the house saying Pops this is Will Clark and he's a singer and going to be a good one. Like most parents of a HS kid, I had obvious skepticism. That skepticism has been proven misplaced! We have seen and listened to Will (also the others in this group) over the years, mostly at Hurricane Harry's in College Station, and always enjoy the show.
