This song hits my heart like sledge hammer too the chest. Made to many damn mistakes in life, hurt to many people and let my kids down to many times to count. Went to prison for 8 years, buried my wife and many friends along this lonely road. Got out of prison reconnected with my kids met an amazing woman getting married and now have 9 years clean and sober. We bought a house and a few Harleys doing good for ourselves but most of all my kids still call me dad and tell me they love me. Head up! Shoulders back! Never give in!

Started drinking when I was like 12...Joined the army in 2005...Saved my damn life...Grew up in a family full of alcoholics...It wasn't abnormal to be my age and drink a beer as my dad would gladly give me one to have someone to drink with. I got out in 2016 and became an alcoholic. Ptsd is bad, my wife finally had enough one day after many nights of us not being able to sleep. I got sober, after almost drinking myself to death. I downed a 30 pack and a bottle of jack...I wanted to die...Don't make the same mistake

I read he wrote this song when he was 18 years old. Reading his life story and what he has been through;with parents who suffered through substance abuse problems(both have passed since), riding the texas rodeo ciruit and traveling through paris france practically homeless- all before 22 years of age; is nothing short of remarkable. A lot of musicians sing the life of rough, rugged "country". Ryan Bingham has lived it. I wish you well on your journey man.

When I die, Lord Oh, won't You put my soul up on a train Won't You send it southbound Give a cool blues man name 'Cause I've been lost on them back roads And many times, I've gone blind Losing faith in my family Had drew me out my damn mind But on the south side of heaven Won't You take me home 'Cause I've been broke down for so long And Lord, it's getting cold I've been a desperado in West Texas For so long, Lord, I need a change For ten long years This old place ain't seen a drop of rain Now the wind blows everyday, Lord Oh, like a desert snow Like a lost bound train Running on cocaine and out of control But on the south side of heaven Won't You take me home 'Cause I've been broke down for so long And Lord, it's getting cold Long down the Louisiana byways Lonesome highways roll on Oh, won't You take me where the poor man lives It's where I call my home Can't you see that breeze Nothing but a change in pace Money can't buy my soul 'Cause it comes from a hard earned place But on the south side of heaven Won't You take me home 'Cause I've been gone for so long And Lord, it's getting cold But on the south side of heaven Won't You take me home 'Cause I've been gone for so long And Lord, it's getting cold

Are you kidding me?! I've been searching YEARS for this song and now I stumble across it without particular intention?! I remember seeing this on TV back then, nearly ten years ago, being one of the first country songs I perceived as such (not much contact with that type of music over here where I live), and obviously both the singer and the song/video have been stuck in my head since then. But I couldn't remember neither his nor the song's name, and it has bothered me for such a long time. And then, just minutes ago, that name (and thumbnail) strikes my eye between all those other videos and I instantly recognized it. Man ... how happy I am now. This just made my day.

This song reminds me of my life as a ranch manager. Most days I wish I was back to working livestock and driving big ol feed trucks 14-18 hours a day. It is a lifestyle that only a few love. I'm one of them and it was ripped away from me by greedy bastards and an administration that hates the people that feed the country.

Thought it was about a year or 2 old at the time...seeing it uploaded 13 years ago makes me wonder at 29 years old..how I've been blind to this peice of gold...didn't grow up poor at all..but "money can't buy my soul cause it comes from a hard earned place" just brings tears to my eyes. This video looks exactly like where I live and where i've grown up now. The first video I ever saw of his, and I knew from that moment i'd love his music. But over the years now, i've come to realize how much I truly relate. The best music to me writes my soul and heart. I often run out of things to say, how to express how I feel, why I always just let music speak for me. Not everyone will listen though. Not everyone's spirit will find the truth. Too many people lost in greed, power, hatred, and everything in between. But i'll always be grateful for this music. Even this ends up being the last words I ever type. Just know some of us truly believe and have been inspired by honest, down to earth music.

THen he sang a half a verse and I was like Ryan Bingham. She thought I was full of shit. So I had to IMDB him and then ask alexa to play south side of heaven while we paused the episode. "I was born a cowboy way out west in New Mexico” Yep I'm from Hobbs, New Mexico, the same little oil patch town that Ryan comes from. When he sings about this place not seeing a drop of rain in ten long years and the wind always blowing, he's singing the truth. I was lucky I got out, but perhaps I wasn't so lucky after all. Strange but whenever I smell diesel fuel it reminds of that place. As a young child the flare from the refinery was my night light.
