As an Army veteran: This appears to be the legacy of the American military thus far.. Poke our tentacles in an area where we shouldn't have been, get internationally embarrassed and pistol smacked around; pull up our tent stakes; leave billions of dollars of weaponry strewn all over the place and then CUT AND RUN🏃‍♀️, leaving even some soldiers behind! SAD! 😠

    1. "Area where we shouldn't have been" >9/11. Do I need to say more if you are really a veteran? 2."Get smacked around" >The US withdrew front line forces years ago. The ANA / ANAF got "smacked around" 3."Leave millions of dollars of weaponry" >We gave that equipment to the ANA / ANAF, which they promptly turned over to the Taliban. 4."leaving some soldiers behind" >We left no US military personal behind. I doubt you're actually a veteran, and if you are, I doubt you have a combat deployment.

Truly a disgrace. Whether or not you support the military or any war America has fought, the way veterans are treated after putting their lives on the line is disgusting. Shame on the VA and the entire US government. This chapter of American history will be remembered for 2,000 years as the otherwise preventable fall of a once great democracy.

But overall, Americans are actually doing compared to some other countries a relatively good job with the extraction . I’m German, and so far we are far behind other countries with our efforts in comparison, and our red tape is severely hampering the rescue efforts of Afghan people who have worked for years and decades with us. Only now the official line is being changed to focus more on saving lives than paperwork. So, I was thinking more of us Germans than of the Americans when writing this. The French for instance transport their nationals and others from the French embassy in armoured cars to the airport, Germans have to make their way to the airport themselves, which in itself already seems to be a potential road to death.

We couldn't give them any type of heads up on our missions bc there were problems with them telling the Taliban what our plans were and the taliban would set up ambushes. I hear these other vets talk about these terps that saved their lives but that's definitely not what we experienced!

Before the fight a soldier asks his commander when are they going to receive their salary it’s been 9 months. Commander responds that they will surely get paid. The firefight lasted for about 3 hours, they were running out of ammo with no resupply, and 3 wounded who needed critical care. They called special forces to distract the Taliban while they made a retreat. In the end 1 wounded ended up dead and moral was at an all time low. Also no air support. Eventually after succession of small victories the Taliban made their way to Kabul. Afghan higher command in order to avoid bloodshed told their soldiers to stand down. All while there president fled with tens of millions if not more in money.

They literally made no conditions, just said "we're pulling out on this date, have fun". I'm annoyed Biden didn't stop it from happening, but he didn't initiate it, he didn't do it solely for political reasons, he looked at the plan as it was, and saw no better option that didn't involve indefinite military presence. I'm not a fan of the decision, but Afghanistan isn't his failing by a long shot, it's a collective Bush/Obama/Trump fuckup where they didn't come up with a solution to the problem they created, they just kicked the can down the road.

  • @sykessaul123

@@DemonNitrix Problem was America thought training the soldiers how to shoot western weaponry would be enough. What they didn't teach them how to do was root out the corruption that was constantly undermining the other resources the soldiers had available to them i.e. food and pay. According to journalists on the ground, many of the Afghan troops hadn't eaten in days and hadn't been paid in months. It's hard to see why people would want to fight when they can't think about anything aside from their empty stomach or how they're going to feed their family. The majority of Afghan people were living more free lives than when NATO went in 20 years ago, many supported a democratic system, the problem is there isn't enough infrastructure in the majority of the country to have a valid election. Why isn't there money for said infrastructure? Corruption. Govt high ups and low downs funnelling money out of projects and into their own pockets. Same problem in a lot of the world.
