This is a lie, "protect yourself at all times" was the evolution of the original expression "protect yourself from Chael Sonnen", a special warning from the ref to anyone who dares to step in the ring against the best p4p fighter in the history of combat sports

Chael. When I was introduced to MMA, you were the first person I saw fight. You won. You were humble in victory. I don't see that very often these days. I am a fan.
Chael. You are wise and informative. I love watching you fight.

Bishal Singh Very good. He stole a round from Khabib (presumably the first time Khabib has lost a round) after the beating he took in round 2, and he took Khabib to round 4 for the second time in his career. And Conors ground game/guard work was really good. Go and compare Barbozas first round vs Conors first round.

Protect yourself at all times
Tony Ferguson the type of guy to tell the ref "protect yourself at all times" before the match.
" I can't let you get close "
If you want to make enemies speak the truth, sometimes Chaels the bad guy because he speaks the truth.
The 24 dislikes are boxing fans .
Good to know
Chael “I’m just offering you” Sonnen
What time zone you in homie
I saw a video with brandon schaub and he said what chael said about the khabib vs mcgregor fight word for word verbatim
Do you know the origins of the future undefeated, undisputed, simultaneous Bellator and UFC heavyweight champion of the world "The American Gangster" Chael P. Sonnen? He was born in the mean streets of Portland Oregon and on October 13th he's going to remind the world who the real G.O.A.T is.
"i cant let you get close" at all times.
I just realized that if Schwaub & Callen had a kid, it would be Chael. Random facts and "Did you know" 's, with a beast of a work ethnic.
I can’t let you get close
“I can’t let you get clos-...”
good ol uncle chael
A great lesson, good example, and absolutely something that every fighter should never forget. But, "protect yourself at all times" was being said way back in the 1940's at least. Perhaps even before that. You can see and hear refs saying the exact phrase in numerous archival examples. Mills Lane famously continued saying the phrase before every big fight back in the 80's. It's all good though, Chael P!
@miguelpacheco2726
2 жыл бұрын
I too remember Mill Lane saying that . I use that "Line" with both of my daughters right before they go out of the house.
Hell you should protect yourself at all times outside the ring to..
Are telling me someone was a bigger lock then the dream team to win a gold medal
So how does that logic function with GDR and Holly Holm???
It's like that infamous floyd mayweather moment. When Victor Ortiz attempted to apologize for an accidental headbutt and floyd crack him and won by knock out. Protect yourself at all times was the lesson from that incident.
Honestly had no idea that Chael still fought.
Undefeated and undisputed
And this topic came from what exactly ??
like this!
These vids always feel longer than they are.
Conor was doing was he was supposed to do and had to protect himself when the other guys got within striking range. What if the guys who jumped in the ring had a weapon?
what y’all up too this late ?
Todd Foster (USA) vs. Chun Jin-Chul (KOR)
Its funny to watch Chael just make up these stories. Of course this didnt happen, other than a guy got knocked out one time when he heard a distant bell.
I wish you well with your fight against the original GOAT, hope you win, protect that fuckin chin of yours.
so what we're really saying is, khabib was just protecting himself at all times, and what he did was fine. i agree.

this is the greeting i greet my family n kiss my wife with before i go to bed or leave to work....n they luv it.
I believe the fighters name was Eric Griffin
I heard the tap.
and here I thought the term came from Wilt Chamberlin's bedroom
Apparently chael does read his comments.When I said throw first punch I lm talking about the dolly incident,conner the media and the ufc both screwd up for promoting those stupid antics.Kahbib retaliated big fucking deal.at least conner didn't get jumped like mayham miller did against the Diaz possy.Even though I don't agree with you sometimes your still the GOAT!

Cheal is right about the rule itself and why it exist, but his story is all wrong. Protect yourself at all times has been a rule in boxing way before 1992. Plus no boxer on the 1992 US Olympic team lost by KO. There were two boxers that lost in the first round of those games from the US Julian Wheeler and Vernon Forest. The boxer that was a lock to win the gold in 1992 was Vernon Forest. Forest was the 1992 junior welterweight champion going into those games and had beat Shane Mosley to get his spot on the US team. But the night before the first round he got food poisoning and lost to Peter Richardson in the first round on points, not KO. Now, in 1984 Evander Holyfield did have a similar situation happen. The ref calls break right as Holyfield is in the middle of throwing a combo as the last punch lands and the ref DQ's him causing him to go home with a Bronze instead of a Gold Metal. I'm sure Cheal probably mixed these two stories up, or he's talking about some other event. But this rule has been on the books longer then these two games I mentioned.
@readcastor2977
5 жыл бұрын
@@notatechguy1209 One question. How did Forest lose to Richardson in the first round on points? That makes no sense. The only way to win by points is by finishing the entire fight. So if it ended in Rd 1 then somebody had to either get KO'd or they quit...
@notatechguy1209
5 жыл бұрын
@Read Castor, The fight didn't end in round one as I said none of the US fighters were KO'd that year. The final score of the fight was 14 to 8 for Peter Richardson of Great Britain. Forest just had a horrible fight. This was after they went from scoring rounds in the amateurs and you got points only if the judges hit there button at the same time on scoring punches. Scoring was kept like Comubox but the judges had to hit the button at the same time for a punch to count. This change to the scoring system is what allowed for Roy Jones Jr. to be robbed in the 1988 Olympic games.

I'm not getting on Cheal here his facts are just wrong.
I offer this to you, that despite the loss to Khabib, we still really don't know.. just how good.. Conor Mcgregor is.
Artem Lobov is the GOAT of eat slap!
This man called Mike Tyson a fake champion. Obviously, he's no older than 16, if not physically, mentally.
What Chael means is that: protect Conor at all times
But this just bring us to the question, how good Conor Is? and Where does Kevin lee fit into this? and Chael is definitively going to Offer us something.... "Intangibles" and "Speculations"
I’ll offer you this....
