Around 2011-2012, I met an old friend of mine who was an Olympian boxer (he won an Olympic bronze medal at light welterweight) and he went to canada to pursue a professional career that was cut short after a nasty eye injury (he was 12-0-0 with 7 KOs). He told me that he used to train with GSP helping him with the boxing side of his game. He said that GSP is, by far, the strongest man he ever knew and he described his strength as something unreal. His words were : " I felt that I was dealing with a man made of iron".

@@cicatrace There are plenty of fighters who have said GSP is on PEDs. The ability to go longer, stronger is a bigger determining factor than skill in a fight if the talent is even remotely close. Do not think so? Watch the TRT era fighter during before and after the trt ban. GSP sure does know a lot about PEDs that effect the CNS and improve reaction time. Seemed like Rogan had never heard of them, but GSP knew what they were and how people were using them. He may be the nicest guy in the world, I do not believe a word he says. If Matt Serra hadn't hit GSP with that "lucky punch" GSP would have 20 straight title defenses. To give you a perspective, Mighty Mouse Demetrious Johnson has the record with 13 straight title defences. And one was taking the higher weight class champion. Anybody who knows anything about MMA knows he's the current GOAT.

GSP = GOAT ! Silva and Jones are out of the conversation as far as I’m concerned. Testing positive on multiple occasions for PED‘s being the reason. Having said that, the only other person with similar credentials is Demetrious Johnson. I just don’t believe the fighters that Demetrious faced were as much of a “murderers row“ as those who GSP faced.

T Man DJ needs to get up to the 135er’s, and needs to beat Cruz, TJ, and Cody....then we can talk about the GOAT. He faced Cruz and lost, but that was seven years ago, and I don’t see Cruz or Cody going down to face him, he needs come up. Maybe TJ would go down to face him should he lose the Cody rematch, and lose a possible #1 contender match with Cruz. I dunno. There just aren’t any studs at 125 that can move in between much, maybe Dodson, but DJ has already beaten him twice. He needs to seek out the best guys. Its about legacy, not just defending against bums.

GSP not only is one of the greatest specimens to ever step into a ring or octagon. He is one of the most humble, genuine and polite fighters you could ask for. A truly great ambasador for the sport. There are others that remind me of this. Guys lile Fedor Emelianenko, Dan Henderson, Randy Couture, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Gustafsson, Rory MacDonald, Evan Tanner. There isn't a whole lot but if you can draw comparisons between all these great fighters it is intelligence, determination, humbleness, hard work, open mindedness, cross training, travelling and switching gyms to learn more. Now alot of guys play by this book, minus the humbleness. Some guys have taken a page out of Conor and Chaels book to try and get those big money fights....but these dudes were playing this game and laying out the ground work 10-15 years ago. They are MMA trailblazers and GOATS. Much respect, especially to GSP who I think is still ahead of Khabib. Khabib, unfortunately quit too soon. He could have been the greatest ever, but he stopped.

Great vignette. I’m sure my experience is like most people’s. I dabbled in martial arts years ago, so been watching MMA from the early days. From the second I first saw GSP in the Octagon years ago, it was abundantly clear that we were looking at a rare individual. More than any fighter I’ve ever seen, he made me really pay attention. Despite all his fanfare I still think he is underrated. Georges had a knack of making some great fighters look mediocre (Koshcheck, Nick D, Shields, Conduit - off the top of my head). And even the trolls will have to concede that he fought the toughest guys in the division. So intelligent, athletic, methodical and scientific. Watching him train with his gymnastics and other oddball stuff showed a man on a mission. He would turn his weaknesses (BJJ and wrestling) into strengths through disciplined training to become elite in everything he did. And he’s a hell of a nice guy, to boot. Guy is an F-ing Samurai. Chael, love listening to your thoughts.
