KEEP THEM ! And enjoy them guilt-free, you deserve it for being an honest voice.
As a long-time viewer of your channel, I can say that your audience already knows that your reviews are unbiased. Your new viewers can also be convinced of this by watching just a couple of videos. Therefore, keeping the equipment for yourself, if you really liked it, is a great idea, you really deserve it. But I realy want to point out that we are not the ones to give you advice on this matter. This is your channel, you can do what you want on it and you should really listen to yourself, whether you are comfortable leaving the equipment after the inspection. If so - great, everything that is right for you is right for the channel. If not, you can always make, for example, a giveaway for Patreon followers. This is how you will improve your KZread job and make a nice bonus for subscribers.
Keep 'em! Engineers don't get many perks.

what are you talking about? they get to work with musicians! 😂
Keep them. Don’t do a giveaway. I don’t think any of us would describe you as biased in any situation. Giving both strengths in weaknesses in your reviews I think is all that is required for us to believe you. I feel like I could tell from your dialogue when you’re being genuine.
I think you should give them away to someone in the community or someone you know who is trying to build their studio up. Don't throw them away, that's super wasteful.

I think giving it to the community is even more of an advertisement. I'd recommend giving it away to an audio engineer he knows, an audio engineering school, a youth center or something alike.
If you’re going to use them, keep them. That’s a form of recommendation you are providing to SSL just by them appearing in your videos. Valuable to you, valuable to us viewers and valuable to SSL. Keep ‘em if you’ll use them!!
It’s OK! Keep them! You are so clean it’s possible to be, and you deserve it. Both your reputation and the SSLs. If you don’t keep them I will feel so sorry for you that I couldn’t follow your channel anymore.
Keep em man! If something sucks you'll tell us. It isn't like just because you are allowed to keep it you're going to lie and say "it's the best thing ever! Buy it now!" If it is that big of a deal to some people, just do a subscriber giveaway or something.
Keep them. Your videos are awesome and I like your reviews and takes on things. You provide an invaluable service to engineers (and hobbyists like me). So yes, keep them. 😀
As a pro session player, and studio owner myself, that is ~relatively smaller than yours, but fully functional (heaving waaaay more guitars, tube amps, pedals and other accessories instead) I understand your love my friend. You're probably among the very few, if not the only individual on KZread land who is *successfully* trying his best to stay independent. So, please by all means feel free to keep the equipment the companies send you, if you're continuously using them on a regular basis, and they sound good to your ears. Needless to say that we absolutely appreciate your honesty, independence and brutal unbiased reviews; please never change! Cheers!
I have the old SSL 611-Dyn and the comp is GREAT. Thanks for the review ¡
Keep em'...you deserve it for all you do for the community.
Keep them! I'm still a channel member after watching this video, so I definitely trust your ability to be unbiased 🙂
Keep taking the audio world forward W. True honesty, things change.
I think your closing remarks are what to go for: 1) they have already been produced and shipped to you 2) if you dispose of them or if you return them you'll be further polluting 3) you already presented an unbiased review 4) you can't know everything, to your best understanding as it stands now, this equipment fits in your chain, so keep it, but just remember to never take anything for granted and if the equipment becomes obsolete to your chain, please make a video about that (I think there's a lot more insight on removing stuff from your chain then just adding a bunch of compressors to a chain just because they sound good) I'm a strong advocate now of just keeping what I need and it's a part of the process to re-evaluate your chain as you work with new equipment. LSS: keep it and always re-evaluate your chain components. Keep what is good and what you need. Thanks for your great work, I don't usually comment on your videos, but your insight and technical knowledge is very enlightening. As a music producer amateur, I know to take all the advice with a certain scope or perspective and you've helped me develop that scope in a healthy way. Keep pushing my friend, I'll see you in the next one 😉
I used your sound to match it with my Analog Gear, SSL Nebula (Tim Ps L Bus Comp and Alex Bs Pres Colors and Saturation in SSL Mode) with Acustica Audio Sand and my Analog Gear to Match those SSL 500 series unit sound....and it worked...so letting me hear those did help...Im doing an API mastering Chain Next then Neve......
Thank you for the awesome review! I would love it to hear it compared to the SSL 4K plugin version!!!
That's awesome, I feel glad for you!
Keep it! It sounded great on that phat snare sound.
yo it sounded amazing! keep em, be happy...all love!
keep them for sure. be cool to hear a comparison with the ssl native channels strip 2 4kb should be the thing?
hi :) thanks for your videos! i am curious: if you had to choose, would you based on the sound rather take the ssl bus+ or the wes audio ngbuscomp?
Keep them. OFF topic: Thanks for including that little tiny wee clip of the plugin 4kB. What do you think, does it hold up?
They're arguably the most professionally used analog channel compressors ever! So many hit records and a classic sound! I own a pair of E-Dyn myself and would still love to own these new ones. No one who knows the importance of these modules are going to think that you're biased. Enjoy and do some scientific comparison videos!
Ohhh Yess...I think thouse are the best Comps I heard for Line Compression...from SSL in my Opinion.....
Love that you make the dry signal image grey. Life imitating… ehh. plugins 😅
Sounds awesome!!
can you use the de-essing while using the compression?
You deserve them for all the helpful advice and time you share. As you say, if it is useful, then use it. I will still hunt for a review from yourself 1st regardless. Thanks for everything
i think the most important thing about these units is they sound incredibly musical and tasteful
I say keep them bro. You've already deserved a treat through all your hard work you've delivered. Having SSL equipment in your arsenal is so normal, I personally would not perceive it as being biased. All the best :)
Hahah! That was funny. Those are SSL dynamic sections. We all are biased about those: everybody likes that compressor even if they think that they don't. I sure hope you kept them! xD
Seems like you could find a use for them; they sound sweet!
So you went for the Rupert Neve Design R10 rack frame for the 500 modules. :)
re the auto gain - they would compensate with the fader on the console. Same fo eq. That is a good discussion to have for gain staging now that we are mixing virtually in a DAW console. Hardware sounds great! Your reviews are always honest and viewers recognise that, so keep them - or donate the value to charity :)
Just keep them man! it does not matter... as you said, if you only have some limited space for gear and you find the units useful, keep using them and share during your videos, keep up with your thing
Keep them. Good for you. Keep producing great content.
Just stay honest and keep doing what you're doing, love the channel
I like to get entertained and informed by you.. don't get me wrong.. I mean this very positive.. there are so many others are terrible and it feels pure advertising. Compression is the most important engineering part in music. I visit Netherland a lot especially Venlo and "DieBrüder". It's little Mallorca but anyways. 😁

wytse makes anti-snake oil videos in a environment of too many ppl trying to mixing more complicated than it needs to be, either purposefully to sell snake oil, or unpurposefully saying stuff theyre not qualified to talk about. mixdown industrial complex
Treat your self bro ✌🏽 you work really hard and deserve them 👌🏽💯😃
Hi, new follower here, do you have a video with all the gear you have or use the most? Thanks.
What is the attack time set at for these? too bad SSL did not expand it for adjustable attack time. I have the silver face comp in a mynx module and its the same issue when going straight from converter into it. It seems to be the main complaint with these units is trying to get enough gain into the units straight from the DAW.
Keep them. Transparency is important. You appear to be a hard worker and have earned them.
I never understand why they don’t bring out the channels that have the dynamics and eq together with some more options
@danepaulstewart8464

All that won’t fit in a 500 Series module of course. as far as I know, SSL has never put it all together in a 19-inch rack housing. I don’t know why. If they did, it would probably sell A LOT. 👍
I understand your hesitation, but I would be HAPPY to know that you were able to keep something you really like and would have bought and used, had it not been free.
I definitely think you should give them to me!!😂😂
Keep them dude!
Keep em. I work in the box and own a truckload of plugins i never use. Sorry to say about my fabfilter collection but i prefer the plugin alliance brainworx material - because i got that earlier and they cater my needs. BUT: Reaper does recognize and is compatible with all these, and i might use them one day.... am i hoarding?😮

Brainworx true peak limiter is 👌🏻
One taught… I had your same t-shirt! Dunno where it goes😤!!! By the way pretty cool the desser feature👍🏼
Keep them - you have earned a lot of trust here and I think most people see that you give genuine opinions.
Keep them!! Your integrity is fully intact by doing so. The fact that you even mention that they said you can keep them is good enough for me. Your reviews are very honest and informative. Many other "KZreadr reviewers" you can tell they only say good things just so they can get "FREE" things even though the product is crap. Honesty and transparency deserves a reward.
Keep them!!! They did a good job!!! 💪🏽💪🏽
3:07 the ambience colapses with the unit on
give-aways for patrons and channel members? is that a thing?
I knew it was SSL lmao
SSL + Elysia modules...I see that you are a man of refined taste.
Gewoon houden joh, ze zijn nuttig en je hebt een eerlijke review gegeven zoals we van je gewend zijn. Ben benieuwd wat er nog bij komt aan modules in dat rack ;)
Keep them. A reward for countless honest reviews
i'm not a pro by any means or even anything under it, however i love the hearing of the sound change better than on a screen using software, i would like to get hardware like this in the future. There are plugins that sound better than this for drums though.
I have 2 open slots and I have been thinking about something SSL!
Can you send me the md midi ? If you don’t use it?
Yeah, i would swap that Art Pro VLAII-space also for that!
It's amazing that you would even ask your community/supporters to keep or discard the compressors but this only goes to show your integrity as a KZread content creator, and more importantly as a human being. You have every right to keep them and use them if you enjoy them. I personally can't speak for everyone else but I don't see receiving free equipment as being inherently biased. You are still going to say what you think and if they sucked you would have still "ran a hammer through them".
I really need those to taste what an analogue is ... never put my hands on any of those! Amazing sound
What you said makes total sense. If you don't like or need something, why would you keep it? If you like the SSL product, then keep it regardless if you paid for it or not. You've made it clear for years now that you're always truthful with your viewers about reviews....so why would we question you now? You're not selling out, if that's your concern, and you shouldn't be penalized for accepting products you actually like or use just because you have an audience. IMHO.
I miss using SSL since I stopped using waves with m1. Maybe I should save for the real thing!
Hoi Wytse, your affiliate link isn't active!
Keep them, mate. You deserve the goodies.
Keep those two beauties. And enjoy your weekend. 😃
get SSL...uuuh and keep 'em...uuuh that's a keeper
Hey, thanks a lot for your hard work and awesome videos. I can say now, that I bought several pieces of equipment (software and hardware) after watching one of your tests. And I confirm that your words are unbiased with my own tests. Keep those SSL devices. Or give them away to one of your users. DON'T destroy these pieces of art. Now about your previous video (mental health) and what you said about negative comments: just laugh at them. I'm a professional community manager and that's my trick to be able to continue my job.
Keep them man. It's cool
Keep them!!
if you like and have use for it keep your review has been honest enough in my opinion
And in the meanwhile i am busy with a monitor amp with 0.00017 THD and with a noicefloor of 140 db and you want to intoduce this old plumming. Its FX to be onest, better use the "True iron" vst or so, at least you are sure that you can hear it.
Do giveaways dude this should be a no brainer 😂
Keep them. I know your reviews are always unbiased.
KEEP THEM! I LOVE your videos, you deserve them and also, if you are still concerned about the ethics of it, take the money that they would cost and pass that onto any kind of artist who is struggling, painter, musician or producer. Peace and Love from Southampton, England.
Just keep it - and say you’re keeping it. All fine with us. 👍🏽
Is it really not bad to put oily hands all over the circuit board? Honestly wondering
@Whiteseastudio
Жыл бұрын
Probably not
Don't break them!! Keep them with peace of mind that you have honestly earned those through years of hard work. Put them in a box, and store them away. Things could change down the line and you may find yourself in need of those. Your true audience will always see you as a unbiased reviewer.
Man Keep em. If they send you something you hate in the future im sure you won't be like "I really hate this but man those compressors" lol
Dude, and what's the Budget on these badboys...
I'll have them!
Pricey af. I would love to see a Guide to get into Analog gear, for every Level of Audio-Head. Or something else :P Every video of you is a treasure! thx a lot
Keep them!!!
Keep them and let us know after few months if u still using them or not and why ;)
That's a good compressor
Keep them ... of course
In this order: 1. Keep them if you like them. You've said your piece and shown there's no bias. 2. Give them away in a competition type setting. BUT DON'T junk them!
why not modified dude?
He showcasing the B-DYN at 2:20 Me: salivating with the elysia skulpter 500 😍
Keep them!
I want one plzzz...
Keep this ones
Wytse, just the fact that you are questioning keeping it means you should, if you'll use it. Your moral compass is true north 🙂
Understandable your logic on this, so keep them! I think it’s sensible to “not” keep what takes up valuable space, hence a bonus comes occasionally and so does a waste of time turn up occasionally..Nothing at all wrong if you see potential use in them, which reinforces the fact that your review is honest that the units are of benefit to have. It would be a pity to waste them. You like them and there on offer so accept them without hesitation or guilt! 👍🏼
Keep. You have declared your soul already!
You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain
I think that being willing to get rid of the units is commendable. However, maybe a giveaway might be a better use of the units.
